It's Taco Tuesday and I was craving Mexican food, but I didn't just wanna go to the type of place…read moreyou think of when "Mexican" is brought up... I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend... Like you're downtown somewhere. In conclusion, I loved this place and I will come back over and over. Check this place out the next time you're in the area!

The Tostadas (one order of the Tuna and one order of the Charred Eggplant) were on point. The shrimp tacos and corn elote were yummy too. The Churros were amazing! - A great way to cap off a nice meal. Lucky to have such a great restaurant so close to where we live - my best friend and I both walked to the restaurant because of the snow.

Every time I visit La Costa, I have to get the chips and queso dip. La Costa offers Blanco and Nacho Cheese queso, but I wouldn't know about the Nacho because my heart and soul belong to Blanco. It is, without exaggeration, the best queso in the area. Their chips are also seasoned perfectly! For drinks, I used to ride hard for the Vallarta Margarita because cucumber margs are my favorite. But at La Costa, it's just a tad too spicy for my taste, not that it stopped me from ordering it repeatedly. Then I met the Mangonada Margarita. I am not usually a blended margarita girly, but this one is creamy, smooth, and somehow doesn't require the lung strength of a competitive swimmer to drink through a straw. As for food, I've eaten my way through a decent chunk of the menu. Some highlights are the Fish Tacos, the Ceviche, the Mole Enchiladas, and the Chimichanga. I tried the Camarones A La Costa recently and while they were good, I'm loyal to other dishes on the menu. The mole enchiladas pack heat. The mole sauce sits right at the edge of my maximum spice tolerance (which honestly isn't much). Still, I get them from time to time because they are so good. My husband, who loves spice, thinks they're incredible. The fish tacos are mild but flavorful. The ceviche is also a must if you love seafood. Today I grabbed the chicken chimichanga to go, and they absolutely stuffed this thing with chicken and rice. They also gave me a fat cup of queso on the side, which I deeply respect. I skipped the beans and doubled up on rice. 10/10, would do it again. La Costa stays on my rotation for a reason.

La Costa is always a great choice. The shrimp ceviche is perfectly portioned and made with really…read morefresh ingredients--you can taste the quality. The chips are well-seasoned and pair great with everything. Service is consistently excellent, with friendly and attentive staff. The only thing to note is that it can get pretty loud inside with the music, but overall it's a fun, lively atmosphere and a place I'm always happy to come back to.

When we went in, it was completely dead, which should have been a sign, but I figured it was Super Bowl Sunday. I will say, the Michelada was delicious - if you haven't had one before, it's like a bloody Mary made with beer (I recommend Pacifico) instead of vodka. This place has the most variety of Micheladas I've ever seen, and I will admit it was delicious - the added shrimp was a bonus. However, the waters were slow to be refilled, and it's not great since this is a salty type drink. However, there were no obligatory chips and salsa, but when we ordered the nachos, we were also not offered salsa, but I made sure to ask anyway. While they weren't bad and the portion was just right, the ground beef was extra greasy, and it made the chips a little soggy. Next, I ordered the chimichanga to be on the safe side, and had ordered it with ground beef before the nachos came out. Of course, it came out greasy again, and without salsa. The cheese was at least good, if the overall dish was a little bland. I think I'd go back for drinks, but I'm not confident about much more.

It was magical and fun for our whole family, got us in the Christmas spirit even in November. It's fun from the moment you pull up, decorated on the outside with lots of Christmas lights. We were lucky enough to park right on the street out front. We were seated in an upstairs area. There was a large group that was standing around having happy hour that was very loud, they did leave halfway through our meal thank goodness. We ordered festive margaritas which came in Christmas mugs. We got elote and chips and queso, both good. We split an order of chorizo nachos which was my favorite food item we ordered, so good. Only downside the chips did get very soggy by the end. I had the birria tacos which weren't my favorite. My husband got street tacos, the carnitas being the best. Service was fast and our waitress was very friendly. Would definitely recommend, at least during Christmas for a fun, festive experience.

Cameron and Scallop Taco (2/5) tasted ok, but at $8 for ONE lonely taco, I would want exceptional flavor and scallops that were larger than hazelnuts. Barbacoa Tacos (3/5) yum, but standard. Chorizo Tacos (3/5) yum, but standard. Taco Plate (2/5) for an extra $6, we got rice and beans. It's nothing special, but still a missed opportunity for great flavor. Sadly, they were out of Lengua tacos during our visit. Service was friendly, but busy. We were lucky to get one of the 2 parking spots in the back lot. Others near our table had to park a few blocks away.
