Stopped on by as we passed through town. Neat interior and decor, giving it a very historic/rustic feel of a downtown area with exposed wood and brick. Food was actually really good!!! Everything was cooked perfectly and was better than what I had expected. The service was alright. We went in mid-day and there were 4 people behind the bar. 1 person (our server) seemed to be the only one running around to all the tables, and pouring all the beers. We had asked for our bill and waited an additional 20 mins as our server seemed to be behind the pouring of beer... yet the other stood around and conversed. That was the only area of improvement. Servers are pleasant but they could use another body or two today. It's a lot of windows inside and just one small television, so this isn't really a place if you and your bros wanna catch the game. The beer I had is your normal brewery lager, nothing bad, nothing great just good. I had the Cubano, it was very good, maybe could have used a little more mustard. Bratwurst is from Kramarczuks in Minneapolis- amazing. The grilled onion and homemade bun. Yes. Husband had the $14 special-beer, burger and fries. He liked it. The bun also very good. Really good food, not what you expect, atypical selections. They have Korean fries, and some Korean themed sauces, very eclectic. I would recommend and return to this place with my family. I Seemed like one server for the whole restaurant, but she did really well in being attentive. Food was delivered at a reasonable time. Beer isn't exceptional but we only tried two of a lot. My family and I had lunch here on a day trip to the area and we had heard this was a good spot. The food was the highlight as I found the beer to be pretty basic ( after a flight of their ipas and one sour). We had the Korean Fries and Hot Chicken sandwich. They were both great. If it hadn't of been so hot the patio would have been a great place to sit. I would love to visit again in the fall. read more

Loved the ambiance upon walking into this place and had high hopes of a good overall experience. We came for a late lunch around 3 pm. Checked in on Yelp and got a free appetizer offer and so we were excited. Beer list looked great but both of us thought it was too early to drink and so just had water. Server was very friendly. Then we see that the appetizer we got offered on check in through Yelp was no longer on the menu and so no free app. Bummer. Fiancée ordered the hot chicken sandwich and I got the pulled pork sandwich. Both felt a bit pricey at almost $20. Food took a long time to come as the place filled up even though staffing seemed good. When it came I thought the chicken sandwich was solid. We finished that one together. Pulled pork was average. Too soggy and not much flavor. Definitely avoid it. Will come back but just for dinner and beers. Would give the burgers a try too as I see them on other tables and they seemed good. read more

This is a small and lovely place, with historical touches. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which we appreciated because it was a gorgeous fall day, and the large group of kids inside was crazy loud! I had their oktoberfest beer which was good. After chatting up the Chapel brewer in nearby Dundas, with recommendations in hand I stopped in. I had perfect timing....to snag the last parking spot in their little parking lot. I was unaware how popular their brunch offerings were. Noted for a future stop. I had a glass of the Tmave, Dark Czech Lager and a pour of the Hit The Brix, Belgian Golden Strong. We checked this place out after kayaking on the Cannon River- what a find! This is a brewery with an awesome restaurant. Ambience is open spaced and airy with a great vibe. Family friendly and spots to sit outside too. (It was in the 90s so we opted for inside.) They do pizzas on Wednesday so we got a pizza. All the choices sounded good and the regular menu was extensive with lots of vegetarian options. Our pizza flavors were spicy and well balanced. Highly recommendthe pizzas. (We got the one with jalapeño, goat cheese, and balsamic.) The star of the show, though, were the beers, in particular the Smithereen IPA. It is listed as a New England style but to me this was classic West Coast San Diego IPA. It was balanced, just the right hop level, and so refreshing! We also had the brown ale. I'm excited to go back and try more of the menu and the beers! This is the best craft brewery we have been to in Northfield, which, as a college town, has plenty of brewery options. read more

