Life isn't fair. If you haven't learned that lesson yet... I'm sorry. I'm sorry you have to go through something so terribly adverse in your life to realize... life isn't fair. Today, I was reminded of this existential reality when I bit into a taco from Taqueria el Cabrito, not just one hour after finding out there are actually two (YES TWO) Taqueria el Cabritos in Annapolis Maryland. Life isn't fair. Why does Annapolis get to have two of the MOST delicious taco places I've ever been too, and Montgomery County doesn't even get one. Life is not fair. Biting into one of those tacos... my immediate thought ( and I verbalized this for the live studio audience): "Oh... this is what people are talking about when they talk about the insanely umami-rich savory balanced perfection that is a Mexican Street Taco." Oh, this is why people have taco shaped hats, and have vanity license plates that read "Tacos4Lyfe." And this is definitely what my adorable dish towel means when it says "Lets give them something to taco about." #BonnieRait4Lyfe Life isn't fair Aqui es la lista: Al pastor taco Carne enchilada taco (Roasted pork) Taco de camarones (shrimp) Pechuga asada (grilled chicken) First I tried the pechuga asada... and I died. The chicken looked seemingly overcooked. It is not. It is a thin cut of cut up chicken that has a deep golden brown crust and it is tender as the voice of Barry White. This chicken is served over a bed of tomato rice with a side of beans and what the menu proclaims is a "house salad." That house salad is actually a trio of pico, guacamole, and sour cream over a bed or thinly shaved iceberg lettuce. Make no mistake, the three taco fixings make up the vast majority of that "salad" and I would have it no other way. The beans have a flavor that I can only imagine is coaxed by a wand that is 11" long, made of holly, with a phoenix feather core. The meal is served with a wide bottomed green onion and a jalapeno that I believe are fried. No, not breaded and fried. Just fried to the point of toothsome perfection. The taco I tried at the gas station was the carne enchilada taco. This taco was a subtle gauntlet thrown down to all other tacos in the area. The meat was salty, rich, deep, fatty, and dripping with a sauce that hit. I mean, it hit so hard my airbags almost deployed. The tacos are served on a paper plate with a confetti of cilantro, a few slices of radish, the same delicious green onion and jalapeno, and a few lime wedges clumsily thrown into the middle. Presentation is an afterthought. Flavor is the priority. And man do they have their priorities straight. Eating these tacos was an exercise in will power. The will power to not quit my job and start working for Taqueria El Cabrito so I could learn how they make these tacos. The will power to realize that driving out to Annapolis for tacos is something I can't do on the regs. The will power to eat one taco, and not go in and order 10 more for the next three day's meals - pure unadulterated will power. Life isn't fair. Taqueria El Cabrito - If you'd like... I will find a gas station in Moco that will have you. This would be a task so simple it would seem advantageous. All it would require is me going to your Annapolis location and bringing tacos to any single gas station in Montgomery County. But I'll do it. I'll do it for you - you just say the word. I was told by a friend to try this place otw to the beaches, and it's in a convenient location, right off 50 in the Exxon gas station, so I don't have to go too far out of my way and get the car filled up before crossing the bay bridge. I'd recommend it for a quick meal! My husband and I had 3 tacos each (al pastor, carnita, and chorizo). We got our order within 5-10 minutes. They came with the green and the orange sauces in small containers. There's no bar with toppings like you might find in some places. The tacos come in double corn tortillas which are excellent and are topped with cilantro and onions. Radish comes in slices instead of minced. I enjoyed the chorizo more than the other two. I also recommend the horchata (sweet drink that offsets the spiciness of the sauces). There are tables and chairs indoors, but we ate outdoors, there are a couple of tables and a bench off the side of the gas station, not really comfortable, but good enough. The workers are not wearing masks (8/21/21) which is a bit odd considering we're right in the middle of the delta variant outbreak. read more

It's the most affordable and convenient place to get tacos around here, and the horchata is not bad at all (unlike another local Mexican spot, looking at you senior chiles) Obviously the ambience isn't going to be that of any restaurant because it's in a gas station (duh) but they did have flowers out the last time I was there and it smelled very pretty inside. Service is quick and they are nice as long as you are straight to be point and polite. read more

