Very great service but the food was iffy. Loved the beans and rice but the meat was very chewy in a way where it felt uncooked. We came in a group of 4 and all 4 of us struggled eating the food. Also no seasoning on the meat which I feel would've made the dish a lot better. Overall good service good environment just wish the food was better read more

Ate here tonight and it seems to be a popular spot in Waverly. It's definitely not the most authentic food I've ever had, but it's pretty good overall so no real complaints. My fajita portion was so big I don't think I ate more than a little bit. The good news is I have lunch for tomorrow! Mom and dad both loved everything they ate. Salsa was on the spicier side. In the end, like I said, it's not authentic, but it's pretty decent food nonetheless. read more

I was there to eat and got violently I'll afterwards and thought it was just a coincidence as I've eaten there before without issue. Recently, they were cited with 12 food safety violations including not washing hands, touching food with bare hands, not cleaning food prep areas, storing food above recommended temperatures, cold storage having mold growth, etc. I have included photos of the food safety report. Now I don't think it was coincidence but unhealthy food safety processes. This is disheartening because the staff there is phenomenal and I hope they can pull through this with better training but I can't in good conscience return there. read more

Got there and took forevverrrrrr to just get our chips and salsa. Salsa was awfull. Finaly got to order our food and let me tell you when I say it was the most rancid Mexican food I have ever tasted I mean it. Save your money and do not go here. I'm a fan, we frequent their Waterloo locations quit often. The menu is the same as the other sites. It's the patio that will keep us coming back to the Waverly store. It was funny our first time a few of the servers recognized us. They seemed happy to see us. As always the food was excellent. Service seemed better than other locations. read more

When going to a Mexican restaurant the first thing you get is your Salsa and chips. The salsa can be too weak or too much cilantro. Sometimes it is so hot but this was perfect. Flavors well blended with just a slight heat I ordered the fajita chimichanga It was served piping hot. Each bite you could taste the charbroiled steak inside the chimichanga even with the cheese sauce on top. I'm normally don't like Spanish rice but forgot to tell the waitress not to put it on. It was delicious. Might have to start ordering it more. Was here on a trip and if I pass by again I will definitely stopped here again. read more

Highly don't recommend this place. The waiter spilled a whole drink all over my 4 month old baby and myself. Soaked him from head to toe. They said they would give us 50% off and I asked to talk to the manager and he came over, didn't apologize once for the inconvenience or the fact we had to sit in wet sticky clothes during our meal. We we're told since we didn't want the 50% off we had to pay full price. That shows just how much they don't care about their customers. read more

Eh made the mistake of trying to get a meal during cinco de Mayo. The line to get in was nuts and we waited forever, turns out the name on my order was not correct and so it sat there for a solid 30 minutes, everything was mushy and cold by the time we got home, so the $60 was a waste. The food at Tapatio is really awesome. I always enjoy what I get here. The salsa is pretty spicy, so it's really good. It kind of seems like some of the wait staff also doubles as cooks, so sometimes they aren't as present as some other restaurants. I would put 0 stars if I could because one doesn't reach the limit. To start off they don't follow state covid-19 guidelines, I saw a cook without a mask from the patio during restaurant hours. I got food poisoning about 3 days ago from eating food from this restaurant. We ordered to go, when we got home which was tops 5 min away, we opened up my platter and it looked like a pile of smushed food all put together. On top of it my wife found a few hair strands in her burrito!! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! This place has changed its name to Tapatio Mexican Grill. Stopped by for lunch today. The salsa has some kick for restaurant salsa. The corn chips came out warm. The soda/pop glasses are the large kind, so the normal size straws just barely peak out the top of the beverage. The shrimp enchiladas were delicious. The lunch menu prices are great. read more

Tapatio Mexican Grill has a delicious variety of Mexican food just as good as the service. There menu has enchiladas, tacos, and other Mexican classics. Don't worry thought they also serve American food if your not a big fan of Mexican. We have ate here many many time and is a family favorite would highly recommend eating here. read more

There is nothing in the menu that isn't delicious. The drinks will have you out for the count because they definitely believe in alcohol. Unless you're snobby, don't waste your money on the top shelf margaritas etc bc the house tequila will do you just as good! read more

I've eaten here on a few occasions, most recently last night. We've always had friendly and quick service, the serving sizes are huge, and they have a decent selection - hence the 3-star rating. That said, if you're looking for more authentic Mexican food, this place is lacking. My first time there I asked if they had aguas frescas and was told that they don't carry them because there's no demand. They don't really offer any "caldos" or soups. Last night I wanted carnitas street tacos and was told I couldn't get those, but that I could get a carnitas dinner plate. I went with that thinking I could just make my own tacos; however, my food came and I realized they did not give me carnitas. What I got was tough and salty pork medallions with onion and bell peppers, and hiding within the mix were some carnitas. Maybe they ran out and figured I wouldn't know the difference...except I'm Mexican and I did. I was really disappointed. I would have rather preferred they told me they ran out and I would've ordered something different. read more

We stopped here on our way through town, tired of stopping at Subways, and Mexican sounded good. It was a good move. It has a nice atmosphere, bright and sunny. The service was fast and courteous and the food was good. The salsa was a bit too spicy for our liking but the chorizo con queso is delicious (if you go, you HAVE to get it)! I got tacos and my husband got a burrito and chile relleno; both meals were good. Our daughters liked their kid's meals and the fries that came with them were actually really great. read more

I would like to share the horrible experience At this restaurant on Friday evening. When we entered the restaurant there were tables and booths available, but we could not be seated because we were lacking one of six people. He arrived three minutes later. Wouldn't you have thought that we could have sat and had drinks and chips until he arrived? When we were finally seated the waiter said, "you can sit but I don't know when I will be able to get to you". No greeting, for instance" welcome to Tapatio's or I will be with you as soon as possible" -- just a rude comment. Kitchen couldn't get the order correct. Two of us ordered hamburgers without cheese, and both of them came with cheese I ordered a medium rare hamburger and it came burnt. Two of us ordered margaritas and we could taste no tequila in them at all. We have drank margaritas our whole life and know what tequila tastes like. Other than pretty spices salsa, which is still good, this placed surprised me with how good it actually was considering our other waverly restaurant experiences. My husband ordered food to go and I was swinging through after a long day at work to pick it up. I walked in and waited awhile to even be greeted at the door. When someone finally came up I told him I had a to go order and asked no details like my name or anything. He walked away and came back and acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Finally a young girl walks up with a bag and says our order and one item was incorrect. I told her no we ordered " ......." she acted irritated with me and walked away to to have the order fixed. 5 minutes goes by and she comes back and says that since she repeated the order back to my husband on the phone that we have to pay for the quesadillas on top of our correct order. I said no bc he would have NEVER ordered the quesadilla. Lol he doesn't order that. She argued with me so I asked to speak to the manager. He came out and did the same thing and said that if we didn't pay for it the waitress would have to. Ha.... well good, I hope she has to pay for it all now because I left that place real quick and will never be returning. Rude as hell. Go to El Sol outside of town instead.
