This is a warm "telera" bread [a savoury Mexican bread made with wheat flour] toasted over the grill with your choice of protein, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, queso fresco aka cheese, and crema. My meal was delicious and filling. I also had mango juice to do with my meal. I had an amazing experience, the workers were friendly and the food was amazing! If you're in Winterville, NC, and you are craving some fresh and authentic Mexican food, I recommend stopping by this taco shop. When you walk in, it's bright, it's simple, it's straight to the point, "we are here to serve you tacos, tortas, and quesadillas with sauces." I ordered their Asada and Barbacoa tacos and their Barbacoa Torta (they added the onions and jalapeños I wanted upon request). My friend got their Pollo and Barbacoa tacos, and Pollo quesadilla. Impression: the Asada is meaty, slight crisp, and hearty. The guacamole salsa paired really well with this taco. The Barbacoa taco is juicy and savory! Barbacoa in a Torta was an upgrade over the former. My friend said the pollo quesadilla is amazing! The sauces range from no spice (guacamole), mild (verde), spicy (verde), to very spicy (salsa roja). Great range without a sacrifice in flavor! I loved combining the guacamole salsa with a hint of their salsa roja to make new flavor combos. Bottom line: their limited menu choice is advantageous. It goes to show how much they put all of their efforts to these dishes. Also, they have tamales on Mondays/Wednesdays which I unfortunately missed. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with the selection. I can't definitively recommend one over another at this moment; I'd have to come back again in order to do so. Combine it with a beer from Local Oak to make it a party! TL;DR. You can't go wrong with whatever your choice is. Choose what your palate craves, and select the sauce that will compliment your taste buds (unless you're chicken and you can only resort to the guacamole salsa and salsa verde).

On Fridays, we eat tacos…read more Somewhere during the pandemic, my friend group decided we wanted to try birria tacos. We'd heard that there was one place in town where we could get them, which came highly recommended by a friend who'd been here. The caveat was that the birria tacos are only served on Fridays. So we planned to do birria tacos on Friday. We came here and got 4 orders of birria tacos. I added an agua de Jamaica to my order. While we waited, I perused the adjacent grocery store and purchased some Mexican Coca-Colas, conchas, and a box of mango Pulparindo. Soon enough, our order was ready. We took our goodies back to my place, turned on a good movie, and partook in our feast. These tacos are full of flavor. The meat is tender, and the cheese was perfectly melted inside the consome-soaked tortillas. The meal is served with pickled onion and habanero pepper, fresh cilantro and onions, limes, and a house-made hot sauce. Of course, in true birria fashion, there is a cup of hot consome in which to dunk the tacos. The freshness of the condiments perfectly compliments the fatty richness of the tacos. Jamaica is my favorite agua fresca and always reminds me of my favorite Caribbean drink, Sorrel, as they are both made from the hibiscus flower. Though Mexican Agua de Jamaica has a different flavor profile than Sorrel, it always fills me with a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Their Jamaica is delicious and comes in a huge cup, so you always get enough. Since this first visit, we've made taco Fridays a tradition. I always order the birria tacos and agua de Jamaica. I've also tried lots of their other tacos (asada, chicharron, pastor, lengua, etc.) as an add-on to my birria order, but the birria outshines them all. These tacos are absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend adding them to your Friday takeout tradition. Be sure to peruse the pastry case for a fresh dessert to finish your meal and pick up some other treats along the way.
