I purchased jewelry and accessories and enjoyed a history lesson...all at the same location. There is also a trolley or tour bus for people who don't mind paying for the ride. It allows people to park their cars and let someone else do the driving. I didn't ask about the price, but it was probably worth it. There is so much to see.

I have to say that Al is as nice as the day is long. He is interested and interesting. He is eager to hear where we came from, as well as to share his history in the Taos Ski Valley. He is one of 34 year-round residents of the area. After signing waivers, he drove us roughly 30 minutes up the mountain to his horse camp at 10,500 ft. in the mountains. He assessed us for experience and fit us in duster-sized rain slickers, to keep us both dry and warm in the mountains, he said. We didn't hit any rain, but there were grey clouds on the peak next to us and lightening in the distance, so the slickers were obviously a good idea. Next he gave us a lesson on horse handling and safety, and had each of us practice on his saw horse models. Then he and Blake helped everyone saddle up and we were off...Big Al at the front and Blake at the back. We had a great 2-hour ride through the mountains with beautiful views of Taos Ski Valley and Wheeler Peak on the Bull of the Woods Trail. At the 12,000 foot summit, we were close enough to touch the last snow of the season (if we were't on horseback) which thrilled the kids on July 3. It was a glimpse of the mountain usually restricted to expert hikers...truly a privilege. Every one of our group of six are convinced that we had the best horse. My daughter was on Rio and I was on Blanco (the best I'm sure), the rest of our group were on Badger, Ace, Milagro and Payday. These horses are obviously used to riders of all experience level--were we handling them or were they handling us? The ride ended back at the horse camp. On the literature they advertise a 15-course snack, which for us was a big variety of sodas, snack cakes (twinkies, little debbie, etc), granola bars, peanuts, snack crackers, cheezits. We sat and snacked and truly enjoyed our visit with Al and Blake. On the way down the mountain, we asked Al what would be for dinner had we chosen the ride that ended with a chuck wagon dinner. He said: Shrimp cocktail Mozzarella/tomato salad Pasta Grilled pork loin Apple pie with maple syrup However I'm sure the menu changes occasionally. Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it would be good. Our ONLY disappointment of the day was that we didn't get photos of us on our horses. Once we were riding, it was hard to manage a camera, as you always had one hand on the reigns and one on the saddle horn. It would have been nice to get a group picture, or even to stop at the more scenic places. Besides that, we were thrilled. Now for the 411: 2 hour ride with snack was $65 plus tax or $70 per person all in. 2 hour ride with chuck wagon dinner was $85 plus tax. Overnight with dinner and breakfast is $145. We saw the bunks and camp and it seems like it could be a really fun adventure. Overall...6 thumbs up from our group of 6. Thanks Al, and thanks Blake. It was all you said it would be and more.

Historic Rip Off with a Concusdion…read more I spent $250 for one night at the Historic Taos Inn, and let me tell you what "historic" apparently means: nothing has been updated since the Coolidge administration. Let's take the tour. The carpet was dirty and buckled, rising up toward the bathroom threshold like it was personally trying to trip me. Nothing says "vacation" like a rug plotting your death. The air conditioning was a window unit roughly the size of a lunchbox and twice as loud, valiantly cooling approximately one square foot of the room while I sweated through the historic sheets. It sounded like a small aircraft trying and failing to take off. All night. The bed deserves its own paragraph. It was old, lumpy, and screamed like a haunted door hinge every single time I so much as breathed. I've slept on futons with more dignity and less commentary. But the crown jewel, the pièce de résistance , is the bathroom doorway, which stands a proud six feet tall. I am 6'3". There was no warning. No little sign, no cheerful "mind your head," nothing. I knocked the absolute daylights out of my skull walking into my own bathroom. In my $250 room. At night. In a place I paid to be. I'm not disappointed. Disappointed is what you feel about a mediocre breakfast. I am angry. I know Taos isn't cheap. I get it. But I paid the exact same amount at La Fonda the night before and it was genuinely lovely - clean, comfortable, and notably free of surprise architectural head trauma. Historic Taos Inn, you owe me an ice pack and an apology. Duck when you enter. Bring earplugs. Bring a helmet. Maybe just stay somewhere else.

