I loved everything about this restaurant. For one,  Taqueria Tere is a small and quiet atmosphere. They have two seating place indoors and one outdoors seating. The ambience is perfect, with the soft Hispanic music playing in the background. They have traditional Mexican dishes you normally can't get at Americanized Mexican restaurants. I had the regular "Tortas" [submarine sandwiches]. Al Pastor Tortas was what I got. This is a warm "telera" bread [a savoury Mexican bread made with wheat flour] toasted over the grill with your choice of protein, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, queso fresco aka cheese, and crema. My meal was delicious and filling. I also had mango juice to do with my meal. I had an amazing experience, the workers were friendly and the food was amazing! If you're in Winterville, NC, and you are craving some fresh and authentic Mexican food, I recommend stopping by this taco shop. Found them on Yelp for me needing lunch near Ayden. I ordered the Torta (warm sandwich) with chicken because of the beautifully deceiving first picture on Yelp. My sandwich ( I know, should have taken pictures) was literally half that size - if not less. My bread was nowhere near the size of the Yelp picture either. Skimpy ingredients inside only added insult to injury. The sandwich I was served was absolutely, positively not even close to being worth $10 plus dollars. It was a $4 sandwich after hunting for the chicken. I can go to Chipotle and order three times as much food $10-$11 bucks. Utter disappointment. read more

TL;DR at the bottom Finally took long enough for me to stop by (about 2 round trips back to Greenville from Raleigh) this recent and newly opened restaurant in Winterville! When you walk in, it's bright, it's simple, it's straight to the point, "we are here to serve you tacos, tortas, and quesadillas with sauces." I ordered their Asada and Barbacoa tacos and their Barbacoa Torta (they added the onions and jalapeños I wanted upon request). My friend got their Pollo and Barbacoa tacos, and Pollo quesadilla. Impression: the Asada is meaty, slight crisp, and hearty. The guacamole salsa paired really well with this taco. The Barbacoa taco is juicy and savory! Barbacoa in a Torta was an upgrade over the former. My friend said the pollo quesadilla is amazing! The sauces range from no spice (guacamole), mild (verde), spicy (verde), to very spicy (salsa roja). Great range without a sacrifice in flavor! I loved combining the guacamole salsa with a hint of their salsa roja to make new flavor combos. Bottom line: their limited menu choice is advantageous. It goes to show how much they put all of their efforts to these dishes. Also, they have tamales on Mondays/Wednesdays which I unfortunately missed. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with the selection. I can't definitively recommend one over another at this moment; I'd have to come back again in order to do so. Combine it with a beer from Local Oak to make it a party! TL;DR. You can't go wrong with whatever your choice is. Choose what your palate craves, and select the sauce that will compliment your taste buds (unless you're chicken and you can only resort to the guacamole salsa and salsa verde). read more

I had the regular Torta with steak that had a good amount of protein in it and my wife burrito with chicken with a good amount of protein and toppings with sauces on the side which the food overall tasted absolutely great! The price of the food is a fair price for what you get. The ambience is very welcoming, The owners family works there daily though it is a small spot because of location and barely have business but it deserves more attention. A local business can't grow and strive to make good eats unless the community supports its growth so definitely try them out! read more

I was so happy to have found this place. I have moved quite a bit these past few years and there's always a lack of good, authentic Mexican food. But this place is it. Their menu is small (which is good, places with small menus are typically really good at making the item on their menu because it's so specialized) , offering asada, chicken or vegetarian options such as pineapple. We got the asada torta and asada quesadilla. Asada Torta: 5/5 They use an actual telera roll (say what you want but a hoagie roll does not make it a torta) and it's stuffed with meat. We added onion and jalapeños to it. Asada Quesadilla: 5/5 We went for the small quesadilla but they did not skimp on the meat. The meat was well seasoned and tasted good. It also had lettuce and tomato, we added onion and jalapeño as well. They also have authentic aguas frescas (y'all better not dare call it spa water). I got their agua de tamarindo and it brought me back to my abuelitas giant tamarindo tree with a swing on it. Good memories. Mexican restaurants usually skimp on this. They get powdered mixes and pass them off as authentic but this is the real deal, they use actual tamarind and go through the process of making it. My ONLY thing is that their salsas are meh. We had the guacamole salsa, green mild, green spicy and red spicy. They were spicy and had decent flavoring but not the BEST flavor. Having a good tasting salsa will make it next level. But overall, a good experience and good flavors. Will definitely be coming back. read more

These people care about your food. They care about the ingredients, the authenticity and consistency. The menu is simple and everything tastes fresh and delicious. Warning: it may lack a bit of salt for some. For my family it is great. Tortas are my favorite, however, I improve them at home with some string fries sometimes. I only wished they put more cheese on the tortas. Prices are reasonable, good quality food, authentic, clean, fresh, and healthy. Can't go wrong with Taqueria Tere. Taqueria Tere is a wonderful addition to downtown Winterville, and worth travelling to from Greenville as well. Their menu is simple but authentic. They serve tacos with traditional corn flour soft shells, tortas (meat on bun), and quesadillas. I love the quesadilla, my wife always gets tacos, and the kids always split a torta. There are three meats to choose from asada (pork), barbacoa (bbq), and pollo (chicken). They are fast, clean, and very affordable. I recommend their verde sauce. I recently learned they serve tamales on Monday and Wednesday, but sell out early. read more
