We checked out the historic district but, teeming multitudes of perfume stores and money exchange places, the area lacked any charm whatsoever. It actually felt like we were in Mexico. When we checked into our hotel, we asked the lady at the front desk for lunch recommendations and things to do. She couldn't recommend anything to see in the area but suggested Palenque Grill for lunch, which was on our list of possibles. Palenque Grill, located just off I-35, is quite spacious. We were seated immediately and served some warm and crispy tortilla chips with various sauces...loved them all but I preferred the spicy salsa while my wife loved the bean dip. My wife ordered the Pechuga de Pollo ($19) and I tried their Puntas de Filete ($21). My wife was surprised at how flavorful the chicken was, although she thought the veggies were overcooked. I liked the flavor of tender beef tips in that savory sauce. Loved the freshly made flour and corn tortillas. All in all, a good lunch option, albeit perhaps not the best value around. Not your typical Tex-Mex. Service was very attentive and friendly. Lunch for 2 came out to just over $55 with tip.
