Where does he get the audacity? The cashier you're yelling at isn't in charge of purchasing, and as a grown adult who is cognizant of holiday buying patterns, consider doing your shopping earlier. Or Rebecca G who pretended she was turned away "thirty" minutes before the store closed, when you just know she arrived in full Karen mode as they were counting the tills but expected the staff to stay late. Money doesn't buy class, Rebecca G. It is a bookstore. They sell books, some that are hard to source elsewhere. It is staffed by nice human beings that love books but sometimes have a bad day so we will give them grace for not genuflecting and kissing our backsides just for shopping there. I'm living in an era where, though I read a lot, I've been buying fewer and fewer physical books. When I can have a library of a hundred books on my iPhone, or a couple thousand on my computer, it's only a few sentimental books that occupy my shelves. One of my main exceptions to primarily buying (or at least reading) digital copies is art books and TASCHEN is a rare treat for those looking for them. It offers a wide variety of books devoted to art history, ranging from those that focus on the Western Canon, to Erotica and Esoterica. You can find books on Alfons Mucha, Jan van Eyeck and Dali, to 70's era advertisement, to retrospectives on the art of Tarot cards. The cost of the books have a fairly wide range, especially given some of the books are absolutely enormous. However, most of the books, for the quality of the imagery, are quite affordable. Tell you about Taschen? This quaint clock tower on top bookshop is filled with lavish picture books, catalogs, novels, slices of history, cinema, comics... You name it! And all at reasonable prices considering how massive some of the books are in stock and on display. The store itself is pretty small in size making walking the room in a circle your best way to navigate though depending on the time of day you might encounter less foot traffic... Either way just soak it up, enjoy the rotating collection as well as the sensational service you'll experience every time! I didn't plan for so many wonderful books I'd want to purchase this time, but will be doubling back for their current sale soon. Some great film books this filmmaker would appreciate as well as some incredible comic-book/graphic novels and how-to reading material. You can enter through either door but the east-facing side (also The Grove facing) are the doors that are usually propped open. Easy parking next to or near the Original Farmer's Market, The Grove as well as some limited street parking throughout. The gentleman they had on staff was SO helpful and informative and went above and beyond to answer our questions and made us feel so welcome. And this was an hour before closing. It's very rare these days especially in LA for people to go above and beyond in retail and this gentleman really did just that. Bought a fabulous Film Noir retrospective and will definitely be back. read more

I came here on a whim, and I'm happy I did. Most of the selection is higher end. It seems like this location focuses on art books of all types and coffee table books that mirror art and architecture in many many forms. I found the layout small ,but that's perfect for me because sometimes I don't need 1000 choices One book in practicular that caught my eye was a book about the original supermodel Ms. Naomi Cambell . I loved seeing that. I ended up selecting a book about architecture, and I'm satisfied with my purchase. read more

While I love the brand and buying lots of books, the girl who works here in this location, Dina, was Rude and provides Zero in customer assistance. I came in at their noon opening time to buy 6 books during their sale that I have in my online cart (but just wanted to buy in person due to instant satisfaction). No "hello, hi or welcome", but whatever) Unfortunately they happened to be out of all 6 that I wanted- no big deal as my online cart is a click away. When I asked for parking validation she immediately looked up from from whatever she was doing and snapped "validation is only with purchase!" I replied that I would have purchased, but they didn't have any of the 6 books I wanted. I only got a blank stare back, so I walked out. REALLY??? You can't validate a parking ticket??? Such a sour attitude. Definitely avoiding spending any time or money here again. While the books are pricey, each one is truly a work of art which could easily be seen as a piece of decoration for your home or coffee table. Depending on what it is that you do or aspire to, these books may be seen as your go to reference guides, but bless you that you have that kind of career and capital! Oh, in case you're not familiar, the books range in topics from fashion to pop culture, film to fine art. Yes, there's a "Big Butt Book" and it too is done quite artistically. Tachen books don't quite get read nor does one visit the shop to read...it's really a feast for the eyes! Me and my husband love to shop at the Farmers Market location (we stop by at the Beverly Hills one when we're in the area). This store has a cute spot, small store in the middle of everything, underneath the clock tower. Parking- Farmer Market's lot. For years we got great books from this store, I bought my husband several as gifts that he cherishes. The selection was great, interesting, prices were good. We bought a lot of cinema related books, but also art, photography, travel, design related ones. Lately, I noticed a tendency of publishing great books, but super expensive (over $500) and less and less interesting books for under $50. Since the recession started, they brought more and more expensive books on the market. Shouldn't it be the other way around? The big expensive books are great to look through and I'm sure they're enjoyed by those that can afford them, but I liked the tendency that Taschen had for a while in the mid 2000's of publishing interesting books, at a reasonable price, around 10 or 20 dollars. There might be some wealthy collectors out there, but most of their readers and buyers are artists or people who don't have that type of cash, especially since the economy is so bad. Maybe they can go back to that time (just a few years ago) and continue some of those series or come up with new ones in those lines. It seems like they phased out a great collection, the small travel editions like: Greece Style, Mexico style, etc. I thought they'd go deeper and explore more destinations, but I noticed less and less books published in that collection and lately nothing new! It's gone! My point is: I hope they'll continue to do series that are affordable and start new ones. We didn't buy one book at Taschen last year or this year! It's disappointing! That's why my rating is lower that I would have liked for this store! read more

This book publisher routinely puts out books that make the most mundane of subjects look more beautiful, interesting and cool than you ever imagined. I particularly love their Icons books, which are concise but detailed 5" by 7" hardcovers for $9.99 on every subject from Tiki Style, to Robert Doisneau, to 20th Century Design and everything artistic in between. Their larger books can be pricey (I have my eyes glued to the $125 Santiago Calatrava book they just put out, but for now it will remain eye candy only) but are excellent quality. The space here is small but made up for by the exquisite books held inside. read more

I went in to buy gifts for clients for the holidays. I really don't know much about art or the books in general. The woman that helped me was terrific! She spent so much time recommending several books to me to choose from. I really appreciated her patience with me because I was a little overwhelmed and had no idea what to choose. When I apologized for taking up so much of her time she told me not to apologize and was having fun showing off all the books to me. 5 star customer service!!! Keep up the great work. This is my little oasis in the craziness that's the Farmer's Market. I have a great affinity for Taschen's books and always gravitate here to explore an artist or some far off place, even if only for a few moments. When they have sales, all bets are off and I undoubtedly take home more books than I can carry comfortably. One of the best things about living in a city with a Taschen store is the bi-annual warehouse sale, where everything is is 50 to 75% off. Incredible! For $101, I was able to get 9 books- most of which are of the big, gorgeous hardcover variety that normally retail for $30+. I think they usually run these sales in January and June, so keep your eyes peeled. read more

Taschen books are always well put together and cover a variety of interesting topics, however, the selection at this shop was only decent. There were a TON of the artist/designer focused mini-books but it seemed that the "coffee-table book" selection was only a drop in the bucket. Also, parking to get into Farmer's Market/The Grove SUCKS. Seriously, I lost count of how many women I saw carrying dogs... THEY EVOLVED WITH LEGS FOR A REASON. read more