Stopped by at about 2 on a Saturday, wasn't terribly busy, but took over 10 minutes to be noticed at the host stand to get seated. I don't love to rag on service, but there were 4 people that walked right past us and the growing line and didn't even acknowledge the people standing there. Not even a "someone will be right with you". We sat outside where we were equally ignored except to order. No "how's the food?", "can I get you another beer?". The petit saison had that crisp yet earthy tones I love. Their menu works well for the vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Two friends enjoyed their vegan burger. We enjoyed our stop at this little brew pub. I had a flight of three beers and like them all, especially the Hitthebrix. My husband had the Royale burger which he enjoyed and I had the Mac'n'cheese with pulled pork; so good! Only complaint was our fried pickle appetizer tasted like fish (the previous night they had a fish special) so I'm guessing they had used the same oil in the fryer. This is my second time visiting Tanzenwald, this first about 2 years ago in 2018. My first visit was short as I was just there to have a beer and be on my way. This second visit was the real deal. I went with my girlfriend and a friend for apps, entrees and beers. I loved this place. The service was excellent. We sat at the bar and the bartender was knowledgeable about the menu and beer and extremely attentive. Now it was a Saturday night and we were virtually the only 3 patrons in there but never the less, the service was great. We ordered some Cheesy Fried Pickles to start 9/10 These were awesome. Not your typically battered and deep fried pickles. These spears were covered in Havarti cheese and then wrapped in egg roll wrappers and cane with a side of raspberry jalapeño dipping sauce. The cheese was well cheese which makes everything better and a nice touch to the pickle. The egg roll wrapper was perfectly crispy and did an excellent job sticking to the pickle and cheese and not pulling or peeling off. I loved every crispy gooey cheesy bite. Yum! I had the Hot Chicken Sandwich 7/10 The sandwich was great. The chicken was juicy and the breading was super crunchy and crispy. Personally it was lacking good heat but had plenty of flavor. It came topped with creamy coleslaw and pickles which I loved. Again more heat would have been amazing with the coolness of the slaw. Other than the heat level I noticed that the size of the chicken itself was a little lacking. Had there been just a bit more meat and a bit more heat we would have a perfect 10 here. My girlfriend ordered the Popeye Mac 8/10 Now I only had a bite or two of this so I can't speak to it too much but the bit I had was great. Very cheesy and the noodles were nice and soft. There was spinach, sautéed onions and mushrooms in this dish that paired excellent with the Swiss cheese. The beers 9/10 Between the 3 of us we tried 2 of the 5 beers available. If you go to the website you will see a number of German Style Beers. Basically the whole menu. Now the first time I went this place had all German food and beer. This second time it almost felt like a BBQ menu and I didn't see a single German beer on tap even though the website still shows them? Maybe they were just out. In any event they had some AMAZING AMAZING sours. If you are into sour beers I strongly recommend them. All in all, great place. I will be back. read more

We went on a Thursday evening and it was busy enough that parking was hard to find. We walked in and it was busy, but not packed and not too loud. We sat at a table where we were served quickly. The beer was excellent - I got the Smithereen IPA. I ordered the reuben pizza and my wife got a cheeseburger with bacon, mushrooms and pickles. We also got cheese curds. The cheese curds reminded me of the cheese curds we got from Ellsworth that we made in our airfyer. The pizza had a super thin crust, but had a good amount of toppings and a ton of flavor. My wife raves about her burger. There was a ton of mushroom and the bacon slices were very generous. I went home with a growler to go, and am already thinking about when we can get back there. read more

I lived in Northfield for approximately a month and this was the best food I found in town. It's also got a great vibe.

Probably one of the best options in Northfield! It's in a really random location but the inside is bright and airy and has cute decor, the beer is good, and they have some interesting food options for a German brewery but everything was good! I got the fried pickles, a veggie burger and their hazy IPA. If their veg burger was homemade (or an impossible burger!) then this would be 5 stars! read more

The drinks were good, but it's hard to justify spending as much as this restaurant does when it just takes so long to even get a beverage and there was only one other couple in the restaurant. If you aren't sure of your beer of choice, try a flight and see where it takes you. It's a lovey and Intimate brewery located in Northfield that just upped the contentment quotient with fine food, beer and atmosphere. Updated ...Love, love, love this place. I really enjoy tanzwnwald. Most of the food is pretty good, but there's one item that I absolutely love. The bacon, black, and bleu burger. Awwwww the perfect combination of flavors. The chefs at tanzenwald really seem to know what they are doing. The food is definitely worth it for the price. I came in having low expectations because I heard only negative things about this brewpub. Well they either they were all wrong or they have improved a lot. We got two beers and shared both sours. Another Brix in the Wall and Funkydunky. Both were really solid! Another Brix was a barrel aged sour with raspberry. It was my favorite for sure. Funkydunky was a collab they did with Loon Liquors and it was an Oak aged oud Bruin with cherries. This was delicious and smooth! One thing I will say is they need to update the menu online as it has a completely different list of beers. As for food it was great too! We started off cheesy fried pickles which were so good! I then got the Popeye Mac and Cheese which is made with their own cheese sauce, Swiss cheese, spinach, sautéed onions, and mushrooms. You can add bacon but, I dont see the need. It was really good and quite a big portion. Our bartender was the guy in charge. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and overall just a rockstar! The beer, the food, and service are all reasons to go!
