I explained this to her, but Angelina started cleaning my teeth anyway and spraying water all over my face. At one point, she threw a napkin at me and said she didn't have time to be tidy because I was so late. She was being so aggressive and scary (giving Steve Martin in Little shop of Horrors vibes) that I finally decided it was time to leave. I asked her to stop and she said, "ok, bye, sir" (wtf - I'm a woman and not particularly masculine). It took me a year to decide to give them another chance. This time, a few weeks ago, I got a hygienist named Karen (of course). While she was poking around in my mouth, I winced slightly when she poked the gums behind my two front teeth. She asked if I was ok. I told her I was fine, but that I felt the sharp tool on my gums. Instead of saying, "oops, sorry!" or something innocuous, she instantly got defensive, saying she didn't touch my gums. Not the response you want from the person holding the sharp tools! She asked if I wanted her to numb my gums and I said, "no thanks". Instead of just continuing on with her work, she said, "Um, ok, because you seem a little ...". She didn't finish the sentence, but it was just odd - she was either projecting or trying to provoke a response. As she continued to be rude, I decided it wasn't worth my time to have someone who hates their job taking out their frustrations on my teeth and gums. I got up and left before it could get worse. I had a great dentist in the town where I used to live and there are many other dental practices in the same building as Evosmile. On my way out, I made an appointment with one of them.

Dr O'Connor lost patience and started really yanking, pulling and cranking on my teeth. Afterwards, for months, my mouth hurt, my jaw was clamping down and I was grinding my teeth at night. With gentle treatment for TMJD it finally resolved. When I went back to get my teeth cleaned several months later, it was still hurting. The hygienist suggested talking to the dentist about it. When I did, Dr O'Connor kicked me out of the practice (via email from her office manager) and kicked out my teenager from the practice before even meeting them. They also use those "aromatherapy" diffusers so if you are allergic to fragrances you should go somewhere else.

He does a procedure many other periodontists steer clear of, (saying it's not possible) called the 'pinhole procedure,' which, instead of flapping the gums back, you make a small tunnel underneath the gum line of the teeth you are grafting, and feed the palatal gum through. It's relatively non-invasive, and the results are spectacular! One day out, I have big fat, beautiful gums, which I know will remodel in the next six months, but I couldn't be happier.
