I sent pictures of my wedding dress to get an estimate of how much my alterations would be. The staff was very responsive and friendly. I made my first appointment over the phone which was super easy. My first fitting was great, Tang really listened and understood what I was looking for and made me feel so special! When I left my first appointment, I scheduled my second fitting. At my second fitting, Tang had mostly everything altered except a few pieces and waited until I confirmed the fit before finalizing it. She had it done within 30 minutes and it was flawless! When my usual tailor was unavailable to alter my wedding dress, I turned to Yelp for recommendations, found Tang's, and I'm so glad I did! It was super easy to book an appointment that worked with my schedule, and they send text reminders of appointments. My dress needed to be taken in in the sides, hemmed, and bustled. I was worried about how the bustle would look, based on all the photos I've seen on Pinterest etc., but I shouldn't have worried. Xaio-Yin did an incredible job! Mrs. Tang is wonderful, I have brought several bits of clothing to be hemmed up for me, including long sleeve shirts (I hate long sleeves, and will only wear short sleeve- even during the winter). The little shop is decorated with lots of hilarious signs that'll make you LOL and then when you meet HER, she is even more humorous! She showed my friend how to tie up the corset and advised on proper undergarments etc. Since I was traveling a longer distance with my dress she advised against pressing the garment at her shop and suggested instead to find someone closer to the venue to reduce the possibility of wrinkles and keep the dress looking fresh. I had a dress that needed a lot of changes from shoulders, bodice, and dress length. Currently waiting for the changes to happen so this review will be updated. The number of 5 star reviews for Tangs really speaks for itself. I got my wedding dress and elopement dress altered here (bc its 2020). I thought my wedding dress fit pretty well, so I was expecting no more than a length adjustment, but Tang went to work putting pins all over the place and making subtle adjustments to the overall fit. When she was done my dress fit like a glove! I have no idea how she was able to make it so perfect. Fast forward another month and we decided to push our wedding back, but still decided to have an elopement with family. I quickly bought a little sundress online to wear, which wasn't exactly my style but I figured it would do well enough. After trying it on several days in a row I decided it just wasn't me, but I was running out of time, so I quickly dropped by Tangs to see what could be done. A couple of minor alterations and it was like a different dress! I'm thrilled I was able to get it fixed so quickly and was very happy with how it turned out. I was also very surprised at how affordable Tangs prices are for their services. I haven't shopped around, so I don't know what the industry is like, but I felt like the quality I got was well worth every penny. Tang's Alterations was one of the best out of all the vendors I picked for my wedding. *Absolutely* recommend her if you're looking to tailor your wedding dress! Of note: - Very personable; you can tell she actually cares about making her customers look good on their wedding day, and is willing to go the extra mile to make that happen. This put me at ease and gave me confidence that everything would turn out well (which it did!) - For example, I'm completely clueless when it comes to how a dress should be tailored; I wasn't aware that part of my dress was bunching because it was too tight around my legs, and thought that's just the way it was. She didn't notice it at first (I didn't think to say anything, thinking that maybe it just fit tight), and had almost finished all the alterations when I went back to try it o Rather than charging me extra to make that alteration, she voluntarily did that particular change free of charge, with the reasoning that she should have noticed it from the beginning. If you're looking for a place to do alterations for your wedding dress, look no further! I am so happy I found Tang's off other yelp reviews. I bought my wedding gown at a bridal boutique in Old Town, Alexandria and had I gotten alterations there, they would have been at least twice as much if not more. When I called Tang's to set up an appointment, a very nice older gentlemen, Kenny answers the phone and is very pleasant. Once you schedule an appointment, they send you reminder texts to confirm your appointment or otherwise cancel. When I had my first appointment with Tang, she made her honest recommendations and suggestions and didn't seem pushy at all. It was my decision alone to make. She had to take out the top of my dress, which happens to be all lace and then I had to come back for a second fitting to see how much to shorten the length. Each time, Tang was awesome. For my final fitting, Tang took a video of how to do my bustle, and was very thorough with easy to follow that my sister and another BM had no problem following. It was perfect and Tang is really the best. She was even sweet enough to grab me a breakfast pastry on my way out even though I told her she didn't have to. She insisted. Talk about customer service!! My dress was done six weeks prior to my wedding and I looked perfect on my wedding day. I brought my dress back a few weeks later after the wedding to have my gown cleaned and she remembered me and met my husband. She shared in our excitement and congratulated us. Getting your wedding dress is a special, magical moment that I did not get the first 3 times I went looking. I wound up at Tangs on a friends referral with 3 on sale/off the rack dresses that were nothing special. I initially brought them in to see if there was any way she could alter one or all of them (as her alterations are LEGENDARY). Throughout the process of showing her each dress and my ideas for each she was honest, realistic, and money conscious!! It would have been so easy for any tailor to recommend all three dresses be altered because, of course, that would mean a higher bill. Ms. Tang sat me down and said we would make a plan for one dress, knowing how expensive weddings are and wanting to put my mind and wallet at ease. Unfortunately, my mom and I were there for quite a while because I kept flip flopping between ideas and overall just felt discouraged. This appointment took way longer than expected but we never felt rushed or like a bother. When we started to go in to the next appointment slot Ms. Tang and Kenny (also fantastic) offered to find another time slot for us in the same day so, in Tangs words, we could come back and "have a definite plan for our bride". Just the fact that she was so invested in me from the get go was reassuring. We came back a few hours later and unfortunately time didn't change much - all three dresses were still blah and underwhelming. She recommended I put on some of her Maggie Sottero designs to get ideas on how to alter the dress I already had. I stepped in to one and came out and immediately had that magical moment - mom did too! Everything about the dress was absolutely perfect. Instead of altering one of my dresses to look like it, she offered to let us buy the dress right there (since the wedding was only 2 months away and an order would take longer than that). She was so determined to help me feel beautiful that she let me take a dress that hadn't even been on the floor for a week! And alterations? FAST. Like, crazy fast! Seriously the BEST seamstress in the ENTIRE Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland area. The storefront is meticulously clean, the staff are all VERY welcoming and accommodating. They knew exactly how to properly reconstruct brides maids dresses for my daughters with a good eye for high fashion with old world talent. I would not even chance going anywhere else for tailoring. Some people have left comments saying they felt that prices were too high, but this is one of those places that you truly get what you pay for. If you want cheap prices then you will get cheap work. I brought my dress to Tang's in June for my August 2020 wedding. Tang was amazing to work with. I bought my dress out of state and had a hard time finding a place that would take dresses that were not purchased in their own shop. I searched so many reviews and by far the best was Tang's. I live much closer to DC, so Tang's was a bit of a drive for me but so so so so worth it. I'm very petite and needed a substantial amount taken from the shoulders and hem of my dress. The top/bust was huge on me. Within minutes, my dress was pinned to fit perfectly. Three week later I went to pick it up and it was flawless! Amazing quality.
