Had the traditional cut pastrami sandwich as its a little fatty which gives the pastrami sandwich more flavor and it delivered on taste. Although both sandwiches were barely warm -- almost to the point where my husband was considering sending it back to the kitchen. He did not as he didn't want to wait for another sandwich to be brought out. The hand-cut French fries were very good. The coleslaw was okay -- certainly not the best I've had, but far from the worst. They also brought out two types of classic complimentary pickles for the table. Again, they were just okay -- I've definitely had better. One thing to note: the classic half sandwich & cup of soup combo comes with fries, but if you order just a classic sandwich, it does not come with fries, both priced at $17.99. My husband got the cup of lentil soup, which he enjoyed. I ordered the potato salad as a side dish, it was very vinegar-heavy and not really to my taste. I ended up bringing it home and doctoring it up, which made it much better. They had good deli mustard on the table, I asked for Russian dressing since I like that on my pastrami sandwich -- that was good. And of course, you've for to have a Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray or any one of the other Dr Brown flavors. All in all, we enjoyed our lunch. Between the food, the service, and the fact that the place is dated, I'd give it a 3 1/2 stars overall. Free on-site parking is a big parking lot as there are several other stores right in the plaza. This isn't a fancy place--they close early, there are no white tablecloths, no wine list, and the décor leans toward gray veneer booths with red seats. But that's exactly the point. You come here for the food, not the frills. The pickles were outstanding--crisp, flavorful, and the kind you keep reaching for between bites. My BF and I split the Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roast Beef & Turkey "Sloppy Joe"- with Russian dressing, coleslaw, lettuce and tomato on some of the best rye bread I've ever gad for $23.99 it was a very generous portion large enough to split and still feel stuffed. This was my first time having 4 different proteins in one sandwich, I was skeptical at first, but my goodness each deli meat was so fresh, tender and flavorful. My BF and I agreed, best sandwich we've ever had. Closest runner ups were Barney Greengrass's pastrami corned beef combo (half the size, 33% more expensive) and for his florida blood, a pubsub from publix We were served w large bowl of pickles (full and half sour) when we sat down, and the service was excellent. Some insight into Epstein's low rating- if you visit a KOSHER deli and are upset they can't give you dairy cheese on your turkey sandwich, that reveals a lot about *you* as a customer and is in no way a reflection of the business you are patronizing. When both my wife and i get stomach aches after we ate here twice (a month apart) makes us think either the food is loaded with preservatives or the place is not clean..or both! disgusting..you shouldn't feel poisoned after you go out to eat. I had not been here since I worked in white plains in the 1980's through the early 1990's I would go at least once a week back then and enjoyed my kosher food. Great pastrami, great corned beef and tongue. The home made knishes are great even though I prefer the square Gabriella knish which they also prepare to perfection. Board of health should come and really look at this place .. it's filthy .. front window had all bugs in it and dirt, ceiling tiles stained and mildewed, from what I could see in the kitchen thru window and when door opened it was old and beyond filthy in there .. pickles were soggy, French fries were soggy and full of grease, rice soup tasted old and like a chemical and the potato knish was literally RUBBER !! It was easy to order online. I got a pastrami on club, and there was a good amount of meat, but you can pay extra for a half pound more of meat, not sure what the standard amount is. The food was ready quicker than email said it would take. There was plenty of parking since it's in a strip mall. Stopped in to grab a few hotdogs for lunch. i'm so glad I did! The hotdogs have a Great bite to them, with a little bit of Chrispness on the outside. I bought two, one for me and one for my friend. One with sauerkraut and mustard and one with just mustard. The Sauerkraut had a great sour tang to it with a nice spicy mustard. We love the hotdogs, they were very memorable. There are many impressive things to order both from the menu and from the deli. I'll start with the deli sandwiches. The tongue sandwich was quite good. I was surprised how delicate the flavor was, and there was a deeper quality to the meat compared to other cuts. The deluxe sandwich which included cuts of roast beef Pastrami and corned beef was extremely tasty. In particular the Pastrami and corned beef really hit the spot. The turkey sandwich did not seem so special given that the other meats proved themselves to be much stronger. The cold Deli items were also quite tasty. Macaroni salad stood out, nicely textured with bits of carrot providing contrasting flavors. The white fish was really rich, some might consider it's too salty. I thought it was okay in that respect. The coleslaw tasted very fresh, as did the beets. The herring was perhaps much too pickled for my taste. Finally, the knishes are all really nice. The deli was able to warm them all up. The potato knishes, both the round and the square ones, had a lot of rich flavor, and texturally gives one a feel-good sensation. The buckwheat knishes had a distinctive flavor that I was not quite used to; however, I believe over time I could get used to it. Excellent overall! read more

There deli sandwiches are always fabulous. I particularly like the corned beef on rye with Russian dressing on the side. And don't forget the Dr. Browns soda, either cream or black cherry flavor. Service is always friendly. This is an old style, quaint deli with the ambiance of yesterday's style. Hubs loves meat. Good meat. Flavorful meat. And a damn good Kosher Pastrami sandwich. For a low-key Kosher eatery, Epstein's seems to be doing ok at the Dalewood Shopping Center on Central Ave in Hartsdale. New Yorkers all know there's one Jewish Deli winner and that's Katz in NYC. But for Hartsdale, Epstein's has the traditional Jewish menu folks really like in these neck of the woods also. Hubs went in heavy when restaurants got the green light to reopen after being shutdown for so long during pandemic '20. And since then, his go-to items are the pastrami sandwich+ fries+root beer. We've only done order pick ups and the few times I've been here, service is nice and the space looks put together. This is definitely hubs' place- not mine. He feels this is a firm favorite for serious Jewish soul food made with love- including pastrami sandwiches that come out on top review after review- despite their low rating. read more

