Vaqueros Mexican Grille - The only vegetables served with the unseasoned sandbox dry fajita meat. Literally a plate of onions with grey dry meat. Nasty.

This time was worse and unfortunately I brought company. We got seated and ordered drinks. Then we ordered breaded shrimp and a fajita plate. Some time went by and people that were seated 10min after us nearby got their food before us. Our large drinks were practically empty. Right as we were about to get up and leave the food "started to arrive". Our shrimp and rice were cold. Our fajitas sides came out yet the meat/peppers still on the way. Fajitas are one of the FASTEST things that a Mexican restaurant can deliver... sometimes as fast as 10 minutes. Anyway... the cold seafood was a deal breaker. We got out of our seats, I laid down just enough cash to maybe cover the drinks, and we were out the door. This is only the third time we have had to walk out of a restaurant before our meal was delivered completely. That should tell you something. Besides all that... the lighting in there sucks. The lights are hospital bright daylight and not good for a dining experience. And to the owner of the restaurant reading this... before you post a reply to this... maybe check out other places and take notes. Not the 10 other places on North Oak though. Go to Ponaks, Los Corrals, Manny's, Dos Reales, and maybe LaCosta Mexicana. They are good inspiration for dining atmosphere. The length of our review is the measure of how mad we were to march out of your restaurant hungry. And yes... so mad that I going to C&P this.

The inside of the restaurant is classic industrial, cozy, super casual, and has a fun upbeat vibe. Everyone serving in the restaurant at all different levels is very kind and friendly. When we sat down, we were brought the typical basket of tortilla chips, along with their homemade salsa... And an extra surprise was there Mini bowl of queso dip. It was creamy and yummy. The salsa wasn't as spicy as we prefer, but it was decent. Our sever took our drink rider which were margaritas. They have a very long list of all types of flavors of margaritas... Are you in the mood, this is a place to go! They also offer three different sizes in the margaritas, plus a ton of other drinks as they have a very large bar. It was a Saturday night, so It was pretty crowded, but there was not a wait for a table. Our waitress brought back our margaritas, but it took her over 35 minutes to get to our table to even take our dinner order. At least they brought us three baskets of chips to hold us over! After a little over a half hour, she came back to our table and asked us if we were still waiting for our food... We explained to her that she never actually took our dinner order to begin with. We ordered street tacos and jalepeno cream cheese ans chicken enchiladas... black beans and rice. Everything was tasty. We were starving at this point because it was almost an hour when our food arrived. She apologized for forgetting about us in between the tables served before us... It was worth it... however, we will order for take out next time. Waiting at our table and having 30 min between a margarita and a meal was too long for our liking.

We took advantage of the weather and sat outside. The wind was a bit much, but the ambiance was great. From the chips and salsa to start, the server was super attentive and friendly. We started with some aguas frescas and a coconut flavor margarita -- all on point! I had the birria tacos and they were so delicious. Didn't feel greasy, and that chipotle? Delicioso! We also tried the Street Tacos with carnitas and the Shrimp Fajitas Special. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the servings were great in size. Almost picture perfect, but some pictures weren't as good as the food we had. We finished with dessert. As moms out with no kids, we got both desserts offered to try them. The tres leches was good, not awesome in our opinion, but my friend who ordered it makes a mean tres leches so we're critical. The churros I think were awesome -- perfect portion too! We had a blast! It's been recommended for date night too, and I'm already planning to go back with my husband.

The food was okay overall, just not quite my personal favorite. We tried the margarita and the pepino mint; unfortunately, the drinks weren't really for me and tasted a bit like a premade mix, and the pepino mint didn't quite hit the mark. One small issue was that our utensils weren't clean at first, but the staff quickly replaced them when we asked, which we appreciated. Overall, it was a pleasant experience thanks to the great service and vibe, even though the food and drinks weren't exactly my taste. We probably won't come back but glad we tried it!
