Went to Tampico with my family on a Saturday afternoon after my brothers graduation. It was surprisingly quiet for the day (definitely patrons there but not packed and no wait) but we were grateful to get a quick seat! It's a cute space, the music level was right and they offered indoor and outdoor space. We got chips and salsa brought over right away - I'm not a big spice fan and had no issues with the salsa being too spicy, but it was still flavorful. We ordered strawberry margarita pitchers (a pitcher is $19.50 and a single was $7.50 - each pitcher probably had 5-6 margs worth in it, get the pitcher) that were delicious and refreshing! Not too strong but not overly sweet. I got the chicken quesadilla and would highly recommend. A good amount of chicken and the tortilla was not too greasy but well cooked and more crunchy than some quesadillas that can be soggy (still a soft shell). Everyone really enjoyed their food! For the love of all that is holy, stop torturing vegetarians with broccoli where it does not belong. That includes Mexican food. Just because we are vegetarians doesn't mean we want BROCCOLI and CARROTS on nachos and fajitas. Please, stop. I begrudgingly got the vegetarian fajitas, hoping I could pick around the stuff I didn't want (most of it), but naturally, most of it was the worst stuff. There were like three sad slices of mushroom. Their booze list is like a clown show. They serve Franzia boxed wine. None of the margaritas tell you what's actually in them, nor do they have prices. My husbands beer was warm. Guacamole and chips were fine. I mean, what do you expect from "Mexican" food in SE Ohio.. but everything else was closed, so suffer we must. This place used to be the go to for Mexican but it seems like it's been going downhill lately for every little side cup. You get charged on an additional fee and the menu prices have raised considerably with so many other Mexican restaurants in the surrounding area I'm finding it very hard to justify going back and I've been going for about 20 years. Nickel and dimming customers is not the way to go. I could understand a menu increase because everything has increased. The grilled chicken slices and rice used to be on the kids menu and now it's not and we got charged full price for those. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

Wonderful recent 4.5 star dining experience with food, service, and ambience all considered (options don't allow for 1/2 star ratings). Began eating here for lunch when working in Marietta in 1997-1999. Most always 5 stars across all categories. Have been living and working out of the Ohio Valley region until this past week, but have dropped in from time-to-time over the years when visiting family/friends. Have eaten Mexican cuisine in Europe, Asia, and the Americas allowed us to develop a broad experience in Mexican restaurant dining. Visiting Marietta and Tampico resulted in 2 to 5 star experiences intermittently 1999-2024, with my wife eventually declining further visits - but my kids and I maintaining the "El Tampico" tradition of dining. After church this past Sunday, my wife rescinded the Heisman and agreed to re-engage the El Tampico tradition since kids are now grown and away. I had my usual Enchiladas Supreme and she had Nacho's Supreme. Taste, quantity, and quality were 4 stars. My meal was warm not as hot as I'd prefer and wife had a small piece of grizzle in her meal which kept away one star. Neither spoiled the overall meal. It was a busy afternoon church crowd with a reserved event ongoing so our requested drinks did not arrive our with meals. Having water until then was fine. Pricing is not a factor we rate so, yield to commentaries from folks more attuned to this. Contrasting all pluses vs minuses, my wife conceded that she would again resume the "El Tampico" tradition. The frozen drinks are served out of a premade machine and the prices are high for not the best quality of food. Tampico found a way to bring good Mexican fare to a small river town in the midwest and make it work -- an accomplishment going way beyond just food. My lovely Signora and I took my parents here for lunch, and we felt some pressure to make the event special. My parents never eat Mexican food, or if they do, it's Americanized beyond recognition. We live in SoCal and my wife is from Mexico, so we wanted to share with them, for just a lunch moment, some of the reasons why we love Mexican food so much. We ordered 2 Molcajete for the 4 of us... a bit expensive at $17.99 each, but a single serves 2. The Molcajete is the traditional Mexican version of mortar and pestle. At Tampico, it's a heavy ceramic vessel filled with carne, chicken, shrimp, nopales, and lots of other tasty things. I also got Chiles Toreados, which are roasted jalapenos. Everything was a big hit! The service is cordial and fast, the Toreados were golden and fresh, the Molcajete was excellent, and our non-Mexican ("you mean