How beautiful this place is. First let me begin by stating how beautiful the location is. I personally found the upkeep to appear well in tact and I even saw gardeners attending to the lawns so clearly they keep eyes on upkeep which is particularly important when you have a special event planned. I had the pleasure of attending a wedding as a bridesmaid. The space was beautiful and spacious. The china on the lower level in casing was beautiful and the colors chosen have a very old home comfort feel. Takes you back a bit to another time. Lighting for images is great here and there is a handicap parking close to the ramps which make entry and exits very easy. They offer recycling and trash in their kitchen. The staff on site was very informative and kind. Overall, a very pleasant experience. The videos and photos we took look beautiful!!! This is a nice park. I went here today to go hiking. Moderate to easy hike I would say. I enjoyed seeing the views from the top of the yellow trail, but other than that not too many cool views. Mostly just a lot of trees. I really enjoyed the valley part though and the trails were pretty easy to figure out. A lot of bugs out in this area though, so make sure you remember your bug spray! I would say definitely check it out if you enjoy a good long hike. People in this area were super friendly which was a pleasant surprise :) read more

Beautiful park with nice trails. One of my favorites to visit in the area. A little bit of everything for everyone depending on what you are looking for. 4 stars because I found that there is a very high level of ticks. Found 3 crawling on my pants while walking. My dog and sisters dog were covered after a short 1 hour visit. When I say covered I mean 8 found on my dog and 6 on my sisters dog. They weren't even running through the grass. Stayed on leash by our sides the entire walk on the path. Just be sure to check yourself and pets every so often and after leaving. read more

I enjoy the Sunday morning yoga sessions when I am in the country and manage to make it. The park also has a few very doable trails and one called an Ives trail that I hear goes all the way to bethel and to Ridgefield! I've been meaning to give that a shot one day. It is very convenient for me and in a prime location but awfully managed trail. Trail marks are not maintained or wrong. Grasses and weeds are grown several feet, thorn bushes entangled narrow tail. I often carry a pruning scissor. Fallen trees often impossible pass. Someone with vision and enthusiasm must spearhead to improve, enhance and maintained. Beautiful park, garden, and event home with a little bit of everything. Looks perfect for a special event inside or out. The house has an atrium and large porch. The grounds have a volunteer greenhouse, high points with boulders, a meditation garden, a labyrinth, a gazebo, a covered arbor walk, and open lawn space. On a Saturday morning, most of the people there were either families with kids or teenagers trying to find a place to smoke together. The loud music from teen cars and smoking was the only thing that made it less appealing- but they weren't everywhere- just in certain spots. read more

Went here spontaneously when I was in CT from out of town. Went on the easy trail around the pond. Trail was mainly flat but in the woods so was still exhilarating. Didn't have sneakers. Had leather luxury boots and could still do it and was in stretchy jeans! Marked very clearly once you got onto trail further down. However finding the trails from parking lot was very confusing. All trails seem to start at same area past the barn. It was so confusing. I was walking all around the parking lot and downloaded the map on all trails. Killed my battery. read more

The 1.3 mile hike around Park's Pond is the nicest hike you will ever be on. You can't ask for a more scenic setting. Part of the hike is right next to the water and any small slip and you're wet. There's plenty of free parking too. read more

As far as enjoying the outdoors in Danbury goes, this is certainly a 4 star spot. One of the pluses being that it is free and open to the public. There are various walking trails and some nice open grass pastures. It is neat to walk by the old mansion as a contrast to all the open space. And I believe that one can rent out the mansion for an event such as a wedding, I do remember a friend being married here several years ago anyhow. For a fairly large city by CT standards, it is nice to have a place like this where one can enjoy some fresh air and get get a little bit of exercise as well. read more

Great place for a hike or to take the dogs. They have both trails and a path around the green. Close to Danbury and so peaceful. It does get very busy in the summer so weekend in the spring and fall are best. You can even rent the building and have a party there read more

Many years I did hike throughout the park during ALL the 4 SEASONS, WINTER SNOW, trekking through and bouncing down the YELLOW TRAIL was the most fun, seeing horses , bikers, nature Birds occasionally a garter snake . When we decided to come up to Danbury for the weekend, we looked for dog friendly hiking trails and found Tarrywile. The scenery from the pictures looked amazing so we decided that that was where we would go. We arrived at around 8am with our two small dogs. The map was a little difficult to read so I snapped a picture on my phone just for reference. We followed the white trail and then walked through the hay field. The hike was pretty easy and it was beautiful! Loads of mosquitoes so make sure to use plenty of insect repellent and if you're bringing your furries, make sure they are protected! read more

