I've been going to Taqueria Isabel for several years now. This the kind of place you REALLY want to find, as you might not even realize that it's here! The food here is up there with the best Mexican street food I've ever had -- maybe #2 for me! I usually get 3 tacos with different meats. You can have up to 2 different kinds of meat with a 3-taco order. I've had the carnitas, the carne azada, the chicken, the pastor, and the camarón. Everything is great, exactly as you'd want from street tacos. I've also had the quesadilla which is cheesy and crispy brown on the outside. Depending on who is there, you might need a little bit of Spanish, but they have always been patient with me, and I with them. Sometimes it's all English. Needing to speak a mix is a small price to pay for such delicious food, so don't worry about it! Thank you so much for such great food over the years! I have been coming here for years and this is one of the best places to get street tacos! I remembered when this place had a smaller plain white truck and just this year they slowly expanded for a bigger bright orange food truck with more food choices! They used to have $1 tacos night on Wednesday but unfortunately, they decided to stop doing that promotion. I usually just get their street tacos and it always tasty and fresh. The workers may not speak in English, but that's how you know the food is authentic. The tortilla wasn't dry and the asada was flavorful. We got three different types of tacos...tripa, lengua and al pastor. Al pastor was perfect. Tripa was good but a little tough/chewy. I have to agree with the previous review on the lengua. Feeling a bit peckish and in the mood for some cheap Mexican food, I swung into the auto dealership parking lot where Taqueria Isabel is located on a whim. The unorthodox location only adds to the down-to-earth charm of Taqueria Isabel. At the counter a sweet older woman asked me what I'd like to order. With the full menu tacos painted on the side of the truck, it made selection easy. I ordered a pollo adobado and a carnitas taco. Five minutes and four dollars later my two tacos were freshly packed into an unfortunately not eco-friendly styrofoam container inside a plastic bag. Best tacos I've had in Richmond. These are simple, street style tacos like you can get Mexico. After going several times in the past few months, the quality and flavor is always consistent. Tacos are served out of a trailer parked in a used car lot. There are a couple benches where you can eat or take them home. I've tried chorizo, carne asada, el pastor and carnitas. All are delicious but chorizo is my favorite. All tacos are served on corn tortillas with onion, cilantro, lime and salsa verde. Do yourself a favor and try this place. read more

I'm giving 4 stars, because that's the option. 3 would be too low, in my opinion, but Taqueria Isabel is a solid 3.5. It should be noted CASH ONLY! I don't fault them or deduct stars for that, but it's something I wish I'd known before I was searching for loose change in my car seats. I'm not even deducting stars for the complete lack of mask wearing by anyone in the trailer, even though I probably should. My 3.5 is based on the food alone. Service was quick and friendly, portions were generous, but the flavor was...... missing. We ordered tacos, 4 types, and not even the chorizo had any spice/flavor to it. The best was probably the lengua, because it's usually not an overly seasoned option. All the meats were well cooked, especially the lengua and I thought both the green and red sauces were good. However, even with the sauces and lime, I was still looking for some taste. I cook 98% of my own meals, so when I do go out I'm usually struck by food being over seasoned and over salted. So if I think it's bland, it's probably very bland to people who eat restaurant food on the regular. Even the tortillas, just doughy, no discernable corn flavor. Maybe I caught an off day? I'd give them another chance, but only after I work my way through a few more taquerias. read more
