No one looks out for a parent the way their family does, and the fact that these incidents occurred with me present speaks volumes. ​Lack of Basic Patient Safety: The nurses on this floor operated without common sense or proper safety protocols. They expected an 88-year-old woman with severe balance issues to get up and walk around unsupported, completely disregarding basic safety and patient dignity. ​Inappropriate Treatment During Procedures: While I briefly stepped away, my mother was treated poorly during a blood draw, experiencing repeated punctures and ignored pain. Fortunately, a visitor in the room intervened and instructed staff to stop. The staff's reaction was unprofessional. When I returned, it was clear that this type of treatment would not be tolerated. ​Inefficient Discharge and Insurance Procedures: Upon discharge, a nurse named Madina attempted to delay her release for another 24 hours due to uncompleted discharge paperwork. The priority seemed focused on administrative delays rather than patient health, and proper action was only taken after I threatened to contact Patient Relations. ​Lack of Standard Discharge Protocols: In comparison to other major hospitals where discharge includes a proper handoff, safe removal of IVs, and a wheelchair for a dignified exit, our experience here lacked basic class and training. I had to physically demand a wheelchair to ensure she could leave safely. ​Poor Facility Conditions: The physical condition of the floor matches the poor standards of the staff. There was visible filth, garbage overflowing from bags into the open, and neglected bathrooms that appeared not to have been cleaned properly in a long time. ​Bright Spots: Despite these severe issues, I want to highlight a few individuals who stood out: Nurse Justin showed genuine compassion and is a credit to the field. Arena, Sonia, and Nelly were also decent. However, other staff members were unprofessional, and I intend to follow up with Patient Relations regarding their names. ​Conclusion: Maimonides management currently lacks adequate control and standards on this floor. To resolve poor communication and coordination, leadership must hold mandatory team meetings to set clear expectations, define roles, and establish daily check-ins. I do not want any other family to go through this experience. Until leadership cleans up this floor and holds staff accountable, I would advise others to keep their family members away from the 10th Avenue 5th-floor facility.

Everything was explained thoroughly in regards to the plan for my colonoscopy. There were many guidelines that he went over, along with an appointed nurse that provided me with a full informational packet regarding the pre-procedure prep I needed to follow. COVID PCR testing is still required three days before the procedure as well as a Rapid Test the day before. Keep that in mind when booking your appointment. The whole process of booking my first consult to the quick scheduling of my procedure, I felt that they wasted no time and that was very appreciated on my part.