One of my favorite place for a eve Walk. Beautiful n Peaceful place to feel rejuvenated. A pond with lots of fishes (rarely we get to see turtle)attracts fishing.A place full of greenary(in summers) n fresh breeze makes you feel stress free. There is NO other venue in CT that I'd recommend for a wedding than Tarrywile Mansion & Park. Our late September wedding was beyond perfect and magical! From the very beginning -- meeting the manager and all the preferred vendors at an open house earlier in the year to the ease of payments, suggestions of setup, usage of the kitchen and most importantly usage of the Vineyard Trellis for the ceremony -- everything was perfect! Our photographer had a FIELD DAY with the shots she could take there. Late September was perfect. The day was beautiful and all of my family that came up from Georgia were able to see the natural, beautiful rolling hills and leaves changing. We had the venue for the max amount of time, which was perfect. I was able to have my girls and family members get ready on-site in the women's powder room- with lights and makeup table! The guys loved the Men's suite across the hall that gave them access to a closed-in wraparound porch on the top level. The price of the venue was better than most venues, we also were able to use the tables and chairs for the reception. This cut down on the cost of the wedding itself by at least $2500. Being able to be outside and inside was a MUST for me. I didn't want to be confined to one big open space for our reception, the mansion was perfect with the outside porch where the food and drinks were served. The conservatory gave off the most stunning light for our sweetheart table. It also gave us the illusion of being inside and outside at the same time. We didn't even have to decorate that room. My favorite place for hiking in the area- so many trails to explore- and its definitely worth the climb up the hill to see the old tarrywile castle that is now run down- and some say haunted! Lot's of wildlife- beautiful ponds...and dogs are not allowed off leash as a previous poster stated...This place is beautiful year round- and I believe you can even get a camping permit for one of the few sites they have. Love this place! Recently moved from Westchester, NY so I am used to talking the Rockefeller preserves and Old Croton Aqueduct trails. This place is great. Very clean, beautiful views, and well-maintained trails. You can walk for hours or just for a little bit - as my dogs are getting older they can't hike for hours anymore, so I usually just do the loop up near the lake and back. Lots of dog-friendly people too - a nice change from Westchester! read more

I got to see a portion of the hiking trail when I ran along it, yes, I know it is crazy, but the important point here is that this is a difficult trail to run. Very well marked, well maintained, views were good, but I had so little time. One thing, I was afraid to go alone. The answer came so easy. Tarrywile Park! I started missing Tarrywile Park so I went on Yelp to read some sweet reviews of my favorite place in Danbury. I expected rows of 5 star ratings and multitudes of Tarrywile Park Yelpers. Imagine my surprise when I saw that no one had written one review for the most fabulous place in Danbury. Perhaps it's fate that this review is mine. I believe it is. Let me tell you about Tarrywile. A web page might tell you that Tarrywile is a park, with trails, and a mansion that people can tour or rent out for events. But Tarrywile is so much more, and even full of magic and charms. Follow one trail and you can see the remains of what was once a castle that a husband built for his wife. Follow another trail and you come to a lookout over downtown Danbury and Candlewood Lake in the distance. Stop and throw rocks at the water tower and you are officially at what is called "Alien Headquarters". Eat wild blackberries. Trail-run or walk your dog around the pond then stop to talk to the other dog owners. Watch someone's wedding in the field by the apple trees. Potluck with friends for a solstice or drum circle. For years, I would meet my friends at Tarrywile and we would spend hours hiking, wandering, drumming, treasure hunting, stargazing. Some of my best dates were at Tarrywile. I'm divorced now, but my ex-husband and I officially started dating at Tarrywile...and it was still one of my favorite dates. In winter, Tarrywile has the perfect hill for sledding and the perfect flat spaces for making snow angels and snow people. I have an idea. The grounds are simply gorgeous - hiking trails around the beautiful lake, open fields of tall grass, gorgeous views of the Danbury skyline, a picturesque apple orchard - not to mention the mansion and the castle! We rented the mansion and had the BEST graduation party ever. We decorated the porch with lights - it was beautiful when the sun set. The entire first floor was ours to entertain guest, and we used the grounds to hold the greatest badminton and soccer games ever. Our guest roamed around inside and outside, and loved every minute of it. The kitchen was fully equipped which out caterer loved. Sam, the house manager, was outstanding. We had such a wonderful evening at Tarrywile. Can't wait for the next kid to graduate so we can do it again! read more
