UPDATED Review. I didn't wanna have to do this but I've been trying to get my tattoo touched up for almost 3 months now. I've been following up since the end of Jan, which was two weeks after the original session since I can still see the original tattoo and I've been stood up 3x. I understand life happens, but I live an hour and drove to the shop 2x without knowing he'd be there. He was sick the first time - again I get that life happens. After I showed up at the agreed upon time a second time and he wasn't there, he rescheduled for a few days later but never got back to me on a time despite me texting the day before and day of. Thankfully I knew better than to leave home this time. I was promised that my touch up would be done and healed before I left for my wedding - I leave in a week and still nothing. I wanted to give this place a chance. It was crazy. I walked into the owner going off on a tattoo artist. Completely unprofessional. I was a little scared to leave a review; I might get cursed out too. Only one tattoo artist greeted me. He came up asked me questions and got the idea of what I wanted. I came back the next day because it was late. So the next day, it took him like an hour to stay on me. I forgot the guy name but he was tall about 6'2 not a small guy and he was black I believe from New York. So this was the most expensive tattoo and the worse tattoo I've ever gotten. He forgot to trace alll the lines, he also scarred me and he forgot to go over some lines as well. Just overall bad. Not at all worth $200. I feel like I got ripped off and I'm paying another tattoo artist to fix it. read more

I have been going to this tattoo shop for about a year now. Over the course of that timeframe, I have gotten 8 tattoos from Tapout and every experience has been greater than the last. They have some amazing talented people from comic book artists to music producers to comedians to painters, you can find just about anything you need at Tapout. Lol But overall, there are some really great and genuine people who work there, and you will have a great experience. This review is based solely on Ms. Brown and not the other guys. She pierced my nipples. The sign on the counter had the prices $30/$60 meaning $30 for one nipple and $60 for both nipples. I didn't think I had to confirm the prices based on the sign on the counter. Right? This is where the bulls**t starts. Once I had my nipples pierced. She tells me the price is $160. The f**k?! My nipples were hurting at that moment so I honestly wasn't thinking until I got out of the shop and my friend was like damn that was a lot. While we were talking Ms. Brown comes outside to talk to us. So I asked her straight up about the prices on the sign versus what she charged me. She says it's $60 for each nipple and the jewelry was a separate charge. I paid a total of $160! Who charges separately for the nipple ring? Was I supposed to walk out of the shop with needles in my nips? When I asked her about the prices I could tell from the look on her face that she was full of s**t. She finessed me for sure. This place is so unprofessional! I get its a tattoo shop but geesh! I paid a "deposit" of $100 ($50 for a guaranteed 2 days of tattooing) A WEEK IN ADVANCE (4/5/16). I was told this $100 would go towards my total tattoo price (don't think that's how deposits work in the first place, but whateves) My appointment was set for Tuesday (4/12/16) at 6:30pm, but it wasn't until I PERSONALLY REACHED OUT and contacted my artist to make sure everything was a go, to be told that he wasn't feeling well and had to leave for the day. It was about 5:00pm at this point) Things happen, cool no biggie. The next day, I was told he had been in a car wreck and was handling things around 4/5pm but that he would be in the shop later on that night, and that I would be contacted. I NEVER heard from him. At this point, I no longer have the availability for a tattoo which I've already paid for. ( I paid for specific dates for this very reason) I voiced that I would just like to be refunded. There were no hard feelings and I was more than happy to come back at a later date and pay full price. BUT YET AGAIN, instead of being refunded something else came up as to where the agreed rescheduled date of Monday 4/19 did not work for him. I WAS OKAY AND WILLING TO HAVE MY TATTOO DONE SINCE APRIL 12th. After contacting this man AGAIN, he finds himself upset because "he DONE already explained to me how he was going to take money off of my tatt for the inconvenience, he made me a deal and I can take it or leave it." WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT TO BE TATTED BY SOMEONE AFTER DEALING WITH THIS LEVEL OF UNPROFESSIONALISM?! If he didn't have my money from jump he could've said that (Which was more than likely the case, because if someone does not want to be tatted by you anymore and does nothing wrong as to where they missed their schedule apt, etc you'd think the money would be given back to them no questions) Get something IN WRITING before booking with these people. Given that this was a black owned shop my friend and I said let's give it a try. We showed up at about 1:57pm slightly before 2p...just to make sure we can be there for the walk in. When we walked in there was a man with dreads smoking a hookah, the shop was very smoky! There were also 2 women, one laying on a table with a dog on her lap. Within one minute my allergies went into effect! I had to step out. But before this...the man asked (in between hookah puffs) did we have an appointment because there were no artist there. We said no the website said walk/ins were accepted. So my friend was going to wait but I had already made my mind that I was not getting a tattoo here! She eventually agreed! I never stepped back inside and at 2:32 we finally got in our Uber to go to another shop! No one had come in that 30 mins span and the man never stopped smoking his hookah. Unprofessional! I went to this shop today to get a nose piercing. No paperwork. No intake process. No explanation of how the service would go. The guys were nice enough and I like to support black business so I tried it anyway. Tron got the needle through but could not get the ring through, I was dripping blood and the whole ordeal took 10 minutes of excruciating and unnecessary pain. He remained calm but he started blaming the failed attempt on the ring, his gloves, my nose... etc. After 10 minutes of blood dripping down my chin I told him to abort mission. I left with no nose ring and iced my nose the rest of the night. I think everything is fine now but I wish they would have at least sent me with antiseptic or something :( read more

