Lotta online competition these days. And Amazon is Amazon. I discovered Tarzian West during an exhaustive search of Le Creuset sellers. Literally hundreds. So glad I happened upon Tarzian West. They didn't have what I was initially looking for, but the respectful and prompt response I got made me want to order from them at a later date. And I'm glad I did. All the way from NY to AZ they shipped a lengthy list of unique and fairly priced items promptly and with zero damage. I was pretty gobsmacked. Great company. Truly a blessing to do business with. Great service from the moment you walk into the door. Walked me directly to the item I was looking for. I picked two different coffee filters, one brown and one white, and they pointed that out at checkout. Very observant and appreciated. I just love this kind of store that has just about anything imaginable for housewares. Kind of like one of those family owned hardware stores with narrow isles but staff are so knowledgeable they can direct you right to what you are looking for. read more

This store is amazing, though a bit hard to navigate the small aisles. I wouldn't bring my toddler back with me, but we found everything we needed (amazing knife and kitchen utensil collection), and walked out with a few additional gems we found along the way. Had no idea Tarzian had a housewares store! This place is amazing to browse. I say browse because a lot of the items here are H-I-G-H end. It's a bit tight inside, but that's because they cram a ton of things in there. They have so many specialty items, and the staff is always happy to help out! read more

Went in for a small pot, non-stick - found one but it was larger than I wanted. I asked the guy on the floor if he had a smaller one, same brand. He said no, whatever's out is it, they haven't gotten new inventory for these. (I'd asked him if the pots came smaller period.) As I left, I looked in the window and saw what appeared to be a smaller pot of the same brand on display. Went back in and said "it looks like the display model is smaller", he seemed annoyed but came outside to look. He said "no, it's not smaller (than the one inside), I said "it looks smaller", finally he went inside the window display with the pot inside the store and it was smaller, like I thought. Went to the register and the woman checking people out said "so you want this" and then she said, do you want a new one in the box - so in other words they had plenty of these exact pots but the initial guy on the floor was I guess too lazy to check. I said "I don't need one in the box, but if you can offer a discount for the floor model that would be good." She gave me 10% off and it still wasn't much cheaper than the larger pot. (like 4$. I asked about that and she said "well it's probably a different model or something, or a different line", none of which were true. I bought it anyway but the lack of effort on the worker's side, attitude and also, it just seemed like they want people to pick something, pay, and get the hell out; last time I come here. read more

This place is a perfect example of a park slope type store. It's small, packed, family-owned and contains a lot of merchandise you can't really find in other larger stores. I have shopped here a couple of times when moving to my new place and I am always finding something new that catches my eye. The place is small but adventurous. Their wares are also generally great quality. I got both a 3 gallon stock pot and a complete knife/block set that I am really happy with from here. I highly recommend checking this place out if you need kitchen supplies. It is a nice experience regardless of what you might need. It's amazing how much (neat) stuff is crammed into this store. As others have indicated, the space constraints are somewhat problematic (and today is a Saturday, too). However, the store's selection of housewares is really great and they have lots of items in beautifully bright colors. In terms of the prices, perhaps I wasn't looking at the same types of items as some other reviewers - but I thought the prices were actually reasonable. There was a nice young guy working there and he answered some questions I had, plus an older man near the cash register was also helpful. read more

Really great housewares store. They have absolutely everything. It's an adventure shopping here (in a good way). Some might call it cramped but I love it. And I guess it's expensive because they sell quality items. I looked up some of the items online and found the same price on amazon -- some things I couldn't even find online -- like their great selection of european imports that are hard to find elsewhere. I wouldn't do all of my housewares shopping here, but they are great if you need something fast, or you need something of quality. Return policy is what it is. It's a small business. Makes sense. Tarzian West For Housewares - Kitchen & Bath Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

