Needed to cater a taco lunch for 20 people and Taqueria Alonzo came through. 50 tacos, a variety of salsas pico, cilantro, and onions plus a ton of fresh tortilla chips. Their tacos are fresh corn tortillas and stuffed with well seasoned carne asada and chicken (you choose the protein). This place is a sold value! Good, homemade fresh cuisine, friendly service, plus you don't walk out of this place hungry. My lovely spouse had the fish tacos, we could taste every ingredient, a good mix of flavors without one item overwhelming the dish. I had the shrimp with mushrooms and onions (there's a Spanish name for the dish that I can't remember). The shrimp was meaty, cooked just right. I created my own mini tacos with the corn tortillas provided and the guacamole that comes with the dish. I'm sure this meal sets back my diet a few notches, but it w well worth it. Pretty killer Mangonada and the Menudo that I ordered was also delicious. Some memorable moments: I dropped my tamarindo for my Mangonada, and the staff was kind enough to bring me a replacement. The Menudo is seasonal - although the person taking my order recommended the tacos, they did mention that the Menudo was pretty good for the super cold weather. Opted for it and was not disappointed. The bowl was chock full of tripe and other meats and was also served with corn tortillas and a plate full of extra garnishes and seasonings (e.g. onions, cilantro, pepper, etc.). It's my first time here and though i only ordered street tacos with beef and a 32oz hibiscus tea super yummy as it is sweet and tangy (agua de Jamaica) - everything was great! The pricing and portion size did not disappoint!! It is in the complex near by Rice's pharmacy or across the street from Fred Meyer. I ordered two street taco with beef and cheese in flour tortillas and that drink all for $9.75 and it included chips & salsa. very affordable lunch! i had so much left over cheese and steak from the taco that it went so went with the chips too! They have some mini stand setup for snacks and self serve drinks station for soda fountain and the horchata and jamaica. Just purchase the cups and largest size is 44 oz. $3.75 for 32 oz was more than enough for me and i still had plenty left over from lunch later on. Ample parking! read more

I had stopped in here years ago and wasn't impressed. That was years ago. The other day, a friend mentioned it was a good place for tacos. You know that I love tacos, right? Well, now you do. It's over on the other side of town, and I haven't been eating out much lately, but... tacos. So I was in the neighborhood today a little after 13:00 on my way home from another errand, and I thought, "Hmmm. I should at least give it a try." About a minute before I pulled into the parking lot, I got a text from a friend asking if I wanted anything from an establishment that is just a few doors down. I was driving, so waited until I got out of the car. Well, my friend was right there, so we had lunch together. My friend had the vegetarian burrito, and it was indeed quite large. My friend liked it and took at least half home for another meal. Burritos. Yeah, they're good, but... TACOS! Oddly, their street tacos not only come with a choice of wheat flour or corn tortillas, but you can get cheese on them for an extra fee. Sorry dude, good tacos don't need no queso. On a lark I ordered a tostada de civeche. If it's good, civeche is worth it. Their tostada de civeche was good, but certainly not "write home about it" good. Barely good enough to write about it on Yelp... Oops. too late. I probably will pass next time. If I'm hungry enough, I'll just get MORE TACOS! OK. I said tacos. Right. So I tried the chile verde and the carnitas. I judge a taco shop by their carnitas. Theirs was good. It had grilled onions in it. What it was missing was some radish slices and a piece of lime. I suppose I can abide, but it would have been better. The other thing that was less than ideal is they weren't as hot as they should be. I don't mean chile hot; they were tepid. They were still tasty. If I am in the neighborhood again and am hungry and want tacos, there's at least a 78.24% chance I'll stop in and get one or more. But keep the damn cheese. It doesn't belong on a good street taco. Not that I have an opinion or anything. Is it my favorite taco shop in town? Well, no. There's another one I am really fond of, but that may just be me. I won't name it; I have a review for it if you want to dig. Very good carnitas and friendly service. But I will almost certainly be back to Taqueria Alonzo at some point. Guess what I'll order? The food was lackluster, ordered nachos probably the biggest regret ever. The service is great, nice employees and the restaurant are very nice. But the chips are too hard and you can see it under a light as they have stacks of it. The salsa is bland and has no flavoring, the cheese on my nachos were microwaved and got a big chunk of it. I would say though that the portion size was good for what I paid but was inedible to eat as I had to give it to my own dog to eat. Where to start. Taqueria Alonzo is excellent. Quality food that tastes great, and is reasonably priced. They have excellent, authentic flavors that blend together so well and taste amazing. One of the things I really enjoy about Taqueria Alonzo is that there food is super flavorful without using a ton of salt or fat to create the flavor. Salt and fat are CHEAP flavor enhancers, one of the ways that restaurants enhance taste without putting in the time or ingredients to build flavor profiles. Not at Taqueria Alonzo. I appreciate the warmth of their staff, the reasonable prices, and excellent food. I came in for lunch around 12p Tuesday and it was empty... up until 12:30 rolled around and people started filling in the seats very quickly! Luckily, I just missed the rush so I was already seated with my free chips + salsa, 3 taco plate and michelada. My drink and food came out really fast - maybe total in 10 minutes. It was great because I was starting to get hangry. The michelada was good. You get to choose what beer you want in it - I chose Modelo Especial. The only thing to me that was missing was the tajin - I should seriously just start carrying a bottle with me wherever I go. Anyway, the tacos were flavorful and full of meat. Usually three tacos would kind of just keep me satisfied - but boy, was I actually really full! I had ordered carnitas, grilled chicken and al pastor tacos and I think my favorite was the al pastor and the carnitas. Jesus, where do I start? This establishment poses online as an authentic, independent counter-serve Mexican joint, but the truth is so much more disappointing. Trapped in a hellish limbo between that delusional internet facade of a better taqueria and the stereotypical Americanized Family Mexican restaurant, screaming children run up and down the already tight, oblong aisles of booths, unfettered by underpaid & overworked waitstaff not likely to stand up to the parents giving you incredulous side eye as you sidle past to the bathroom. My wife & I went through three employees on our quest for dessert, the check & a parting shot of tequila. Our initial waitress disappeared for a solid 15 minutes after delivering our meals, and when I asked what appeared to be her replacement for help she straight up told me no, she wasn't a waitress (I saw her take the orders of two tables next to us). Obviously this means I go to the counter now, right? No, the cashier acted like I was trying to eat with my left hand in Pakistan. Screw it, we don't need dessert; at this point we just want out of this passive-aggressive subwoofer, give me the check. In the time span it took for me to grab my wife and return to pay--the only thing the cashier agreed to do--someone had started the process of getting our churros despite the encumbrance it apparently put upon the front counter of a purported counter-serve restaurant, and the cashier took my surprise as my no longer wanting them, which warrants the biggest lean-in and sigh possible, of course. And the churros were heat-lamp petrified logs, if you're wondering. The ONLY good thing I can say...bomb pollo adobo tacos. 6/30/2019 I took my family in for dinner. We ordered three kids meals and they were out of chocolate and regular milk. I ordered my two taco plate plain with only cheese. When my order came it was loaded with everything. I really put my server out to get another taco plate the way I ordered it. I got a rude attitude with no apology. My order can out correct but with another server and we never saw our first server again. My wife's burrito was cold and the cheese wouldn't melt. All of the food had very little flavor. We were very disappointed because we frequent the one on Albany monthly and really enjoy the food and great service. Needless to say we will not go back when in Corvallis. read more
