Delicious flavor, friendly people, large portions. My sister was craving Jamaican food so we decided to try out a new (to us) spot in Hagerstown. We were looking for a spot that had good vegetarian options for our friends. I'm not super familiar with Jamaican cuisine beyond Jerk Chicken and rice and peas so I tried to pick some things that sounded good. I ordered over the phone and they were very patient with me not being able to pronounce everything perfectly but they took their time and made sure to get our order completely. They were super friendly and the food was ready to pick up quickly! We tried the Coco Bread which was huge as well as nice and sweet and fluffy. We also tried a vegetarian patty which had a great flaky crust on the outside. Next we tried the Ital Stew which I wasn't sure what it would be exactly but he said it would be a variety of mixed vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and had a very mild but great flavor! There were so many of them in the portion as well! The rice and peas were tender yet not overcooked at all, and deliciously seasoned... they had a hint of heat in the aftertaste that was very pleasant. My sister got the Brown Stew chicken with mac and cheese and rice and peas. The brown stew chicken was HUGE... had a nice sweet flavor and the chicken was tender falling off the bone. The mac and cheese was very good. You can tell it's homemade, in a good way. Like your favorite aunt whos been making it for years made it for the cookout. The steamed callaloo was an unexpected favorite for the table. We absolutely loved it- the greens were cooked perfectly and we felt it had a very light tasting flavor as opposed to some lard/bacon heavy methods of cooking greens like that. It doesn't taste overly vegetable-y either... I think little kids would even like it. And then a pleasant buzz from the heat of some peppers. The jerk chicken also had a pleasant heat, and again a huge portion for what was called a "small"!! There was also a nice tangy sauce on the side. All in all... the people were very nice and the food was so delicious! I love finding a place where I can eat vegetables that are cooked in a flavorful and healthy way. On top of that, the food is affordable and you definitely get what you pay for... everything was huge! I would definitely recommend Taste of Reggae. read more

I gave 5 stars before smh. They have fallen off so bad. They never have anything or the just don't make it any more. I can call and ask for 3 different dishes and nope. I ordered the large Curry goat with pea and rice and Mac and cheese. I also purchased a Coco Bread. Being born and raised in the Caribbean this food is an insult to the culture. The cashier was extremely nice lady and their service was great. The only thing that was ok was the peas and rice and the coco bread. The goat was not curried, and the potatoes was so mashed that they soaked up what curry sauce may have been there. There was red pepper flakes on the goat which is not a seasoning used in curry goat. The goat was not even "wet" and seemed to be grill then put on top curried potatoes. The mac and cheese looked good but noodles lacked flavor and the cheese didn't have the authentic flavor of a Caribbean baked mac and cheese. Just being spicy does not a Caribbean food make... my food was TRASH! highly disappointed. First off, i ordered this terrible food through UberEats, the person that UberEats was sending was NOT the person that delivered my food! I ordered the large curry chicken, rice and peas with Rasta Pasta, the chicken still had feathers on it, the Rasta Pasta was dry and the rice and peas tasted like it sat for too long, granted they give you a lot of food but if the food is nasty it's not worth it. The second order was jerk chicken, mac and cheese with cabbage. The mac and cheese was dry, it had no flavor whatsoever and the cabbage was overcooked with a huge red pepper on the bottom of it. I wish this place is in my area! Went to Hagerstown to see the fireworks and this was the only restaurant that's open on the fourth! The owner is super welcoming and gave us many samples to try! I literally tried all the meat samples before we ordered. He walked out of the counter and introduced us the menu. The only good thing I can say is the lady at the cash register is so sweet! Other than that, I paid $53 for 3 entrees and the food was the worst Jamaican food I've ever had, coming from a Jamaican! The rice & peas were mushy and the beans were hard/extremely dry. The oxtails you can tell are cheap as they're small and the meat itself was also over-cooked/dry. The plantains were ALSO dry and didn't taste remotely sweet as they're supposed to. And the "gravy" was full of so much grease, I could see the separation of the grease sitting on top of the gravy. This place is straight FIRE! If you're in town , you need to try this place out. Food is delicious , portions are big & price is fair. Customer service was fantastic. The music was on point. To be honest I stayed another hour after I finished my food because the employees & customers there were great to be around. Jerk chicken was amazing . I was visiting Hagerstown for the weekend and was looking for Jamaican food that was just as good as my favorite Jamaican restaurant back home. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! The jerk chicken was absolutely the best and pretty much beats the jerk chicken from my favorite Jamaican spot back home. The chicken is so tender and flavorful . I also tried their jerk pasta for the first time which was also amazing. The staff was friendly and patient with me being so indecisive. This place is a true gem!! Stumbled upon it by accident and ended up returning the next 3 weekends straight. Totally worth the 45min drive from where I was staying in PA. Hard enough to find Jamaican food in those parts let alone REALLY GOOD Jamaican food. The Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken, and Callalloo have got to be some of the best I've ever had.