there's food other than Italian?) guests were thrilled. I just visited Marietta for two weeks and we decided to try the Mexican food on Friday night. We sat at bar area which really made my day! I have been traveling the world and I know my drinks. The bartender, LEAH, really exceeded my expectations! I had the top shelf margarita at many places but what she made me really hit me. I also met interesting people at bar! So, if you are here, please stop by the bar and ask for Leah! We then ordered fajitas steak for two, the beef is tender and was pretty good. The service was good. Moved back to UWS recently & stopped here for an early supper. It was incredible. Seriously, I was blown away. Great place in the Marietta area for some real authentic Mexican food. The place doesn't really look like much if your passing by on the street but it is definitely worth the second look. They have some really good chicken nachos that I've gotten plenty of times before and the Taco Tuesday's is just as good. Often times I leave with leftover though as I end up filling up on the chips and salsa which are also pretty good. Have been coming to this place since I was a kid being from the area. I've seen it go through various changes and ups and downs. I will say that the food this time around was decent, but it has been better. It's a basic run of the mill cheap Mexican restaurant. Our service wasn't particularly great. Our server walked around and chatted with coworkers or stood over by the bar, while not checking to see if we needed anything. There was only 4 tables in the entire restaurant at the time, so it's not like it was busy. Came back this past weekend to check out Tampico - new menu but still good! There was a note that some of the prices had been increased because the last hike was 5 years ago - seems fair to me. And the prices were still good for the quantity received. We had a few new items from the menu as well as the old veggie fajita favorite. Can't beat the $14 margarita pitcher - yum!!! Nachos were still good (had to be re-fired as we ordered beef but received chicken), and my kids loved their cheese quesadilla. The waitress tried hard but was a little disheveled. Average, I've eaten here on several occasions. It's decent enough. Service can be hit or miss, lots of turnover in staff. More of a dinner place as the lunch menu is rather small. I've tried there fish tacos and was somewhat disappointed. They use Talipia which is an inexpensive fish and the portions were on the small side. They were not satisfying. Tampico's has been my favorite restaurant since I was in high school. They have a great menu but my personal favorite has always been chicken nachos! They also have the best Pepsi I've ever had. They have plenty of seating and very nice staff. Your food gets made in record time and if you're there you should definitely try the fried ice cream after dinner. read more

Gary and I have enjoyed our weekly dates at Tampico for almost 10 years. Even during Covid19 we did curbside. Over the years we felt like family. The servers continue to be delightful. The cooks awesome. However top brand Tequilas, which by the way you make a large profit on when sold by the shot, and even ingredients for meals on the menu are not being ordered by an "anonymous" invisible manager who is in charge of ordering. We have asked the servers for months with no change in the promised inventory availability. Not fair to the awesome servers. I posted messages on the website only to have them be seen but deleted with no response. We loved Tampico. We want you to stay in business. Without being able to depend on the availability of the meals we love, Tampico just isn't the same. Please have someone show up to manage your inventory. You can once again be the best in Marietta. Thank you fellow yelpers for navigating us to this gem! After a few long days of travel and shopping, I had a craving for someplace that had options for great food and an adult beverage or two. Tampico hit the spot in both requirements. We were seated immediately and greeted by our charming waitress who got the feeling we were looking to unwind. She suggested the famous margaritas and there was no disagreement. The frozen strawberry margs were delicious and not overpowering. We had their combination fajitas.. A double order was a bit large for two people, I'd recommend a single order if you've got a smaller appetite. The meals at the tables around us looked fantastic as well, I don't think you can go wrong here. Our service was excellent - the waitstaff was attentive and there was never a point in time where we were left needing anything. Prior to leaving, it looked like they are one of the few restaurants offering up moments of embarrassment for those celebrating a birthday. It may have included a rather large sombrero.. Oh, and desserts. Delicious looking desserts! I hope this restaurant is here next time I need to come to town.
