Also had the El Elote and these were not exactly my favorite version. There was a mix of several flavors. My main lunch was the Pescado Frito which I decided could actually be the best fish tacos I've ever had. Would definitely return for this dish. Needed a dessert so tried the Date Pudding. Expecting something resembling a pudding, was a little surprised that the dish was really a cake. Very tasty and definitely needed the ice cream on the side. Overall, was pleased with the offerings. Cost might have been a little steep for a casual lunch, but then again I did order several items.

The restaurant is medium sized, clean, and spacious, with a wide variety of menu options. They offer brunch, lunch, dinner, desserts, and happy hour which is a nice bonus. I do wish the happy hour details were listed on a menu or somewhere visible. Our server, who was new, let us know that margaritas were half of and only select tacos were $2 for taco Tuesday. We each ordered a margarita, which was deliciously only $6 each. For starters, we shared the "Los Tres Diaz" platter, which includes guacamole, elote and fish ceviche served with chips. Everything was fresh and flavorful and great way for two people to sample a bit of everything. As for the tacos, the happy hours election wasn't as appealing so I opted for the shrimp tacos. Instead, the order came with three good size tacos and although the rice and beans are available as an add-on they don't come with a meal. The highlight was definitely the mango pineapple, pico de gallo, and added so much flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed. I'd definitely come back.

Missed the Mark This Time…read more.. A friend made dinner reservations for Friday at 5:30 p.m. and noted it was for a birthday celebration. I arrived early with the birthday guest, and the hostess stand had three employees. They quickly found our reservation and asked whether we preferred a table or a booth--we chose a booth. The restaurant itself is colorful, nicely decorated, and already lively for the early dinner hour. A large family celebrating a child's birthday was seated next to us, adding to the bustle. We were given water, chips, and salsa right away. When our server arrived, I ordered two Classic margaritas and one Strawberry. He didn't ask whether we wanted them on the rocks or frozen, so they arrived on the rocks by default. As the last member of our party joined us, the drinks were served--and all three were inconsistent. None of them had a lime garnish, and all had very little ice. One Classic margarita was half-salted, the other barely salted, and the Strawberry lacked both lime and proper chilling. Online photos show the drinks garnished with lime, so this was disappointing. The Classic margaritas also tasted like they came from a premade mix. The chips and salsa were fine--nothing memorable--but when the staff refilled them, the fresh, hot batch was noticeably better. For entrées, we ordered Pollo Borracho (Drunk Chicken), Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, and Grilled Shrimp with cheese on the side, all with flour tortillas. The food arrived quickly, and the server warned us the plates were hot. The birthday guest enjoyed the Pollo Borracho, but both shrimp dishes were a major letdown. As the server set down my plate, he immediately noticed the avocado was missing. The Camarones al Mojo de Ajo had no flavor beyond minced garlic, and the shrimp tasted steamed rather than grilled. The same was true for the Grilled Shrimp-- no seasoning, and no flavor. (Image below). The lettuce was bitter, and there were no tomatoes. After checking the online menu (the printed one was too small to read), I saw that the grilled shrimp should come with fresh minced garlic, onions, tomatoes, and a wine-and-butter salsa. No sighting of tomatoes or wine and butter salsa. Overload of minced garlic and onions. See image below. I ended up adding salsa from the chips just to give it some taste. We received only two tortilla warmers with three tortillas each. The server said he could bring more upon request, but by the time we asked, we were nearly finished. Interestingly, the second batch was much hotter than the first. We didn't order dessert. When the server brought the bill, my friend asked whether there was a complimentary birthday dessert. He questioned why she waited until the end to mention it, even though she had noted the birthday when making the reservation--and there was a BIRTHDAY BAG on the table. I also mentioned that the birthday guest did not want any singing. Despite that, the server returned with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, a black mariachi hat, and two additional employees who sang to him. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere and quick service, but the execution fell short. The margaritas were inconsistent, the shrimp dishes lacked flavor and proper preparation, and the birthday acknowledgment felt awkward despite being noted in advance. While the Pollo Borracho was enjoyed, the overall experience didn't meet expectations. Happy Hour: Mon - Thur only, No Fridays!

Ok, I was hungry for Mexican food. A SoCal transplant to Chicagoland, I gotta say I was missin' it…read more So, as hub-hub was out of town on family business, I headed over on a windy Saturday night for some grub! I was greeted immediately and enjoyed the ambience. A bit old, but still nice. It even looked like they had an windowed view spot where we could see....what... the tortillas, maybe, being made? A good sign. I was sat in a very lonely spot, at the far backside of the restaurant on the only 2-person table I saw. Oh, wonderful. It appeared the table hadn't been completely wiped clean, so I asked a busboy to wipe it down - he very promptly complied- nice. Ok- as the menus came, so did the tortilla chips and homemade salsa- wow. The chips were THICK and the sauce was really good- albeit a bit spicy (not a crime!). The waitress came over, introduced herself, and I promptly ordered their special drink- the "Mexican Mai-Tai". Gotta say it was good! I ordered off their special menu- enchiladas tomatillo with pollo (chicken). I swear, less than 2 minutes later came a small bowl of soup (not expected, but ok) - then less than 5 minutes after ordering the main? Came the main! The beans and rice were nice; it came with a bit of shredded lettuce- and the 3 enchiladas were not bad. At all. Definitely satisfied my craving for Mexican food! Why the demerits? The holy grail of any restaurant is always the service. Once I completed the mains, the busboy quickly took the dishes off the table. And then I waited. And waited. I flagged down a busboy and asked for my check- he said he'd flag down my waitress. And then I waited. After 15 minutes, I bagged it. I put on my jacket and went to the host desk and complained. Though I was able to pay at the front desk, why did I have to wait? What was so important on a not-so-busy Saturday night that meant I had to wait for my bill? Just awful, La Hacienda. I don't mind waiting a few minutes (most restaurants have this awful habit of making diners wait too long for their bills anyway, right?). But 15 minutes? And even after I pointed this out I still waited to no avail? No diner should ever be asked to wait until they "got around to it". Would I come again? Naw. Sorry, but even though the early part of the meal was great and I was speed-served the food? The finish killed it for me.
