We booked reservations for this place for a work dinner and I was eagerly waiting to try it out…read more We ended up getting here a bit early and tried some amazing cocktails. I tried a cocktail that the bartender recommended and wow did it pack some flavor. We wanted to try all the tostadas and flavor, so we ordered the watermelon salad, beef toungue tostada, the scallops and the Cacio e Pepe tacos and man were we buzzing from all the flavors. We were all very full, but we had to try the churro dessert. I will say this place is very much captivating with decor, the flavors and the service. It's a must try if you're a foodie.

We know Mexican food, having traveled extensively throughout Mexico since the 1980s. Mexico City is a frequent destination now that we're older, and hopping around the country isn't as easy. The many dishes we tasted at Colita were bland and lacked the explosion of flavors of authentic Mexican regional cuisine. Go to Oaxaca, and your taste buds will be blown away. Service was cold and perfunctory. We sat at the bar on this Sunday evening in August, and the female server was decidedly corporate, casting humanity aside for a robotic affect, half listening and half uninterested. Fun was vacuumed out of the room. Colita was not designed for laughter and frivolity. The place was crowded, but this was a restrained crowd on a Sunday night. Colita was more Linden Hills than Kingfield, if you know what I mean. Our favorite dish was the carnitas tacos. They had the flavors of Mexico. Our check was Minneapolis high, usually worth it, but maybe not at Colita. It was our last night living in the lakes area before we move to the North Loop. Colita was a good choice to remind us why we're moving. However, it was the wrong choice for a celebratory evening.

When we went in, it was completely dead, which should have been a sign, but I figured it was Super Bowl Sunday. I will say, the Michelada was delicious - if you haven't had one before, it's like a bloody Mary made with beer (I recommend Pacifico) instead of vodka. This place has the most variety of Micheladas I've ever seen, and I will admit it was delicious - the added shrimp was a bonus. However, the waters were slow to be refilled, and it's not great since this is a salty type drink. However, there were no obligatory chips and salsa, but when we ordered the nachos, we were also not offered salsa, but I made sure to ask anyway. While they weren't bad and the portion was just right, the ground beef was extra greasy, and it made the chips a little soggy. Next, I ordered the chimichanga to be on the safe side, and had ordered it with ground beef before the nachos came out. Of course, it came out greasy again, and without salsa. The cheese was at least good, if the overall dish was a little bland. I think I'd go back for drinks, but I'm not confident about much more.
