I would have given more stars, because this location is pretty big, has a decent selection... but the staff is what killed my review. Not greeted by a single staff member (there were maybe four associates working, all females). No one offered to help us at all. The only time they spoke to us was to harass about a mask that wasn't completely over the nose. There are about a thousand signs through out the store regarding something related to Covid. The main associate was busy on her phone for the pretty much the duration of our visit. I did see one other customer in the store while we were there and she was able to get an associate to come and help her. I attended a workshop and it was such a great experience. Shelby was the absolute best at teaching and having patience with beginners. Shelby gave great tips and constant feedback. The store is large and has a great selection. It's unfortunate that things were a little scattered because they are rearranging displays but I'm sure it won't be long before everything is reorganized making it a little easier to shop. These people know their stuff ! I recently developed an interest in leather crafting , and decided to check out Tandy. Besides having a mild desire to make a small leather bracelet, I walked into the store knowing nothing at all. After treking around the store for a few minutes, I walked up to the ladies at the register and showed them a photo of the bracelet I wanted to make. They were so very helpful! Renee was the one who helped me pick out then right size snaps for my bracelet , and also gave me pointers and tips on how they go together and showed me all the tools I would need to put the project in motion. She also gave me some useful information about general leather crafting and told me about the monthly classes they hold in the store and even helped me sign up for an up coming beginners tooling class. Then day before the class , I received a reminder call for our first FREE tooling class. We showed up to find that Renee was instructing the three hour class. They had everything we needed set up before hand, including the leather pieces , mallet, tracing paper, and stains. Only requirement is that they ask you to bring your own tooling instruments . We were not aware of that , however they did let us borrow some from their inventory. They were very organized, and even had printed handouts with instructions for us. Renee is a very knowledgeable and patient instructor. She had plenty of tips and tricks to share with us. With our first leather craft class under our belt, I can now speak a bit of leather lingo, identity key instruments for tooling, and understand the basic concepts of leather tooling. I did not expect to to enjoy the class as much as I did ! The people at Tandy are so generous with their time and desire to share their knowledge .i still can't believe the class was FREE. They have other classes as well, some are at a minimum cost to the students . Well worth the cost I'm sure ! I'm excited and looking forward to being part of another leather crafting class soon. If I could give zero stars I would. My first time coming to this store was a decent experience. I found it odd they had "fetish" dog masks on display in the front but the lady working there was nice and helpful. So this past weekend I send my boyfriend there (who was with me on the first visit) to grab a bottle of edge kote for me. This man rode for over 40 minutes to get to the store and upon entering was treated rudely. They didn't let him use the bathroom, they all gave him attitude, and didn't even have what we needed. They also had someone HACKING UP A LUNG while not covering their mouth, or wearing a mask but still have covid signs up? I'd rather drive to Fremont where we are treated with respect and not subjected to peoples sexual preferences upon walking in the building. Just don't go here folks. Not only is it a big store but they only have everything you don't actually need! read more

I went here looking for some specific products. They didn't have them as the specific dyes I was seeking contained some substance that is prohibited in California. They made some great suggestions for products that would fit what I needed that also conformed to state restrictions. And they didn't even sell those items so I really appreciate the expertise and honesty. I went ahead and bought a couple bottles of leather conditioner since they were so welcoming and helpful. I phoned the store and described to the woman who I spoke with what I needed. I needed snaps with a 5/8" diameter cap that would go through leather 1/16" - 1/8" thick. Snap color should be gloss or flat black. She told me no problem, we have those in flat black at the store. I drove from my home the next day, approximately an 80 mile round trip. The store in fact did not have what I very specifically asked for on the phone. What they had was a 1/2" diameter, color was gun metal. Not even close. A waste of time and gas. Person I spoke with on phone is not qualified to answer phone with anything beyond "Hello, Tandy Leather ". read more

Their staff is knowledgeable and patient for all the questions that working with leather brings! If they don't know the answer, they find it for you! I have been to Tandy Leather Company Stores all over the Us, this one is a good one but not the best. the Scrap Selection I thought was weak,not a lot of decent pieces and I felt priced kind of high for hole filed scraps. I also found it hard to shop because the signage for what was what was hard to find let alone read. We had to ask a lot of questions about different things and felt like the employee thought we were bothering her. they have a good selection of leather working tools and findings....We did make a purchase but I will more than likely look elsewhere for our next purchase. read more

This Sacramento-area Tandy store (Carmichael, actually) is fantastic. First, the sales people are not only very, very pleasant, they're funny, they're enjoying themselves, and they're really knowledgeable. The store stocks everything for the leather crafting enthusiast, from the leather itself to the stamps, needles, patterns, books, etc. I've seen people in there who make saddles, purses, mocassins, whips, and so on. Also, they have an instructor who will teach you to do lots of leathermaking things, and he really does good work, and he's nice--no pressure on us students. These folks are fun and smart and kind. Tandy is a great place to go and look for things you can't find else where in town. I started doing handmade book making and I found things which will make great additions to what I am working on. The staff is great. I really appreciate Randy and his willingness to answer questions. It's not the cheapest store around, but it's a trade off to be able to handle products to see exactly what you are getting. You also get attentive staff who will help you find a solution to your problems and get you headed in the right direction. So really you're not paying more considering what their advise saves you time wise in how helpful it is. I was looking for a hair-on cowhide rug, it was suggested it check out Tandy. Their online the prices were much more than I wanted to pay but I was told specifically to go to the store, I was in the area so I checked it out. So glad I did! The rugs are hanging up, very easy to flip through and pick what you like. The associate was helpful at pulling down the ones I wanted to look at. The in store price was much better - comparable to discount sellers online. Plus I got to look at and feel the exact rug I was getting beforehand! The quality is great.
