On a whim we went to Taqueria El Zarape yesterday for dinner and we were not dissappointed. The tacos were fresh, made with home made tortillas and a salsa that was bright, flavorful and added the perfect seasoning to already delicious food. The menu isn't fussy, it's tacos, and burritos with a few extras. This isn't the most diverse menu but what they do they do extremely well. Don't let the location put you off as this is basically a food truck parked next to a permanent structure. But the interior decor was clean, bright and friendly. And they have a huge oscillating air conditioner so even in the excess of 100 degree temps outside it was cool and refreshing. Definitely a find and if you are a local it should be a must. read more

We stop by here after spending the day at the 390th Memorial Museum. Great food and nice people! My son at the birria torta and he enjoyed it. I had the birria quesadillas with tortillas de maíz and they were so good! Definitely recommend this place. Place was nice and air conditioned! read more

Oh YUP!! First time here and already claiming it as our go-to spot. We ordered a carne asada burrito and carne asada torta--both fantastic and for a great price! This unassuming spot is very clean, has a covered seating area, and a fully stocked salsa bar. Their staff was kind and friendly, patiently answering any questions we had. We loved everything we ordered-- tacos with 4 different meats, Taco Zarape and Carne Asada burrito. First time here and it did not disappoint! Authentic and reasonably priced. The reviews helped a lot in us finding and enjoying this little gem. It was a hot day (100) when we came to place a take out order but the swamp cooler they have set up in the place made it comfortable while we wait for our food to be prepared. These are the hands, anointed by God, to deliver to me the very best burrito I've ever had. In such an unassuming space, I found a burrito perfectly proportioned, meat phenomenally cooked, and tortilla astoundingly exciting the dish. I was a weary and hungry trucker, desolate and acquitted of hope. On a journey to Taco Bell across the street when I saw their flag blowing like a voice crying out in the wilderness. I took heed, for the kingdom of heaven was indeed at hand. The place was unassuming, but wow. I'm bereft of words to describe the food. The food here is delicious and reasonably priced. They have a excellent selection of choices. It is super informal as a food truck with some very simple seating available. The woman who took and filled my order was very pleasant and patient as this was my first time at this place. The location is very unexciting, but the delicious food more than makes up for this. read more

Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!! Let's start by saying that!!!! We have eaten A LOT of Mexican food but this was quit amazing. True authentic Mexican flavors with a homemade salsa bar. The salsa is so fresh, flavorful, and has a nice spice. I was looking for quesabirria tacos which I didn't see on the menu, so I asked and they said they could make it for me. Yay!!! They also gave me the consommé to dip into! Their corn tortillas are hand made!!! I could see the lady using the press and make them! We also got a taco Zarpe (something like that). Oh wow! Sautéed onions, roasted poblanos and jalapeño, chorizo, and carne asada, with melted cheese on top of a hand made giant tortilla. I promise you won't be disappointed!!!! As an AZ native, I've had my share of tacos and birria. The food here was top tier. I couldn't get enough of the salsas and guac sauce. The staff was very friendly as they took my to go order. I wouldn't have minded staying in the seating area to eat. It was well shaded and cool enough to sit and wait. Wish I had taken a picture. Very nice looking plates of food. read more

My husband often comes out to this area to get truck repairs done nearby and just happened to stop here the last time he was getting his truck repaired. He was telling me about this place and how good it was, but I dismissively didn't think much of what he was saying.... then one night he said "we have to drive over there" and I let him drag me along because it's about a 30 min drive from where we live. But let me tell you. This was by far, the best meal I have had in quite a long time. It brought tears to my eyes. I was totally speechless and blown away. This truck is tucked away just off I-10 and totally overlooked because it is just behind the TTT. The space they have created for this little truck is so nice, they have built a patio-type setting around it with seating and cover for shade/weather protection. My husband has pronounced that this is the only Birria in Tucson that matters. I would have to agree. I can't wait to go again. read more

Parked my truck at the truckstop across the street and saw this place and so glad I stopped. Great taco stand! Good came incredibly fast, owners were incredibly friendly, and the little litter seating area with the Christmas lights was a nice touch. I come from Houston, so there are plenty of choices where I'm from, but their carne asada burrito topped them all. My only regret was not having a bigger appetite to try the quesabirria tacos, but they look incredible too! read more

I went there for the birria. (First issue) The guy that took my order charge me one price but after I waited for my food, he said he made a mistake and the food cost more! I got my order to go. On my way home I looked at what I got for $11. It was three soft tacos and the meat looked like pork. I actually turned around, went back and asked if they gave me the wrong order. I was told it was birria. (Second issue) When I got home to eat, it was some of the most flavorless Mexican meat I've ever eaten. I will not be going here again and if anyone asked, I'd tell them not to go. read more