My experience was not the best like the others. We had high hopes for the customer service and food quality. Let's start with the kids meal. The portion size is good but the rice was overly cooked. They place the child drink inside the food box making it hot. When I asked for a new one they said they didn't have another. I asked for a cup with ice and the lady seemed bothered. The next order we're two chicken burritos. The tortilla was burnt and the rice was, again, over cooked. They do give you a big portion but our food was not fresh. I order a green pozole, that was a mistake. It smelled spoiled and it had the pork eyes and snout. (I was disturbed since I'm not used to that) it looked like they didn't do the extra step to probably clean the poultry. I was shocked since this place has so many stars and great reviews. Taqueria el Cabrito is a small taqueria located inside the Exxon gas station. The menu was quite extensive, offering items such as tacos (lengua, carnitas, carne asada, al pastor, cecina de res, carne enchilada, tripa, cueritos, barbacoa, campechano, cabeza, chorizo, pollo, and camarones), burritos, tortas, and various breakfast platters. The hubs and I shared 3 tacos - an al pastor (this was my favorite, as it was very tender; I just wished they added some pieces of pineapple/pina!); a carne asada (wasn't a fan of this, as the meat was a bit too tough and a bit too salty; it also had an off taste to it); and, carnitas (while it had nice crisp edges, I also found this to have an off taste to it). I liked how the plate of tacos comes with slices radish, a slice of lime, a bulb of grilled scallions, and a grilled jalapeno. The corn tortillas could have been more fresh, but they were slightly dried out. We also tried the horchata, and it was a little thin, but had a good cinnamon taste to it. Eastbound on Highway 50, exit 29a right before the bay bridge is the gem of a joint. The food is simple and authentic and very reasonably priced. I had three tacos, barbacoa, carnitas, and a carne asada all topped off with onions and cilantro. On the side, they served a roasted pepper and green onion with some radishes for garnish. For those who read or follow my posts, you know I have eaten Tacos from Texas to Florida to NY and beyond. This place came with a high ratings but today my rating is a 3. Now this place is takeout only as mentioned in posts as it resides inside the Exxon food market. I ordered onsite and thus had to wait awhile because of the phone orders ahead of me. Had 5 tacos which they managed to put all on 1 paper plate, overlapping each other and covered with tin foil. 2 of the Tacos were ok, Chorizo and Shrimp, but the pork and the beef tongue both had big chunks of grizzle, and the fish was overcooked. The woman at the counter was pleasant. This place may be higher on a different day but not on this visit. read more

Takes a few minutes more than fast food to get their quality selections. Got the 3 taco combo with rice and black beans for $10. Got steak but large selection of other fillings. I was so excited to try this after reading so many reviews. Also had a 4.5 stars on Google! But, genuinely question HOW?! The food was AWFUL. Not at all authentic Mexican. It was actually cold- not even mildly warm. It felt like they literally scooped food out of the refrigerator and put it in a box and gave it to us. I asked for "queso" and was given small blocks of cheese and charged $2. When I asked for shredded cheese she pretended not to speak English (even though she spoke good English when checking us out) and claimed they didn't have any which is false because it came on my chicken taquitos. This delightful restaurant is located inside of Exxon off of exit 29A. They don't speak much English but that is totally fine, as long as you know what you're ordering. For an authentic Mexican joint to be discovered in the corner of an Exxon one bridge away from the eastern shore of MD would seem challenging, but not for Taqueria el Cabrito. Authentic beyond imagine, the double corn tacos holding some of the most flavorful beef, chorizo, and pork you can imagine. Fresh onions and cilantro as a standard topping makes for a fresh math-watering taco. My wife is vegetarian and orders the vegetarian tacos. Rice, beans, pico, and sour cream are turned into one hell of a taco, and that's coming from me, a non vegetarian. The tacos come with a fire roasted jalapeño and and braised onion root, which I chose to chop and add to my tacos!! The men and women who run this joint are super nice, efficient and create the most authentic and delicious tacos I have eaten. I had quite possibly the best $9 chicken burrito ever here! This place is definitely a hole in the wall kinda spot. It's in the Exxon gas station. At first it seems very sketch but what they lack in ambiance they more than make up for in food. I had their chicken burrito which weighed about two pounds lol It was delicious! Pulled chicken perfectly cooked with generous helpings of beans and rice as well as other ingredients all perfectly seasoned to my liking. I also grabbed some chips and guacamole. The guacamole was delicious and the chips were the nice thick crispy ones. Yum! This spot is definitely worth stopping by. It's a huge improvement on the other "food shops" that used to be in this location. I tried this place after reading several great reviews and having a craving for good Mexican food. Hands down, THE best tacos I've had in years!!! My favorite was the cabeza taco. The meat was nice and moist, the spices perfect, nice fresh veggies, plus a free grilled jalepeño & and chives. Don't let the location scare you as it is inside the Exxon station. They are the first restaurant out of many over several years that have rented the space built as a kitchen on the side of this very large gas station to be successful. Man am I happy about that. Whenever I visit my parents from now on, I'm eating a taco or two, or grabbing something to bring to dinner with them. Don't let "cabeza" scare you, I "took the plunge" and it was well worth it. After watching several cooking shows from around the world, I have come to learn that the meat from the cheeks of the animal is the most tender and delicious. Besides, the cows aren't using their face all day to stand up and walk around the fields, so it follows that it was as good as it was. I also had a huarache, this is a thick fried tortilla with refried beans on top, your choice of meat on top of that, shredded cheese, lettuce, and probably another vegetable I'm forgetting. This was also very good, but I have to agree with the employees suggestion, tacos! The homemade salsa is excellent as well, and comes in mild & hot. There is a large table in front of the kitchen and two more by the front window, however the two front tables are usually full of people wasting an inordinate amount of money and time on scratch off lottery tickets, or "betting on the horse race," a computerized way to take idiots money hand over fist. Stopped for the first time today after a friend gushed about the food. She was not kidding: really good Mexican food, freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. I ordered a carnitas tlayuda (a grilled "sandwich" made with refried beans, pork carnitas, tomatos, avocados, and queso fresco between corn tortillas, served with homemade red and green sauces) for $10. It was hot, juicy, and fresh: really, really good. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is very little seating - not surprising for a gas station location, but it would have been nice to relax and enjoy the food before jumping back into Bay Bridge traffic. But it's not going to keep me from coming back, many, many times in the future! read more
