We spent a good four hours following Keith around our future home and marveling at his knowledge of foundations and grades and electricity. He has a bag full of neat-o toys to check for problems you didn't know you needed to know about in your home. Now we have a 40-page laundry list of things we must address, should address, and might address someday. Keith donned coveralls and a respirator and made an extraordinary effort to slither into the ridiculous excuse for a crawl space, and identified water damage that the seller's pest inspector completely missed. And he did the entire inspection with professionalism matched by an understated, dry sense of humor that kept the whole thing more fun than I expected. Worth noting: I read a portion of his inspection to a roofer while trying to get a bid for some repair work Keith identified. The roofer said, yeah, some of those home inspectors can be really anal. Given the circumstances -- the largest purchase I have ever made -- I was incredibly happy to hear that. read more

If it was possible to give 6 stars I would. Keith Tarkington is simply amazing. His knowledge base was incredible and his work ethic admirable. We were recommended to him by our RA Kate McCaffrey (another gem). He was so thorough and explained everything in terms we could understand. His final report was well written and included things on how to maintain the house (an 1896 Victorian) While inspecting the house, he took into consideration that we had special needs children and really spent his time looking at what could be hazards or dangerous for them. I can't say enough good things about him. He was friendly, funny and has a lovely head of hair! ;-) My husband and I could not stop talking about how thorough he was. Would recommend him! read more

Very bad service, not reliable... exaggerating on everything, saying the roof is "not so old" and need some repairs when actually the roof is totally new !! Making inspection on older house expecting all to be like it was built e week ago ... I've used many inspectors in the past but this one is the worst for sure ! Though I won't be saying anything new over the previous Yelpers who have sung Keith's praises, I have to throw in my two cents because my boyfriend and I are HUGE fans of Keith! We used him twice during our home buying process and are so very thankful for his thoroughness. In one experience, we decided to pass on a house due to all of Keith's findings that another inspector didn't catch when the house had been sold just three years prior. The second house Keith inspected for us was in great condition, but even still, Keith found minor issues that the pest and roof inspectors didn't. Keith goes over ever inch of the house and he explains everything he finds, the regulations and reasoning behind requirements, the ease of fixing/updating and he does it in lay terms and gives you everything in an equally thorough and clear report. Not only is he a great communicator during the inspection, but is incredibly responsive to emails and phone calls both pre and post inspection as well. Can't say enough wonderful things about Keith. I found Keith here on yelp and chose him b/c of the good ratings he had.He showed up late but had notified me that he was gonna be late about 15 min and I said that was fine.When he showed up he told me he would give me a discount for not showing at the time scheduled :) He didn't have to do that but that just showed how professional he is with his appointments.He inspected every single thing and spent more than four hours with the inspection.I feel I got my moneys worth with this inspection and my agent who was with me agreed that Keith was an exceptional home inspector and that he was very knowledgeable... This review is a bit overdue, but during our home buying process, Keith was really helpful. I'd strongly recommend any prospective home buyer use Keith for a buyer's inspection during purchase. He was extremely through, patient and very knowledgeable. The sellers commented about how he inspected every nook and cranny and wished they had someone like him for their own home purchase. He then did a walkthrough with me and our agent at the end of the inspection to show us the major issues. While not typical, he also did a roof inspection that lined up well with the roof inspectors report. Within 24 hours of his inspection, he emailed us a detailed report. When I followed up with him via phone and email for some clarifications, he provided detailed responses in a timely manner. To follow up with our sellers, we needed some pictures of the crawl space and attic, and he promptly provided additional pictures. Our agent later noted that he has a reputation amongst sellers agents to avoid, since he is so thorough. We definitely felt more confident and aware of what we were getting during our home purchase after his inspection. read more

We found Keith through another highly recommended inspector, who was not available to do our inspection. We are thrilled with Keith. He is very thorough and detail-oriented. He explained his findings in a way that we can understand. He spent 4 hours from the roof to the sub-floor, going over every inch of the house. Even after he loaded up his tools to leave, he came back and pointed out to us a potential safety hazard (fall) that no one has noticed. We feel so much better about the house after his inspection. The reviews here were completely inaccurate. The report that was given to me by Keith could have been more comprehensive. It lacked pictures (there were probably only 3 pictures in the whole darn report) so it was difficult to explain to the contractors what each issue was. For the one that actually had a picture, he did not give a verbal walkthrough of. So, when the contractors asked what was the issue about a certain repair on the list Keith recommended, I couldn't really answer for sure because I didn't even know where it was. I got the location from Keith eventually through email but since I don't know physically where it was and Keith didn't talk about it during his inspection, it would be difficult for me alone to re-inspect and certify that yes, this repair was what Keith recommended. Keith did not even acknowledge this oversight and only agreed to come back and re-inspect if it was correctly repaired if I pay him $135 on top of the $320 I already gave him. He also took his time replying to my emails. I feel ripped off. He seems to only care about the money and not about the quality of his service and his customers' satisfaction. Will absolutely NOT be recommending him. read more