This place is overwhelmingly packed with covetable things for folks who cook and entertain at home. The aisles are so narrow that patrons are forced to play human Tetris, where one person recedes into a nook before the other can settle in to look at the glass tumblers and cocktail accoutrements. Somehow, it works. But I'm still amazed that I didn't maul a display with my grocery tote. At any rate, if you ever want to surprise me, my preferred colors are teal and lime. And I'm partial to Le Creuset, even though I didn't see any in those colors. (I think the lime is called "Lemongrass" and is only available through Williams Sonoma. Sigh.) Tarzian also stocks Sodastream Carbonators in both sizes! That's what brought me in. You get $10 off for turning in an empty carbonator of either size, and Sodastream has increased the capacity of the larger carbonators from 110L to 130L. SWEET. So for $27, I have one canister that's the equivalent of 65 2 Liter bottles of soda water. That's a lot of stuff that I don't have to carry up my stairs. Nice, helpful staff. And innovative too -- they have walkie talkies to prevent themselves from having to play that slow game of people-Tetris with customers. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE. Loaded with impulse-buys that are so cute I simply MUST have them (octopus scrub-brush, anyone?), this place has got your cute kitchen needs covered. I shopped here for a friend's bridal shower, and it was difficult to choose -- there was so much cuteness! I also bought a soft lunchbox here and some ice pack thingys that keep my lunch nice and cold. They have loads of kitchen gadgetry. (The kinds of things you never knew you needed... until NOW.) It's a very squished place for many housewares needs. It's all quality, which I like, so I know where I can get my Le Creuset dutch ovens last minute. There are lots of kitchen gadgets, Riedel glasses, candles, etc. It's like a high quality Bed, Bath and Beyond squished into a large studio with high ceilings. Cute mugs and aprons here, too. I bought 3-d cookie cutters here... the pieces cut out with tabs, so you can assemble animals and whatnot. read more

I sort of can't deal with how much I love this place. I've been working in the neighborhood for ten years, and I stop in often. It's insane how much stuff they can fit in there - and they absolutely have everything you need. More than that, I've been *inspired* to learn how to cook certain dishes by talking to the people working there. They actually know how the products work, and really take their time pointing you to the most useful tools. This store inspires, and more than that - I've run into the owner a few times and am stunned by how well she knows her inventory, and how much thought she puts into this place. Of course, cooking items is the big focus, but they also have shower curtains and other necessary items for other rooms in your house. This independent business has been thriving in Park Slope for 40 years. Straight up. 40 years. Keeping an indie place running, packed to the brim and constantly cycling with the seasons is a huge task - and only recently - with the closing of several other kitchen stores in NY - do I realize how lucky we are to have this treasure of a place. read more

Everything here is so darn adorable, I always end up buying some ridiculous mashing tool or pot holder in the shape of an animal or person. We recently got a gift card as a housewarming present and two bottle openers, both from Tarzian and both uber adorable. As authorized sellers of brands such as Le Creuset, their pricing is the same as other major retailers. We all know that the better brands cost more. The staff is helpful and friendly and ready to go the extra mile. I love the little kitchen gadgets they stock and everything is right there if you need it in a hurry. This place is a neighborhood gem. It's bizarre how much useful, well-designed and beautiful merchandise they sell in that tiny store. It's like a Crate and Barrell, Target and Sur La Table in one small-business-owned boutique. If you're a budding home chef, they will have everything you need. New apartment? Everything you need. Their buyers have excellent taste. And great service every time I'm there. And to this person: "Disingenuous, rude owner. Horribly overpriced. I like to go in, see what I like, and buy it on Amazon while I'm standing there." Of course you live in Manhattan, the sad, generic land of Big Box Stores and ATM vestibules. Please stay there. This store is literally packed to the max with all things for the kitchen & bathroom. Narrow aisles and shelves stacked to the ceiling with seriously everything from baking pans to shower curtains. For me though, Tarzian was a bit toooo crowded - I've never been so overwhelmed by so many items. Probably great for picking up that random kitchen item you thought you had but didn't... but I can't imagine spending a ton of time in there shopping for gifts and such. read more

I love cooking stores. What I don't love is tiny cramped stores because of the fear I will knock a row of wine glasses. Yup, that nearly happened here and I got the stink eye from one of the employees. Nevertheless, for such a teeny store, this place will just about have everything and anything you need. I walked in needing a new french press and voila, two shelves full of choices. Reading other reviews for this place, people seem to complain about prices but my Bodum French press was the same price as the one I saw in Target so stfu people. Cooking stores in general are not cheap and hey, when it comes to stuff in the kitchen, you want to invest in good quality stuff. read more

