Everything on the menu is meant to be family style so we ordered a few things to try: - ceviche Classico (4.5/5 especially with the yucca chips) - causa garden (4/5) didn't know what to expect, it was good but maybe just not a fan of cold potato dishes is what I've realized. Everytime I see octopus on the menu I am heavily inclined to order it- so I did!! The octopus was fantastic and it was accompanied with some potatoes which were perfectly cooked. I also ordered a chicken empanada. Both of these are more like appetizers but I wasnt feeling like having a full on entree. I ordered on the first floor and they told me to pay on the second floor and to get my food there. Then when I went upstairs they told me it was downstairs. I went back downstairs and they told me I needed to pay upstairs. So I went back upstairs to be greeted by a host that didn't even say sorry for the trouble he had put me through already. I paid and if I was to use contactless, they told me I needed to go downstairs for that. I decided to pay with chip reader because I was done going up and down and up and down just for this meal. All I can say is WOW!! This was probably our best meal while in downtown Chicago! First of all, the atmosphere is picture perfect. We sat up on the roof/patio area. We were a little worried it was going to be too cold but they enclosed the rooftop and had lots of heaters so we were perfectly warm! We started with two cocktails. I don't remember the names but they were delicious. For food, we got the classic ceviche, the corn on the cob, and the steak skewers. The skewers were the highlight. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the chicken empanadas and the salmon skewers. Both excellent! I would highly recommend this place to anyone staying in the area. We had a really wonderful server here that did everything she could to make our evening special. The atmosphere is great, just be aware that the rooftop seating is limited, many of the tables are not out in the open air. They shine with their seafood offerings and you should lean that way when ordering your meal. Seriously, if you are looking for something outside of the ordinary and want to truly excite your tastebuds, look no further! Tanta has you covered. Prepare to be fully impressed. Although not by any means a cheap meal, you will still feel you got your dollars worth:) Also the waitstaff is very knowledgeable about the ingredients, is incredibly friendly, and prompt with service. Truly the trifecta of what any true foodie wants in a restaurant. Ask for Tanya - she is amazing. Yelp tip: the main dinning room is always bustling and decorated with colorful eclectic art. However IF the weather is nice (that's fairly subjective in Chicago) do go have a drink up on their rooftop which almost feels magical because it's so unexpected and has great energy to it. As for food everything tastes so amazingly fresh!! You MUST at least try the empanadas ($6) to start, and if you enjoy ceviche you'd be cheating yourself if you didn't share an order... heck, get the trio! Know they are on the smaller portion size but actually just perfect to get your belly ready for the mains!!! Amongst my personal favorite is the 'Chaufa Auerperto' pork fried rice ($19) - just do it! Finally got to try Tanta! It was shockingly easy to get reservations for brunch on Saturday (made a 1pm reservation at 12 the same day?!) Food - Classic ceviche with house taro chips as a side order was a great appetizer and I loved the sweet potato in the ceviche! For main dishes we got the chaufa aeropuerto and the choloquiles from the brunch menu. Chaufa aeropuerto is like a Chinese Peruvian fusion fried rice with a shrimp omelette on top. Very rich and indulgent! The mushrooms were my favorite part. Choloquiles were crispy savory fatty acidic deliciousness. Would pass on the potatoes next time - they weren't as crispy/flavorful as I would have liked Portions are Large and we still had leftovers after being stuffed from the initial meal! Came here for a work event the other day. Had a fixed menu with a good variety of options. Wasn't able to get a picture of the Pisco sour, but it was delicious and highly recommend! We had a number of things on our menu which I have provided pictures of. Most things were very good. I really enjoyed the beef empanadas, the pollo anticucho and the pork and rice/egg dish. The Jalea tanta was good and the fish was very crispy. The dishes were very flavorful. Service was relatively fast. Has a good ambiance, seems like a younger crowd. Tldr: Tanta is a new favorite restaurant of mine for their high quality seafood, bursting flavors, and perfectly balanced take on fusion food. You must try this place out if you have a special appreciation for food! What we ordered: Chucuito (tuna sashimi) - [5/5] we took one bite and were blown away. As someone very particular about sushi fish, the meat itself were fresh and tasty cuts, unlike most sushi in the Midwest. But the sauce and its complex, changing flavors really made this