Late May 2026. Ok. This was my second time eating there. My first was right after they took over from Mi Ranchitos. That time was mediocre. This time was worse and unfortunately I brought company. We got seated and ordered drinks. Then we ordered breaded shrimp and a fajita plate. Some time went by and people that were seated 10min after us nearby got their food before us. Our large drinks were practically empty. Right as we were about to get up and leave the food "started to arrive". Our shrimp and rice were cold. Our fajitas sides came out yet the meat/peppers still on the way. Fajitas are one of the FASTEST things that a Mexican restaurant can deliver... sometimes as fast as 10 minutes. Anyway... the cold seafood was a deal breaker. We got out of our seats, I laid down just enough cash to maybe cover the drinks, and we were out the door. This is only the third time we have had to walk out of a restaurant before our meal was delivered completely. That should tell you something. Besides all that... the lighting in there sucks. The lights are hospital bright daylight and not good for a dining experience. And to the owner of the restaurant reading this... before you post a reply to this... maybe check out other places and take notes. Not the 10 other places on North Oak though. Go to Ponaks, Los Corrals, Manny's, Dos Reales, and maybe LaCosta Mexicana. They are good inspiration for dining atmosphere. We went here today for the first time since ownership and name change, now Vaqueros Mexican Grill. The food was really good, salsa tasted great, staff were very friendly and it was nice and clean inside. Hubby had the number 1 which was a ground beef burrito, cheese enchilada, beans and rice and a barbacoa crunchy taco. I had the chiquito sampler which had beef nachos, quesadillas, taquitos and flautas. it was all good. We also had the best house margarita we have had in a long time. I had to drop my vehicle off down the street and ate here for lunch while waiting. I've eaten at this location before and have gotten mixed reviews. I ordered my food with chicken, add zucchini and no lettuce (I'm allergic to the lettuce). When I got my plate, lettuce was on it so I sent it back. Then when it came back, it was a steak burrito. Not a big fan that I had to send it back the first time but the second time was even irritating. I assume these mistakes happen because the servers assume they don't need to take down the order in the slightest amount, then they forget the details by the time they put the order into the kitchen. My issue with this is that the waitress didn't take blame for it and blamed it on her kitchen both times and never offered any money off the bill for the problems. Because of the waitress's lack of responsibility and that there was more than one error, I gave them three stars. I Absolutely love this place!! So much so that I try to keep it a secret from most people lol. There's a real authentic feel here and you can tell they put their heart and soul into every dish. The entire place from the workers to the decor to the music makes you feel at home. Mi Ranchito now is called Vaqueros. I'm not sure what has occurred, but it is not for the better. Our service has always been good until now. I'm sure I sound like a crabby old person but first they sat us near a door that the staff uses to go outside and it was sleeting so we got a freezing blast every time the door openers. We asked to move and our waitress was very understanding and moved us. We ordered an appetizer and the chips that came were burned, which has never happened before. We didn't say anything but when other chips came, they were fine. We had a hard time getting the waitress's attention and the restaurant was not busy at all. I ordered the margarita flight, which I thought would be small glasses of each kind, but instead received a tower of margaritas. It was way too much for me to drink and I wished I had not ordered it. We have patronized Mi Ranchito ever since they opened, and we will continue to do so. The food is good, and the prices fair. Up until tonight's dinner service has been good. However, tonight, not so much. My wife and I would come here about once a week because it's only 5 minutes from our house. They recently updated the style of their menu which included price increases. However the quality of the food did not increase with that. We enjoyed this place because it was close and decently priced, however paying $11 for a bean burrito (which is literally just refried beans and a tortilla) is kinda wild. Paying $50 (before a tip) is pretty typically for a party of two nowadays, but not for a bean burrito, one margarita and an enchilada plate lol. We went Friday, October 4th to find it was the first day of new management and menu. And it had changed a lot. Lunch menu was 6 items only and the one we tried was bland and mostly a plate of tasteless rice. Regular dinner menu was very "upscale" with prices increased about 20%. My regular quesadilla that used to be about $8 was $16 but that was the most change upward we found. Chips used to be thin and hot and housemade but these seemed to be taken out of a bag. We've been dining at Mi Ranchito for nearly 20 years. Started in Lenexa at the 95th & Pflumn location for dinner near home & Olathe on 119th for lunch near the office, and switched to North Oak when we moved to the Northland. The staff is always super nice and we've never had bad service that I can remember in that time. The food always comes out piping hot. I used to order the Jalisco Chimichanga all the time, but my new favorite is the La Crema Chimichanga. A very typical Texas style Mexican restaurant with bright, vibrant, colors and fake parrots hanging all over the place. Service was good and fast, I'm pretty sure our waiter refilled our chips 6 times. Addictingggggg. We started with some margs- one of the best peach marg I've ever had- then we had the cheese dip with peppers and spinach in it. This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in town! The chimichangas are SO GOOD and I love the salsa. The chips are light and delicate with just the right amount of crunch! Great place to visit for your birthday as they give you a sombrero! The margaritas are also delightful! Went in for quick dinner but the wait time was almost 30-40 mins firstly when they mentioned 15. Ordered their "chicken fajita quesadillas" which was real dry and we had to overload it with salsa and sour cream. For main course we ordered the " Fajita Con Queso Enchiladas" with the rich queso making it really appetizing & "Jalisco Chimichanga" which was crispy and flavorful. We just tried to visit Mi Ranchito for the first time and unfortunately didn't even get to try the drinks or food because no one ever greeted our table. Before we were sat, we were put on a 10 minute wait, then asked if we minded a table (which we didn't), and were sat at a table in a less busy section than the rest of the restaurant. After over 10 minutes and watching three tables who were sat after us all get drinks, receive appetizers, and place their orders, we called it. Such a bummer since it smelled delicious. read more