They have everything here from Le Creuset items to rice cookers to shower curtains to kitchen gadgets to wine stoppers to bento boxes to dishtowels to spice jars... need I continue? Clothing drying rack, pitchers and tupperware, wheeled bags for multiple trips to Tarzian West, cookie sheets, kids cooking/cleaning items, photo boxes, knives, food scales, water bottles.... I only regret that my kitchen is not large enough to hold all the things I want to get from there... Tight spaces, but so packed that it can still take me an hour to just browse the place (not always buy - see previous sentence...). Love. read more

First of all, the inventory here is fantastic, the staff is attentive and know their stuff. That being said, I have been coming here on and off for 30 years, and practically every employee they have ever hired displays amazing levels of attitude and hostility. There is an undertone or undercurrent of anger and hostility behind every word every employee utters. The second you walk in, within 5 seconds an employee asks "can i help you" in a robotic tone. They want you in and out of here as fast as possible. They refuse to say hello, refuse to say thank you, and talk in a condescending way to you. They don't care about anyone's business because they are selling so well. The inventory is great if overpriced. That I have little issue with, it is not the easiest to find every item they have in this location online. Prices may be high but in a way worth it. I am not saying don't give them business. Just be prepared for major attitude UNDER THE SURFACE. It is almost as if during the hiring process, over the past 30 years, they only seeked out employees who all needed anger management. Guess what? It is possible to be FAKE POLITE and NOT GENUINE. I don't need ridiculous attentiveness where within 5 seconds of walking in, I am asked robotically "can I help you?" All I ask is maybe a "Hello" and a "Thank you" once a decade. Is that too much to ask? 99% of the employees or staff LITERALLY refuse to say "hello" or "thank you" EVER. By the way, on a side note, Calexico the mexican restaurant on 5th avenue in Park Slope is the restaurant version of Tarzian West regarding employees attitude. I guess in Park Slope or rich areas, places like this exist all over. If you go to a 99 Cents store to buy pots or pans instead of Tarzian, you are at least dealing with HUMAN BEINGS, not robots who talk in monotones who want you in and out in 30 seconds. read more

Been passing this store for years and loved the neighborhood vibe of it, how tiny it is. Gotten a few small things here. When I was shopping for a christmas present decided to get a soda stream from here. I saw the display model, played with it for a moment and asked the clerk if the new one is less flimsy, if it comes in a nice box since it's a christmas present and they said: "the new one is of course without moving parts etc, packed nicely and comes with CO2 charged". I decided to get one and they said they would bring one from the basement storage. After waiting in line for 15 minutes I was at the checkout and said: they were going to bring up a soda stream and the clerk said yes, it's right here. As I was about to pay I saw two clerks grab the old display model and start shoving it into an old box without telling letting me know they were giving me an old floor model or asking me if I am ok with gifting an old rickety machine with scratches and ripped up box as a christmas gift. Had I not noticed I would have ended up with a horrible surprise (no refunds: store credit only) as well as the special someone who was receiving it. I asked: are you giving me the display copy after everything we discussed? The CO2 wasn't in the box either. Very screwed up to try to trick someone this way: no transparency and time wasted. If small businesses want to survive in the age of instant amazon gratification they need to stop pulling crap like this. read more

What's bad: 1. "Return" policy. Actually, they don't take returns. They keep your money. They will do exchanges. But nothing, even un-opened items, can be returned for your money back. 2. Expensive. Everything is overpriced. If money is no object for you, then this may be the place for your. 3. Customer service. Not much of that. But there was a little bit of attitude, if you like that. Don't go there for Sodastream refills. Tarzian charges a full $10 more for Sodastream refills, and then gives you a $5 discount for exchanging them for an old canister. The logic behind it is that they replace them instead of refill them. When I told them that I usually pay $14 per refill they got snobby and claimed that online places charge me $8 for shipping which is BS. $24 instead of $14??? Come on! read more

Amazing kitchen supply store in Park Slope. It is packed to the gills with amazing kitchenware. The staff is exceedingly nice and helpful. When I told them I had just found someone's wallet in the park and that I was returning it to the owner, they gave me a 15% discount for my good deed!!! How cool is that??!!! I came specifically for some nice glassware (which they had exactly what I needed), but I saw so much amazing stuff here. They have a great selection of copper cookware, chef knives, and every type of gadget or utensil you can imagine. If I only had a better job, I could come to Tarzian and stock my kitchen right!! This is a great spot, it's pricey but you're getting high quality wares for your money. If I'm in need of something specific for the kitchen this is my go to place from now on. read more
