Taqueria my Ranchito is located in a rather nondescript just off of Interstate 75. I pulled in and found it to be in a rather nondescript shopping plaza, but that is fine. I have found in my travels that the best Mexican food comes from these humble little mom-and-pop type hole-in-the-wall establishments rather than at a place with a strong emphasis on ambiance and vibe. The service here was friendly enough, but a little slow. I ended up going with three tacos and a gordita. I will say that this restaurant pits lettuce on their tacos, as well as the usual cilantro and onion. Be advised that the tacos and the gordita did not have pricing and when my bill came, it was just under seventeen dollars. This is a bit steep, but it is what it is. The proteins that I went with (carne asada, carnitas, and chorizo) were a bit underseasoned and needed the sauce it came with for flavor. If I return here, I would give a burrito a try instead of getting the tacos or the gordita again. Still, not a bad place. read more

This is the Best Mexican restaurant in town. The personnel, the friendly service, the atmosphere. You can't beat the taste of the food. Every dish we have tried has that mexican home taste. The place has been redecorated and cleaned up beautifully! The music was very loud but I did ask if they could turn it down and they were happy too. We ate lunch here after a year of driving by and seeing how busy it is. Today it was packed but we still only had a 5 minute wait. All the servers were helpful and very friendly. Much smaller and with a more limited menu than La Hacienda down the road, this restaurant nonetheless is very authentic and welcoming. It looks a bit worn-down inside and you can tell it's a family operation that has been around quite some time, but the staff are friendly and prompt and the food is very authentic. Indeed, you probably will see mostly if not totally Mexican-American families dining here. Their chips aren't as good as La Hacienda's but they do make a hot salsa that is great, especially to add into some dishes (as opposed to for dipping chips) and their enchiladas rojas are near-perfect, with a red sauce that is just sweet enough and balances out all the other flavors of the enchiladas. Their tacos pastor I found also to be very good--more of the street-vendor taco taste than any I've had in a sit-down restaurant. All that said, I probably will frequent La Hacienda more, mostly because of their awesome Mexican seafood dishes and broader variety in general plus their out-of-this-world salsas. Still, it's very nice to know there's another great Mexican restaurant less than a block down Highway 40 West. read more

On our way down to Ybor we were on the hut for a non fast food restaurant to try. With a strong love for tacos my husband found Taqueria My Ranchito right off the highway. The restaurant was clean and appeared authentic. The menu had authentic Mexican food and also included a small market. My husband and I had to try the tacos. I ordered chorizo and pork. He ordered the same plus steak. As we waited for our tacos out came complementary chips and salsa. The salsa lacked flavor. The chips needed more salt. I was starting to get nervous about our tacos. When our tacos came out they looked delicious and a good size. Our disappointment from the chips and salsa was quickly replaced once we both had our first bite. We scarfed down our five tacos and we were very pleased. The best part was for five tacos our bill was seven dollars and change!!! $7!! Can't beat that! read more

In one word, terrible, absolutely terrible. Where do I even begin? Brought chips and salsa, literally a handful of chips and a quarter cup of salsa which was pathetic excuse for salsa. Could they spare it really? Then we ordered a margarita and a water with lemon. FINALLY after a good wait got our drinks. The margarita was small, little to no alcohol. Didnt get the lemon for the water. Placed our order and after 40 minutes had to flag down a different waitress to inform them we had been waiting a long time for our meal. We were starving! Rice was yellow and no taste whatsoever. All in all, I still managed to find it in me to leave a tip. Don't waste your time if you want good mexican. read more

Only tried the carnitas tacos (to go), and they were excellent. The pork was cooked when I ordered them, it was hot, tender, juicy, and delicious. The tortillas were great as well.
