When on vacation, I love to find local, authentic cuisine and one of the things we really wanted to eat was some tacos! Luckily, Taquerías El Ñero was a quick taxi ride from our resort. These tacos are incredibly fairly priced, and luckily so because I recommend trying as many meats as your stomach can handle, ranging around $20-$30 pesos or about $1-2 USD. I tried the tripa, al pastor, and one other beef one and I loved all three, but my favorite was the tripa. It was so flavorful and crispy! I wish I ordered two or three of those, but it was good to try a variety. Just a heads up, the salsa was SUPER spicy and if you're a tourist who doesn't speak Spanish, they've got you covered with some English-speaking staff. I've tried many taquerias around here and these happen to be one of my favorite. The meat was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. I loved the tortillas too. It wasn't too thick and it had the right texture. The salsas were perfection. They had little spicy all the way to habanero spicy. Each taco was between $19-$25 pesos or about $1-2 usd each. Very affordable and more authentic compared to the tacos spots I went to at 5th avenue. This place is packed but we were seated right away. The workers are nice and friendly. Escape the tourist traps and eat here. I ate a lot of tacos during my 11 day Riviera Maya roadtrip and these are definitely in the top! Unfortunately my friend and I arrived late in the evening when they were close to closing, so they only had the Suadero and Asada left out of the 13 types that they have; however, the Suadero was so delicious! Super tender and soft pulled pork, with a generous topping of onions and cilantro on spicy salsa. The best part, each taco was only 15 pesos! My tour guide from Alltournative told me about this place and vote it as his best street food place. So I came to check it out and feel so happy I did! It's truly a good street food place serving only taco with several options. I got beef tongue (lengua) taco, beef cheeks (cachete) taco, chorizo taco and beef flank mix with chorizo (campechano) taco. The cachete is super tender and delicious! Lengua taco has big piece instead of small chunky pieces as I used to have. I like the lengua but it could be fried a bit more. Chorizo in here is the best among all places I have been to. Each taco only cost 15 peso and each drink is 17 peso. Really good deal for a quick meal. However, they are not really good with English so it's better to order in Spanish. Just listen to Pitbull, uno dos tres... jk. They also dont take USD and we were 14 peso under, so we have to run across the street to buy a drink for peso exchange. If I could work remotely, I would stay here and come to this place every day. read more

If you're thinking of going to eat on 5th Ave. do yourself a favour and just walk the 10 minutes up to 45th to visit Ñeros for some authentic food instead. This place was recommended to us by a tour guide from Alltournative the other day and we finally decided to give it a try. They have around 8 or 9 different tacos to choose from and all of them are just 15 pesos! I can attest that nearly all of them were some of the best tacos we've had in Playa del Carmen. Favourites included the chorizo, lengua (beef tongue), cachete (beef cheek) and campechano (mixed pork and steak). Its a pretty casual place and has a 'street food' like atmosphere, so when you arrive just grab yourself a table and a server will be right with you to bring some fresh cucumber and radish and sauteed onions. Each table is set with an array of green and red salsas, but be careful because they aren't messing around with the heat. Servers were incredibly friendly, fast and helpful. Our entire meal took probably 15 minutes from sitting down to paying. One thing to keep in mind is that they only take pesos, so make sure you have enough, or be prepared to run to the nearby Oxxo to get change. For less than 10 USD we were able to stuff ourselves with more tacos than we could finish along with refeshments, incredible value for your money. I'd highly recommend stopping by at least once for anyone visiting downtown Playa del Carmen, we'll probably be back before our trip ends read more

YUM! Definitely my definition of authentic tacos in Mexico! They have all of the odd meats including but limited to lengua, cabeza, suadero, tripas, etc and they were all done well! A little bit off of the super touristy area but well worth the adventure. Each taco was $12-$15 pesos which is $0.66-$0.83 USD. I think this by far have been one of the best tacos I have ever had in a while. I got 3 asada, 1 Al pastor and the 2 tacos capenchanos. You have to try the taco capechanos by far one of the best! These taco were sooo good. One of our tour guides, manny from our free walking tour of playa recommended this place. I am so glad we went!!!! Delicious, we had chorizo, bistek, and al pastor. All were good but the alpastor was so flavorful, that was our favorite. We will be back tomorrow. The salsas, limon y cebollitas really topped everything off very well. Truly delicious!!! The aguas frescas came in used water bottles, that was a little weird but next time ill order a soda which comes in the recycled glass bottles, which is normal and I would feel more comfortable with. The agua did taste really good. The limon with chia was our favorite. We also had the tamarindo but it was just ok. Best way to get here is walk from the tourist area or get a taxi. We drove and parked at a local grocery store since their parking is very small. Please be careful in this area its very busy!! Lots of cars, bike, motorcycles and pedestrians. Nice selection of sauces that are already on the table. The staff is great and I had a great time there. However, if you prefer tourist aimed restaurants that are polished, you most likely wouldn't like the ambience here. It's less polished and very more focused on the food than the decorations. Best taco stand on our way to the hotel from the airport. Service is quick. We got 7 tacos and 2 drinks for about $5! Can't beat that! There is plenty of sitting area. I would highly recommend it if you are hungry and enroute elsewhere. By the way, watch out for the green salsa that looks like guacamole... it's spicy! Been there two nights in a row! The Tacos are definitely 5 stars! 15 pesos for each taco, with a generous amount in meat of choice and double tortilla. Drinks are 17 pesos and desserts are 25 pesos. You will definitely eat cheap no matter the party size and the Tacos are very delicious. Now, the biggest and only downside (in my opinion) is the very poor customer service. The guys working there are very nice, however, there is an extreme lack of organization skills between their team. This means, you may be missing some Tacos or have a delay in receiving tacos. Also, It has been a hit or miss with the meats they have "available" as well, but on the bright side they have a variety of about 10 meats. Overall, I would say the the tasty inexpensive tacos compensate for the lack of organization. read more
