I had an abnormal exam result and had to schedule an appointment for a procedure to determine if I have any precancerous or cancerous cells. When the doctor called me for this, she tried twice to transfer me to the desk and no one answered for 20 minutes. I just hung up. Then she called me back and tried again. No answer. She called me again and told me that someone would call me, and then I had to go to class so I forgot about it. I happened to have an appointment for something else a week or two later in between and she was shocked when I told her that I was never contacted to make that appointment, so I made it while checking out. So I did that, and went to the appointment, only to have a receptionist chuckle because she said I'd just had the same exam last month. As if I could forget that that quick. Then a different receptionist called me up and told me that they had put in the wrong insurance codes when they made this appointment, and so they couldn't see me for it, and they didn't have the equipment or time to do the procedure so we'd have to reschedule for 2 weeks. To check if I have cancer or precancerous cells. Which I might. We're going on 2 months ago in discovering this possibility. AND she discussed the procedure by name at the window, with other patients in line right behind me When I called my sister for an earlier ride than expected (my car is in the shop so I had to get dropped off) and told her they had to reschedule because it was scheduled wrong, this receptionist slammed the glass door closed (I was being completely calm). This in addition to them always trying to schedule me on a Tuesday or Thursday, seconds after I tell them that those days aren't good for me, and a 5 day stint of them giving me the runaround to get an important prescription refilled. Like I said, the doctor is amazing. Her receptionists are absolute garbage.

Most all of the employees who work here have been with Covenant since I can remember, which to means a great deal about the work environment. I saw a fellow Yelper's one-star review of this place and how she called them 'less than Christian', and made claims that they do not pay their bills. Huh? Every single morning, before they begin their day, the entire staff joins in a prayer circle to give thanks and prayers for the day ahead. I have witnessed this and was very impressed. Additionally, although it does not happen every single time I visit, I am often asked if I would like them to pray with or for me, about any concerns I'm having in my life. I'm a not a religious person, (I do not adhere to one faith) but I am very spiritual, and have accepted their offer on a number of occasions. At no time did any staff member proselytize, or make me feel uncomfortable about our differences in our spiritual beliefs, so I'm not sure what would look more Christ-like than that - accepting others as they are. Dr Abbo always spends an entire hour with me. The entire hour. Not 5 or 10 minutes. An entire hour.

As such, it requires me to seek some medical attention. Heard about this clinic in Royal Oak and called to get info and possibly make an appointment. The receptionist I spoke with was nice. She informed me that the cost is generally $20-$50 based on your income and family size. That fee would include the office visit and basic labs (urine/bloodwork). I actually worked many years for a community health center down in FL that operates in a similar manner (except in-house labwork there was not normally included in the office visit fee). CCHC also works in conjunction with the Beaumont Health System and if you require, say, something like x-rays, they would refer you there to have them and other discounts may apply depending on the service. For the theoretical x-rays, it would be around a 40% discount. I sort of got set up for an appointment. More so, got put on a waiting list. If someone cancels and a spot opens up, they give me a shout. Apparently this can take 7-10 days or I was advised to call first thing the next morning to check in on any possible/more ASAP openings. Oh well, it's better than nothing or third world country care (i.e., I am grateful this option is available to me and the general public, thus the 3 stars). All my demographic info was taken over the phone and I was advised to bring in a photo ID and proof of income on the day of the appointment. The sliding fee scale is established at that time. CCHC has 3 other locations in the Detroit area (W. Grand Blvd., Michigan Ave., and on Waterman). The Michigan Ave. location offers dental services. Evening hours are also available depending on the location. I will update the review once/if I secure a visit.

The nursing staff in pre-op made me feel very at ease. This might not be noticed by all but to be given quality gown that wasn't threadbare or with knotted ties and very comfortable socks was great. Each person I was going to come in contact with in the operating room came in to introduce themselves, explain what their job was and answer any questions was important. The post-op care was great, too. The fact that they phoned to see how I was doing afterwards and answer any questions showed their professionalism. I highly recommend this facility and staff.

By failing to provide the billing companies for the various entities involved my CURRENT insurance information - as opposed to what they had on file for me from years before - they have cost me time and trouble. I've just received the latest round of bills noting that I had no insurance coverage on the date of service, which is not true. Now I'm in for MORE PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS, in an attempt to straighten it out. Why bother asking for my insurance card and check-in if you're not going to actually do anything with it? AVOID this place - unless you want the kind of headaches I'm going through.

I had been diagnosed with 3 life-altering chronic health problems about a decade ago, and Dr T was a major supporter in helping me to now be about 90% symptom free and actually heal and bring my body to balance and optimum health. Even though he is in a hospital-affiliated group practice, he really spends time with his patients and gets to know them on a personal level. I found him when he was honored with being titled one of Hour Detroit's top doctors. He has also referred me to a number of really great specialists in the area whom he knew and worked with personally. I have seen him at both locations and would travel anywhere he was located for an appointment.

I've found them to be arrogant, to make me feel judged, and some have just not known what they were doing. Because of this, I have avoided going to doctors for years, going only to urgent care when absolutely necessary. But, I needed a prescription refill and there was not another way for me to get it, other than to go to a regular medical doctor. Dr. Lerner is the doctor my sister and nephew go to, and I've always preferred going to "known" entities. So, I sucked up my courage and made an appointment. The first thing I liked it is that she is a D.O. To me, that means that she cares about the "whole" person and not just specialization. The second thing is that hers is a family practice; I rather loved that the first thing I saw when I walked into her office was a teddy bear. I've always felt I'd do better if, even at my age, I could go to a pediatrician because they understand the fear and apprehension. I also liked that, with the sole exception of Dr. Lerner, nobody wore a white coat. And, the office did not have that antiseptic smell that so many offices have. Contrary to what others here have said, I did not find her staff to be difficult. Everyone was very friendly, quick to make a joke and (try to) put me at ease. Dr. Lerner herself is very personable. She has a wonderful manner and put me at as much ease as I could be in that situation. I noticed and liked that, contrary to most doctors, she did not stand over me while talking, but rather, took a chair that was actually lower than where I was sitting. For those who know about psychology, that speaks VOLUMES about how she views her patients. After my initial appointment a month ago, I had to go back for a consultation. Except for being weighed (which I HATE!), it was *almost* a pleasant experience; while explaining what the situation was, Dr. Lerner was very conversational. She smiled, seemed to be of good humor and was genuinely interested. I left the office thinking that she's actually very sweet, and that if she weren't my doctor and we'd met in a different place, we could be friends.
