There's actually several Tapeo's throughout Barcelona, however the one I visited was found on Carrer de Montcada in the Gòtic Quarter, just a couple blocks from Pablo Picasso;) I entered to a Spanish greeting and told I could sit anywhere. It was nearing siesta time but I never felt rushed. Instead warmly welcomed and informed of the specials for the day. I was then handed the menu. I knew I wanted Sangria, but what else Ja ja ja... I chose the Iberian Pork Secreto with Roasted Peppers and Ricota Tapas. I chose the Quinoa and Avocado Salad. I added Catalan, pa amb tomàquet. I drank Red Sangria... lots of Red Sangria! Everything was mouth watering delicious! Salud! I probably would have added another dish if I wasn't planning on strolling a mile to Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona! Oh well! Always next time! We had high expectations of Tapeo from the reviews, I'd mark our overall experience as a 3.5. We walked into Tapeo for our reservation and it was tight and busy. We had to hunt around for a host to get seated. As we were seated the host let us know that they needed our table by 8pm. Not a problem, it gave us 90 minutes. The rub was 20 minutes went by with no sighting of a server. Again this is a small space, but we had to hunt to place an order... With that said we got our order in and there were some solid selections. The stars were the sweet veal and the tenderloin. The sweet veal was tender and flavorful, served on a split bone with marrow. Absolutely delicious and worth a try! The tenderloin was also solid, the set and well flavored. Several other selections were just ok. The burrata was fresh and the plentiful tomatoes popped. The sea bass ceviche was flavorful and fresh, a good balance of tartness but the proportion of fish to fillet was a bit much. There were several dishes we wouldn't select again. The octopus was over cooked but had decent flavor. The glazed beef check was just not that good. The flavoring had a bit of an artificial taste. It was stringy and in an seemingly artificially gelatinous sauce. All and all I'd avoid Tapeo, it's pricier than other really great spots in the area. read more

A super fun experience packed into a tiny bar found in an alley of the Gothic Quarter. They're know for their fidua which is like a paella using short noodles instead of rice. Tapeo was hands down my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. We got in just before the busy dinner rush, probably around 9pm. If you didn't know, Europeans start dinner late - very normal to arrive 11pm-1230am and start a meal. We got the last two seats on the counter - closest to the kitchen - which was by the way the smallest kitchen I've ever seen but I loved where we sat because we were able to see the chefs in action. We got everything from octopus to potatas bravas to passion fruit panna cotta a d chocolate mousse that comes with bread and olive oil to dip - let me just say - it was all amazing. One of the better tapas places we visited during our 10 day Barcelona/Madrid trip. They offered a uni Fideuà which we thoroughly enjoyed (although I'm more a paella kinda guy). The bombeta was ok; potato croquette-esque. The beef fillets with chumchurri were slightly over cooked but flavorful. Our favorite dish here was the truffle egg with foie and mushrooms. We ordered the PATATAS BRAVAS (traditional Spanish tapas), Spanish marinated tuna belly, Tomato with bufala burrata, Skirt of beef filet with chimichurri, IBERIAN PORK RIBS WITH HONEY & MUSTARD (the BEST ribs I've ever had.. First of all, the service was great! I sat at the bar, the waiters were very friendly and professional. Bomba - Really yum. The fried skin was thin and crispy, lots of meat inside, aioli sauce and tomato sauce were great hit. Black Catalan Cuttlefish Fideuá - Delicious. The noddles were a bit salty, but adding aioli sauce could balance it. It was real squid ink and there were squid meat in the noodles too. If you are concerned about the 'stain' - it won't leave any mark on your teeth but some will stay on your tongue. Wine - I wanted to try red today so went with Rioja. With paella/fideua you can pair with either white or red. The first bottle was a bit dry, so the waiter switched to another lighter one for me (remember it was LAN reserva). As I prepare to write this review, I feel tears percolating inside of me. Here's why... My trip to Barca was already epic, but the food there made it even more epic. Tapeo was the best restaurant I ate at while I stayed in the Barca gothic quarter. On the morning of my hotel check-in, I decided to walk from my previous hotel near La Sagrada Familia ALL THE WAY to my new hotel at the gothic quarter with all my luggage (I don't know why I do this to myself). Anyway, after walking over a mile, I arrived in the beautiful historical area, I checked in, dropped off my bags, and quickly hit the cobblestone streets. As I walked thru the old medieval buildings, I looked around for a quick bite. I saw Tapeo nestled next to the KAWS and Picasso museum (talk about a collab). I walked into a charming narrow restaurant. It had a long bar and small tables to the other side of the wall. Very intimate. I began looking at the menu, but asked the servers for help. They immediately jump to help out and recommend their favorites. This is when I discovered the honey pork ribs... when I tried these ribs, the earth stopped spinning, all was right in the world. I was in a transcendental state. Imagine a crispy pork skin with a steaming hot, soft, and tender inside gently sitting on a smoked bone, perfectly glazed with honey, falling off the bone as soon as you lift it up. Wow. I will literally go back to Barcelona for just this restaurant. I went here twice. The only place I went to twice. Should have went more than twice. 10/5 read more