Not sure what I did or who I pissed off. My best guess is they thought I was someone else. I did a pick up order. I went here semi regularly but I don't think often enough to be recognized. My best guess is that they thought I was someone else. I always over tip. I pick up the food but tip as if I was eating there. They blatantly ignored me for over 45 minutes at the bar. Would have left but I have a pregnant wife with a craving for this place. They helped people around me and would walk off when I would say "excuse me" to get their attention. I noticed them answering the phone and was still confused and trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. So I called... from the bar... 8 times. They never answered. It wasn't too busy and was a week night. The bartender had full conversations with people but didn't seem to hear or see me. A regular at the bar started to get confused and try to flag someone down for me. Eventually they must have wanted me to leave because a random busser brought the food and was really short with me. Might have been closer to an hour and a half in total. I used to work in the service industry. I go above and beyond to be polite, considerate, kind, and patient. I'm really confused and have never been this insulted for no reason at all. Great job, I changed my five star review and will always be fast to talk down on this business to people. read more

I've had this place twice now, once a few years ago inside and tonight delivered and both times were terrible bland unseasoned steamed fajita veggies and extremely dry chicken. Fajitas should always be seasoned and cooked on cast iron to caramelize onions. read more

I cant believe Im even giving this restaurant a 1 star, it should be 0 star ( feel like being nice) haha We ate there on Tuesday evening around 4pm Buser i guess came over to give us chips, no one else came over to great us or to say we will be right with you. Until I had to flag one of the girls that I knew if we could get some service, a guy came over to let us know that our server was not there and she was on the way in, and she would take care of us when she got here( why couldn't he couldn't just started us with adult Beverage & order it and transfer it when she got there. She must've been running late. She came over the table to bring us a margarita after us, waiting now a total of almost 15 minutes. She proceeded to take her order with the smile on her face. I ordered my food and I cannot eat onions, and I asked her if I took the onions off and I could sub bell peppers, she turned around and walked away, never said yes we will be more than happy to do this for you. My food arrived the way I ordered it. She placed it on the table and walked away immediately never asked if everything looked good or she could get us anything else she didn't even ask my husband if he wanted another margarita we never saw the server the rest the time we were there. We had to ask another server for our ticket. She came running never gave it to us, rang It never said thank you and by the way, she never even offered us any appetizers or any dessert? She got a big fat zero from me on tip, I will not be returning to this restaurant The worst service ever. Never crack a smile. Maybe she was having a bad day who knows. My first time coming here was not that long after they first had opened. I came on my lunch break, so I only had about a 30 minute window to wait and eat my meal. I ordered fajita nachos and it took them longer than I expected to bring my food out. When they finally brought my food out, it was the wrong thing. They brought me out a quesadilla instead. I told them that the order was wrong, so they took it back and said they would fix it. Since it was taking a while for my food to come out, I just told them to box up to-go in order for me to make it back to work in time. They brought me out 2 containers, so I paid and went back to work. When I got to work and opened the containers, I realized that they had got my order wrong again! They gave me nacho chips with cheese and jalapenos. The also gave me another container with pico de gallo, lettuce and sour cream. No where in the container did I have fajita veggies. I went back again after that and ordered the quesadillas, and they turned out to be pretty good. However, they were pretty sloppy to eat. This place is more like Tex-Mex than Mexican food, so if you want Mexican I recommend trying somewhere else. read more