Well me and the family stopped in at our old kosher dogs from many moons ago, so our reference for this local monument comes from super customer service great portions and a excellent dining experience. After returning back to this eatery we found that from the moment we were seated to our server we felt like we were a inconvenience and a nuisance. I must say the Dill and Kosher pickles were just as I remembered 35 years ago but the pastrami, corned beef tasted delicious but the portions left something to be desired are they Katz or Carnegie No but these small renditions of what I grew up on in Hartsdale was a big let down. But nonetheless we returned, we ate And we traveled back down 95 with our hearts only connected to the memories of what was in the 1980's and 1990's understanding it take a strong culture to maintain a standard that sticks with you through time! read more

Saw that even during construction they are open. Very impressive menu with tons of choices. My wife and I ordered the 1/2 sandwich with soup deal. I had the mushroom barley and the wife had the matzo ball soup. Very good soups. I had the tongue and mo wife had the pastrami. Both lacked taste and were very bland, even with the mustard. Over 30 guests were to arrive. My husband likes only the best corned beef and it has to be lean. I called Frank who prepared the most beautiful platters and delivered them himself to my door in CT. How do you know when you're at a Jewish deli? When it's good and disappointing at the same time. The last time I went to an Epsttein's deli, I'm pretty sure it was pre-pandemic, with my dad. so it's been a while. At the time, I think we went to the one in Yonkers, which has since closed. I don't remember the last time, if ever, that I went to this Epstein's in Hartsdale, but since it's December, and I saw they had a special of brisket with gravy, and potato pancakes, neither of which I've had in a LONG time...I had to give it a shot. Less than a minute after entering, I was greeted by one of the serving staff, who seated me, provided a menu, silverware set, while another dining area staff brought a glass of water. Les than a minute later, I was provided with a plate of pickle slices, dropped there so fast i didn't have time to tell them I didn't want them. oh well. It's a Jewish deli. You get pickles. Since I'd arrived knowing what I wanted to order I didn't have to look at the menu long to locate it on the menu, then place my order. My server was prompt, courteous, and throughout the meal attentive and answered any questions, so no complaints there. Then there was the food. The brisket was thin sliced, tender, and with the gravy, had a nice flavor. Without the gravy, it was pretty bland. I guess i'm spoiled by the BBQ brisket I used to get at the now closed Big W's in wingdale, which had easily the best brisket I've ever had, and possibly ever will have, in my life. it's a tough standard to measure up to. This brisket is good, but it's not great, and I still want to find great brisket. Unfortunately, the brisket was let down by the potato pancakes. The menu promises this is a meal like mom used to make, but Epstein's never had my mom's latkes. Aside from having a very nicely seasoned potato mash mixture that used matzoh crumbs and other herbs and seasonings to make a good latke mix, when mom made her latkes, she made them fresh to order in a frying pan, in about a 1/4 inch of corn oil, frying them crisply on one side, then flipping them, frying them to an equal crisp on the other side, with the pancakes abosrbing just enough oil, and cokking quickly enough, that the latkes had a crisp pancake look on both sides, while being tender and moist on the inside. THESE POTATO PANCAKES DON"T COME CLOSE TO MY MOM'S!!!!!!!!!!! I've bought frozen potato pancakes that were ok, even when reheated in an oven, but these didn't even measure up to the frozen variety. It may be hard to imagine that a potato pancake, made from a starchy vegetable/tuber that's nearly all water, could taste dry, but these did. They also were rather lacking in flavor. Salting them helped considerably, as did dipping them in the provided apple sauce, which these sorely needed. After I finished my food, I asked the server how the latkes were cooked, and he informed me they were first baked, then reheated in a deep fryer. Which made sense for the flavor, since the baking cooked them crisply enough that the deep frying to heat them for serving didn't allow the oil to penetrate to the inside of the pancakes. For the coup de gras, when I went to the cashier to pay for the meal, I wasn't asked 'how was everything?' The cashierjust rang me up, and that was it. If you're not going to ask for feedback at checkout, you're not going to find out in the moment what your customers thought of your meal, or your service, Until they read about it on a site like this. read more

I have had other great pastrami sandwiches from different places of New york. 22$ for THIS "hot pastrami" is OVER PRICED! This sandwich its extremely small for this price specially compared to other pastrami sandwich spots. The sandwich was barely warm and the bread was not fresh. The pastrami tasted pretty bland and was definitely dry. Like a previous review stated, all the meat was piled up in the middle leaving the edges of the sandwich was just bread and mustard. Was down here for the week and was in search of some New York deli "soul food". Pretty blah strip mall but a lot of the delis now sit in these spots and quite frankly who cares if the food is good. The turkey pastrami sandwich on seedless rye was tasty....albeit a little small coming in the 13 dollar range. Flavorful though (think a mini overstuffed sammich). The Coney knish unlike most places was nice and crisp on the exterior and they threw in a side of spicy brown... a few crispy full sours were thrown in as well which were wince worthy. A Doc Brown Cel-Ray to round it out. I think I got a curious look w a Buffalo Sabres jersey on and an accent that clearly wasn't from Hartsdale or around Lower Westchester....probably amused.