dish. Classic Ceviche - [3/5] don't get me wrong--the quality was great and it was a perfectly good ceviche, I just wouldn't order it again since it wasn't as unique, and I've had better ceviche. Tamal Empanadas - [3/5] again, I'm glad I tried these, but out of all the dishes this wouldn't be the first I'd recommend to a friend. Would opt for a meat one next time. Chaufa Aeropuerto - [5/5] the fried rice comes sizzling hot with a fried egg on top that is then mixed in table side. Phenomenal flavors and a delicious execution of fried rice! Their char siu pork was *chefs kiss* Service was quick, simple, and not overbearing--the way I prefer. Overall: Incredible dishes highlight a great experience, which was marred only by slighted service and a high bill. The good: All of the food was delicious, with some standing above others. The ceviche tasted just like it was from Chile, fresh and not too overwhelming, which highlighted the various fish and flavors. The cheesy and creamy scallops were unique and rich, and the salmon tanta was paired with incredible curry that was seemingly straight out of India. The highlight of the meal was the braised lamb, which fell off the bone and was surrounded by a buttery polenta that I'm still dreaming about. The 3 desserts we tried were also delicious, with the key lime pie taking the cake (pun intended) The not-so-good: While everything was delicious, the prices are rather expensive, especially since this isn't a 5-star kind of place. With only 1 drink and the shared plates, it was $65 for me alone. Not a dealbreaker, but closer to $50 would've been more realistic. Finally made it here for dinner and got a spot on the rooftop which is a nice sit out but definitely smaller than I expected. TIP - We showed up around 5:20ish and they open at 5 and the rooftop was already pretty crowded so if you want a spot here come early! Also, happy hour only applies to the bar in the downstairs part of the restaurant I started with a Tanta Paloma drink which was alright - nothing great. However, el chingon which was definitely tastier. As for the food, we started with the Cebiche tasting - all 3 were good but personal favs had to have been the criollo and nikei- flavors were just too good. So if you're into cebiche definitely do the tasting bc you get to try all 3. We then received our lomito which was a disappointment. 2 skewers with overcooked tenderloin?! And for $17 I would definitely not order this again. Moving on to our entree, we ordered the Plancha Marina which was delicious - nice selection of seafood which included jumbo shrimp, octopus, calamari and some fish with veggies and potatoes on a skillet. The marinade that they cook all of this in is very tasty and not spicy at all. We ended with the chocolate mousse which was very odd bc of the crunchy grains on top? Sorry but if I'm indulging in dessert, I don't want it to be healthy! So that was not something I'd order again. As for my overall feelings of this place - yes, the food was tasty and the service was great but for those prices, and their portions, this is definitely a one time visit for me. We went to an event on the rooftop at Tanta. They have an awesome space. There is a bar area with a roof and and open air tables with fun lights strung above. The servers were great: the drinks and appetizers were flowing. We had the fried rice - pineapple and shrimp, really good. We also had empanadas. Those were my favorite. The outside was crisp and flakey and the inside was warm and delicious. We also had some ceviche, which was flavorful. I'm not a huge fan of ceviche and don't normally order it, so I was pleasantly surprised. I would definitely go back to try more of the menu. read more

Definitely enjoyed this beautiful rooftop and luckily enough came during happy hour which is from 4-6pm! I was celebrate my friend's birthday and we got a nice table for two. They have umbrellas however fairly limited and thankfully we were in a shaded area. The server was awesome and super prompt throughout. We ordered the sakura drink and it was sweet and tasty! We also ordered every item on their happy hour menu since it was small dishes for only $5-10, which was a steal. We were able to get seated right away, but I would recommend making a reservation just in case because the place was VERY busy. If I hadn't been to Cabra, I'd give this place 4 stars, but knowing that there is a better option in the city on both the food and ambiance front, I went with 3 stars. Pros: The outdoor patio is very nice, but it was loud and pretty tightly crammed by the bar. Scallop nigiri -- best bite of the night. Chicken empanada -- second best bite of the night. They got me another drink, which was appreciated. The wagyu nigiri I was really looking forward to, but it tasted like meat and rice, with the meat having little flavor. The wagyu nigiri, salmon maki, house chips and steak saltado (all the other dishes we ordered) were average. Not bad, but nothing I'd rush to order again. The steak saltado at Cabra is by far better.
