Went to pickup dinner ordered $40 worth of food. Came home and notice this black meat on my tacos, tortas and burrito. I went back and told the owner and he said that's the way they cook their meat. There is no way they could sell their meat like this! Owner was so rude he didn't even offer to re make my food and didn't even want to give me a refund! I told him I bought from La Mexicana before and their meat is way better he told me "we'll go buy from La Mexicana instead" I will never be returning here again! read more

I agree about how authentic this food is. I ordered the Tamale Dinner. It's my go-to whenever I'm trying out a Mexican restaurant. And NO, they didn't pour melted cheese over the top, thank goodness! I got to try my first Michalada here and definitely liked it a LOT! The service was good and the place felt nice and homey. Would love to make it back here. read more

I went here on my visit to my hometown. I used to eat here a lot as a kid. I have tried Mexican food all over the US and honestly, nothing can do it like mid -west Mexican food. This place tasted so good even my fiancé from California thought it was amazing. I wouldn't listen to anyone who thought it didn't taste good in these reviews because it really is very good authentic Mexican food unlike the gringo-fied mexican places I seem to experience. A lot of Mexican food I eat in other places barely season anything and its more fatty and greasy, the frijoles are tasteless. This place had the most flavor as well as high quality tortillas. The beans are very flavorful and well seasoned. The meat though, that was the winner. My struggle with a lot of mexican food is underseasoned meat. This meat is marinated so throughly the food explodes in flavor. The service was fine, they seemed a lot more quiet and straight to the point but there isn't really a problem with that, you get your food and go! I highly reccomend it. I came from out of town and I don't speak a lot of spanish but if you can try your best you'll defintely get something good. This place has been open for so long. I hope sometime soon when I visit here, I could eat here again. read more

Was once my favorite restaurant but the quality had gone down! I know it's family owned and three owners are nice but there new staff is horrible! I came in for pick up and no one said hello can I help you nothing... I finally was able to pick up and pay for my food and still nothing the two girls just continued to chat about their tips no thank you no have a good day not even bye SMH Sorry but I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

4/26/2016 This is for the owner and his workers: My girlfriend walked in to get some food for dinner, she order 2 tortas, 1 steak and one was to be pull beef as the girl told my girlfriend. How is it that out of 2 workers, one says one thing: salsa is free on the house, another girl says another things and tried to charge us for on the house salsa. I think the owner needs to make sure their staff is up to date on menu, what what to and not to charge for, so all employees are on the same page. Also this helps with when a customer asks a question and that we do not get an i do not know answer. As long as I have been having Hispanic food and making it myself, I have never heard of pulled beef on a torta, maybe pulled pork and so on. On our order was as well guacamole. and on the side there was a request for hot sauce. The the cashier rings up the order and almost charged for the salsa(which in opinion is not salsa as in Spanish it means hot sauce.) Sadly the dialec may be a bit off, because in most Hispanic restaurants when you ask for salsa you may get pico de gallo, a salsa with habernero or jalepanos and etc. mixed in a blender to form a salsa, but the salsa we were served was like the same thing pepe's does where it smells like a tomato soup, and is plain. The torta, I have to say for the first time never had one with ground beef, like stated earlier we were told it was pulled beef, it was ground beef period. I did not care for the ground beef they prepared, but the steak torta tasted ok, only issue is more gristle than mean. This place is in the kennedy ave. area, tried this place back on 4/26/2016 happen to see my review needed to be edited and updated. I will say we will never go back to this place, the food is just not authentic as they claim it to be. read more

Not really good. This was my first time at this place and I order tacos because every Mexican restaurant should be judged by the tacos. Meat was really dry and overcooked and bland. I think you are better off at chipotle. But waitress was nice. They should focus on quality not quantity, that's probably why there was nobody there. read more

I loved it. The waitress was great and so was the food! I am a big fan of lengua and have a problem with restaurants that advertise it and then don't have it. This lengua was excellent. I left there full and happy. My only complaint is that they did not carry pepsi products. This will be my mexican go to in Hammond unless I find something else even close and I am by-passing quite a few mexican food establishments between 147th and Calumet and this one on Kennedy so technically with what I have tried in between, I ain't even lookin'. read more

The tacos here are not so good meat had no flavor and they loaded it with onion I also tried a caldo de pollo chicken soup what a mistake that was only thing I liked was the orchata. read more

Passed this place many times and finally stopped.......well worth the stop. EVERYTHING is good,,,,,especially the beans.....like heaven on earth. Only dislike....parking.....wish they had a lot to park in BUT don't let that stop you. On my way there now for some beans for my chips. They have FACEBOOK SPECIALS also so check those. VERY ROOMY.....not elbow to elbow.....a number of large tables for larger parties.
