This place is under looked at because of the place next door, the Bagel Emporium, which it's overhyped and overpriced. The atmosphere was great, small but cozy, the staff is very helpful and friendly. I ordered a Chipotle chicken sandwich with mouster cheese, LTM, jalapeños, and a Turkey wrap with mixed greens, honey mustard and Swiss cheese. A side of macaroni salad and a sour pickle. Giving this 5 stars to increase the overall rating. It's really more like 3.5. Looking at the reviews here convinced me for a long while to avoid this place like the plague, even though I live around the corner. Went in randomly 1 day to get a drink, and contrary to what's written here they couldn't have been friendlier. That convinced me to come back and try the food. They were mobbed when I came the next time between people waiting and also to go orders. Even so they took care of my order quickly. Drink and chip options were solid. I got a Reuben and my wife got the Virginia. My Reuben was solid, with a decent amount of meat, and it was very well balanced with not too much thousand island or cheese. My wife liked her sandwich even though it had Mayo on it which she normally hates. Pricing was cheap so that made it even better. Why the disparity in reviews? Not sure if they changed owners or something. More over, it's a case of what my wife described as people complaining about 'deli sushi'. That's not to say they have sushi, it's to make the point that you should never order things in a deli (like sushi) which have no prayer of a chance of being good. It's a fucking deli. Buy a sandwich. Not everything in the display case looked amazing, but that's always the case. Judging a deli like a Michelin star restaurant doesn't make an ounce of sense. This place has a hot lunch menu and different specials every day of the week but they make amazing sandwiches I love the roast beef and Swiss with less tomato mayo salt pepper olive oil and vinegar. Pretty much where the Saw Mill River Parkway hits I-87/287, you'll find the fifty year old Tarrytown Deli. It was on our direct route to MetLife Stadium, which made it a convenient stop to pick up sandwiches for the game. What an impressive place! It has just about everything you could possibly want for a meal -custom cooked breakfasts, twenty four kinds of cold and twelve kinds of hot sandwiches, paninis, wraps, over twenty homemade salads, hot lunch specials, bakery goods, soups, chips and snacks, etc. My turkey sub for the game, and a croissant for the car ran $10.74 and I was very happy with both. The croissant was delicious and still warm! The turkey sandwich had a generous portion of super fresh deli turkey and the shredded lettuce, provolone cheese, sliced tomatoes and spicy mustard I asked for turned this into one helluva great lunch. If I could give a half star, I would. I literally am around this area DAILY, and am ALWAYS hungry...They lost a loyal customer and an outspoken foodie who loves to share new places to eat.. I walked in here, almost salivating because of how hungry I was. I expected to be greeted, helped, tended, asked "What would you like to order?", to which I would respond "Hi its my first time here, and then ask the person helping me what they would recommend, or what dish the place is known for.. I was actually visibly profiled, and a person who just walked in was greeted and tended to by the same lady who was supposed to finally (after a good amount of time had passed and I was standing at the counter and walking to and from one end to the other hoping someone would acknowledge me and help me. Unfortunate. Not sure what's up with Asian lady who had us waiting to pay for ready made soup and coffee. No eye contact - with me or my mom, but with Jekyll and Hyde like hospitality, was discriminatory friendly with three people who arrived after us and placed deli orders. Thank God for the polite gentlemen who came to our rescue and checked us out after completing deli orders. The sign in the window reads "Established in 1960"... Stay away!!! I was working in the area today and headed over to the bagel place next door but the line was long and the seats were taken so I opted for the deli next door. BIG MISTAKE!! I ordered a Philly cheesesteak which was listed as one of their daily specials. About halfway through the sandwich I bit into something rock hard. I spit it out and can only assume and hope that it was a piece of bone?! I've NEVER encountered a piece of bone in a Philly. EVER. I took one more bite and tasted something off. Almost sour. I didn't finish eating and within minutes my stomach was RUMBLING!! It's now 4pm and I've been on and off the toilette with serious bloating, gas and diarrhea. Wish I read the reviews before coming here. Basically everything is already premade. This isn't like a deli at all, it's more like a gas station. I really like this place. I was a little hesitant to try it due to the many negative reviews. I especially love it for the coffee and friendly responsive crew. Only Dominick's further down the street has a coffee that matches here. They also have a pretty good egg and cheese with hash brown sandwich. There's also a sandwich called SEX which I find funny. That's all I've tried so far. Their deli in case offerings tend to look old, but one day this week I went in mid morning and everything was super fresh. I'll need to try their prepared foods soon. Now if you want a bagel, croissants or muffins try someplace else. I initially came here seeking refuge from the similarly awful bagels and coffee and service of Bagel Emporium next door. However no dice on that front. Their old expired dried up stuff is plain awful. They do other things better. A lot of people also say the Korean couple who own the deli and the stationery story next door are rude. That hasn't been my experience at all. In fact I find them professional and very friendly with their regulars. They did picnic lunches/baskets way back, not sure they do that any more but hey you could just order some salads (health, German potato, red potato, German cucumber), sandwich or wrap & make your own basket. Nice deli with a long counter on one side and a long drink cooler on the other. The Italian combo hero was delicious. I haven't had a really good Italian sub since I moved to NY 10 years ago. This deli is horrible. I'm not going to waste time with what this place used to be because it hasn't been in awhile. Four customers lined up 1-2-3-4 to get served in that order, not here. Poor guy behind me who got service before I did, ordered an Italian combo on a roll. Deli slicer wasn't used once, not once. All the cold cuts and cheese were pre sliced, gross. I could get that at a Subway and it'd probably be better because the rolls here aren't very good either...think they get them from Sam's Club or Stop n Shop.. If you were to order a 1/2 pound of American, I'd guarantee they'd go to that pre sliced pile and load you up with that stale thick cut cheese. Because who doesn't like thick cut cheese and deli meats? Interested in hot food? Beef brisket & corned beef are easily 50% fat. Maybe get some soupy stuffing and wet mashed potatoes as a side. I'm done with this place. When a business is this consistent at being bad, it's time to go elsewhere. The first time I got a sandwich there it was actually pretty good. The guy who made it was not a talker, but that's cool. Lady at the counter wasn't either but that's cool. Second time I went, I brought my Dad, who was visiting from out of town, telling him this place makes a pretty decent sandwich. When we walked in, the dude was visibly annoyed that he had to tear himself away from the football game on in the back to make my sandwich. Then when I paid the lady, I said, "Mind if I give you some change?". She nodded while I counted a few coins, then 5 seconds later went, "C'mon. C'mon." No one else in the place, by the way. Ok so I really hate to do this but their sandwiches and prices are very very inconsistent! I actually went back to the store to have them fix it. And when i called to speak with the manager, they said she wasn't there! I just left the deli and knew she was there. She rung me up! I always get the same thing...the only person that can make a good sandwich there is the Caucasian gentleman who wears a baseball cap and T-shirt. He actually puts meat in the sandwich. And at $9 a pop there should be! Everyone makes their sandwiches differently, including the owner. Which makes me crazy till no end. Unless you are a regular and can make nice with someone this is the pace that will let you stand there for 3 Minutes and not make eye contact with you when there is no one in the store. When you finally get your hero. This is the pace that will fill your hero with lettuce and cheese and tomato then the little bit of space left is where your meet goes. Open the sandwich and your eating mostly bread and toppings and the the meat is the topping. Sometimes a good hero, most of the time, Where is the meat. I boycott this place for a year at a time.