I regret coming here, I got my first half sleeve here. I didn't like the finished product and the artist knew it but he didn't want to fix it and told me that he thought it looked good. I got a spine tattoo done here, for my boyfriend who passed away a few months earlier, and JJ did a great job. He made me feel comfortable and had a good music playlist. The only reason I can't give 5 star is because for weeks before I came in i texted the number on the Instagram page, just to ask a few questions and received no response until two days after i came in, that was about a month after my initial text message. Also I wanted my tattoo to reach all the way down my spine, and showed picture of a stretched cursive font, but the tattoo only stop 3/4 down my spine, so now I will have to go back to add a little more to let it reach the bottom. Very professional and respectful, he will get you right. I had to wait a bit before he got there but after my tattoo was finished it was very much worth the wait. My sister and I both paid $25 deposits to JJ. Long story short, the day we arrived, he said his boss was not opening the shop...but also sent a message 20 mins before our scheduled time explaining someone was working on the wiring. My sister lives out of town and would not be able to reschedule. He said he would return our deposits. I followed up a few times, he said he was struggling to pay his booth rent and apologized for the inconvenience. It's been over a month now...still nothing. I emailed the owner to let him know...he hasn't responded. The $25 is not life or death for us...it is however, disrespectful. We paid our deposit in good faith to get booked. I just realized I never did my review on this place. I got my tattoo done at Tapout Tattoo a couple of years ago. I got tatted by Yonio. He was down to earth and open minded about what I wanted to get. He was able to squeeze me in when he had time. I got a colored koi fish and lion on both of my thighs. I also got a crest that represented my sorority on my back near my left shoulder. He's no longer at the shop, but I follow him on social media and try to keep in touch. Great work and I see him doing great things through his social media pages. Haven't been back since he left, so I don't know about the work that the current artists do, but I'm sure they do great work also. read more

I don't know about the rest of the artists who work here but Josh Lemon is very very unprofessional. I booked an appointment with him and come time for me to get my tattoo he just didn't show up. I called and texted him, his boss/ owner of the shop called and texted him. The receptionist tried to get in contact with him, I had my sister call from her phone, but he was not answering his phone at all. Hours go by and I see he is posting tattoos on Instagram that he was currently doing later that day in the shop. He didn't call me back he didn't text me to reschedule or apologize for the inconvenience or unprofessional service, nothing. Mind you for me to book I had to pay a $50 deposit so that was automatically taken from my account. I've had my chest and my back done by Mike himself and I must say you've never had great work til you come to this shop. Genuine guy talks to ya and puts his heart into his art and it does show.
