    Celts affront to Irish cuisine

I've eaten here several times over the past few years and all I can say is, "Meh." It's mediocre at best. I absolutely love Irish pubs, and actively seek them out wherever I go throughout the world. Having been to Ireland multiple times, I seek authentic atmosphere, Guinness on tap ( poured properly), and true Irish food. The Bangers and Mash were okay the last time I was here, ranking maybe a 6.5/10. I visited a few days ago after a round of golf at a nearby course and ordered the Shepards Pie. Now, Shepards Pie isn't exactly difficult to make, nor is it a unique dish. In Ireland, it would be akin to ordering a bacon cheeseburger in the states. Traditionally in Ireland, it's made with ground lamb, not beef, but ground beef has been used for decades in many recipes, so I don't hold that against folks. Other ingredients are very basic, peas, carrots, mashed potatoes, a little yellow onion, natural thickeners and seasoning. The potatoes can be cut up in cubes, but one of the defining characteristics of a good Shepards Pie is the mashed potatoes are a top layer of the mix. Almost like the heavy cheese in proper lasagna. What I was given resembled nothing like Shepards pie. It was a lot of ground beef mixed with corn with a scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy on top. It was an abomination and an affront to Irish cuisine. Shame on Celts for calling this Shepards Pie. It looked terrible, and the taste really wasn't much better. 2/10. I don't want to totally flame Celts. The Guinness was poured properly and the two bartenders were great. When I mentioned that what I was given was far from Shepards Pie, the sweet lady working the bar looked at me with a cheeky grin and shrugged as if it wasn't the first time she heard this, saying "Yeah, I'm not quite sure what they are doing back there."

Staff were friendly! Went for St. Patricks day around 3 pm and they were already out of green beer! We tried the Reuben rolls and got some other beers. Prices were average. Definitely has dive bar vibes.

Bangers and mash for an old Irish feel!

We had a soccer tournament and were looking for a place for the team to hang out and eat in-between games. Celts wasn't huge but they did an awesome job of accommodating us, especially when we weren't sure how many of us there would be. Good was great and the service was awesome. Hats off for handling a big group right when opening on a Saturday morning.

Friendly neighborhood Irish Pub where Rosemount locals come to eat and socialize! Dark, musical, friendly, and traditional. A professional staff with excellent service. The food is made in house and each day brings different specials feom the menu. Their Fish & Chips on Fridays is generally breaded and seasoned to perfection. The spicing varies, which can make the fish better or worse depending on the day. A go to for those in Rosemount and a good pit stop en route to or from the Twin Cities!

This is what $10.95 "loaded" waffle fry appetizer looks like. Don't order this.

Don't eat here. It's probably a good place to watch a game or drink a beer but my food experience was a joke. Loaded waffle fries are kinda my thing if I'm eating at a bar so I was excited to see them on the appetizer menu described as: topped with melted cheddar jack cheese, bacon bits, topped with chives and served with seasoned sour cream. What can go wrong with that? And for $10.95 they must be amazing, right? Granite City charges $11.25 and theirs are amazing. Celts? Ummmm, no. I received a basket of under-cooked waffle fries about 1.5 layers deep with a tiny bit of melted cheese on top and maybe a 1/4 of a piece of chopped up bacon on top. A complete joke for $10.95.

    Dining activity.

The bar was nearly empty, there were maybe 5 people in the bar/restaurant when we arrived. I don't think it was slow on the bartenders part as much as it was our server. A couple Guinness, a black and tan and a hot cider later, we waited to order food. While eating we decided we didn't want to wait any longer for our server so we went to the bar to ask for waters, our drinks long gone at this point. We also got up to get our own ketchup. Burger was fine but mostly flavorless. Cottage pie was fine, had I not been starving I likely wouldn't have eaten as much as I did. The food was just OK, nothing memorable or spectacular about it. Prices were pretty high for what it was, $17 for a cheeseburger is pretty outrageous, cottage pie in a ramekin was $18. Server wasn't very friendly, or was just in a bad mood that day. She spent a lot of time in the back (this was between major meal times, around 3:30-4) so she didn't seem super engaged or have much desire to be out on the floor. 3% surcharge for credit card

At that point, I knew I was in for a treat. Any dining establishment packed at non-peak dining times must be a local favorite. I got the Thursday special: meatloaf with BBQ glaze, mashed potatoes, and char grilled corn. Meatloaf is one of my comfort foods, and this one really delivered. It was cooked perfectly; moist on the inside, a nice sear on the outside, and tangy BBQ sauce. The mashed potatoes and corn were pitch perfect too; I especially liked the char on the corn. The vibe is rustic casual, with ample large screen TVs for catching a sports game. Our server brought the wrong beer (light beer instead of Surly) , but made it right when we pointed it out. The acoustics were great; which is hard to find in populated places with a concrete floor. There is a parking lot. I'm already imagining a return visit next Thursday for more meatloaf!

Named for the state's status as the 32nd to join the Union, the establishment is built around a "Beer Wall"--a self-pour monument to local brewing that promises the drinker ultimate autonomy. It is a large, inviting space, designed for the expansive social ritual of a modern taproom.  The culinary offerings here are a pleasant surprise, rising significantly above the standard "hole-in-the-wall" bar fare. The menu feels intentional rather than an afterthought, providing a solid foundation for the liquid education happening at the taps. One cannot fault the quality of the sustenance or the hospitality of the staff, who remain remarkably friendly despite a recurring operational shadow: the house always seems to be exactly one person short. Each shift carries the palpable energy of a team perpetually running a man down, a testament to their grit but a strain on the overall rhythm of the room. However, the centerpiece of the experience--the self-serve technology--is where the friction lies. While the concept of filling one's own glass is liberating, the digital interface lacks a certain clairvoyance. There is nothing quite so deflating as committing to a pour only to have the keg go "bust" mid-stream, or finding that the tap you've selected is already dry. The system requires a more robust marriage of software and cellar management; the guest should not have to be the one to discover a vacancy in the line. "A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure." -- Czech Proverb Union 32 is a noble experiment in craft beer culture, providing a vast playground for the adventurous palate. But until the technology catches up with the inventory, and the roster is filled by that one missing player, it remains a work in progress--even if the beer itself is already a finished masterpiece.