There were multiple maintenance and functionality issues. The ductless mini-split system was not working properly, and the wall-mounted thermostat did not control the heat or A/C. The ceiling vent appeared obstructed and poorly maintained, raising concerns about airflow and ventilation. I also noted that the smoke detector showed no visible indicator light at the time, making it unclear whether it was operational, which raised a safety concern. The room itself felt dated and not well maintained. There was a visible spiderweb and debris buildup on the window sill, and the window area overall showed a lack of cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, the wooden window blinds were damaged--specifically, the upper right blind is missing the center wooden control rod, so each slat had to be adjusted by hand. The blinds also catch on the window frame/sill, preventing smooth operation and full closure. Because the room was on the ground level with people walking by, this resulted in a lack of privacy that would reasonably be expected. The bathroom also showed wear, with deteriorating caulking and grout around the tub/shower. Basic amenities were lacking--there was no clock, mini fridge, or microwave, which made the stay less convenient than expected. Additionally, there was a mouse trap placed under the bed. While I understand pest control is sometimes necessary, its visible presence in the guest room raises concerns about cleanliness and overall room readiness. Most importantly, the condition of the room and lack of amenities did not align with the price paid. For the rate charged, I expected a higher standard of maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality. The experience felt significantly overpriced relative to what was provided. The property has charm and a strong location, but without better upkeep and attention to detail, it does not currently deliver value for the cost.

We had heard there was a Bavarian Lodge in the hill so off we went. We made a reservation not knowing what it would be like. We walked around where we could and it's beautiful. It was also nice and cool. Them at our reservation time, we were greeted by a super friendly host and sat on the deck. The views were stunning and the weather was lovely. I ordered a glass of wine and my husband got a beer. We ordered schnitzel with fries. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We enjoyed every bite and the leisurely lunch in a beautiful setting was just what we needed. If we are ever this way again, we'll be stopping here for the views the friendly service and the delicious food.

Of course, we wish there had been more snow but that's the case everywhere out west in December-January 2025-2026 or so it seems. Either way, the consensus from our party was that we would return here to ski again.

What truly set this ski school apart was the unwavering positivity - no negative words were uttered to any child in the classes. Even in a year with minimal natural snow, the instructional facilities at Taos Ski Valley were top-notch, well groomed and maintained. The progressive teaching approach ensured that our son, along with his fellow students, developed their skills steadily. By the end of the day, they were confidently riding up the Gondolina, pointing their skis to stop quickly, making strong turns, and enjoying a thrilling ski run down the hill. The natural beauty of Taos Ski Valley--despite the 9 degree temperature when we arrived in the morning!-- served as a breathtaking backdrop to our son's introduction to skiing, enhancing the overall experience. After just one lesson, our son is now completely hooked on the sport. Here, there are separate entrances to the rooms and a common space. I am 6'8" so I need some space. LeAn and Charles were wonderful. It was fun to eat breakfast with the other guests and then head out for the day. Since I love to walk, I must have hiked down to Taos proper about ten times. The sidewalk aren't great and there is a lot of traffic out on the main drag. So, most visitors will need to drive to town unless you are a little nuts like me. Taos is a cool town and a great place to land. This B & B was a cool nest to rest my bones, eat a lovely breakfast, and then to do my thing. There are supermarkets in a walkable distance. Just have to get across the very busy highway.

The B&B offers a small little cottage called the Garden Gallery that happened to also be the cheapest so we went with that. Small indeed, but it did the job. We were out an about most of the time anyway, so who needs a whole lot of space? There was a small queen bed pushed against the wall. There was a traditional kiva fire that you can burn wood in seasonally. The shower was pretty big and open. There was no tub however. I liked that there were a few windows that could be opened and allowed for fresh air. The TV worked and there was also a coffee maker and mini fridge in the cottage. Other rooms are larger and have more impressive amenities if that's your thing. They all have private outdoor entrances. There is a relaxing common area with a computer, TV, and a large selection of books and readings on local happenings. There was always fresh lemonade and ice tea avaliable as well as cookies in the common kitchen area. Outside of the large dining area is a small hot tub that wreaked of chemicals, we did not venture in! Our experience was great. The owner was so kind to us, he knew we had never done the B&B thing before. We had also never been to Taos. His knowledge of this town and surrounding areas was impressive. He helped us choose a dinner destination and also a few galleries to hit up. He also gave us some tips on things to do outside of town. He also introduced us to the resident peacock, dogs, and cats that wander on and off the grounds. The breakfast was delish! We had peach stuffed french toast that was to die for. The peaches tasted as thought they were just picked off the tree. We also had fresh squeezed juice and a variety of sides. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the B&B and will return for sure. I am curious to try more B&B's after this experience but fear that it won't compare to this. Perhaps if I could compare this to other B&B's I could give it 5 stars. You might see an update in the future! (I hope anyway)
