Tastin Round Town provided us with a "Taste of Downtown Memphis Food Tour". Taylor, our food tour guide and owner, provided us with a nice sampling of five restaurants located on Beale Street. We visited Dyer's Burgers, Blues City Cafe, Kings Palace Cafe, Rum Boogie Cafe and A. Schwabs. The tour provided more than ample delicious samples of deep-fried cheeseburgers, milk shakes, ribs, jumbo chicken wings, gumbo and gelato. Taylor also gave us recommendations and suggestions on several additional Beale Street restaurants we did not visit on the Food Tour. To say the least, our stomachs were more than full when the tour ended. I recommend this tour to anyone who visits Menphis. You will not be disappointed. read more

This was mine and my wife's first food tour. Harper was our guide and he set the bar high. We sampled way more variety than I thought we would. BBQ Spaghetti was the opening act. We ate ribs, gumbo, BBQ nachos, red beans and rice and I'm not sure what else. Last but not least we stopped by Dyers for a burger. It's not BBQ but it's definitely part of Memphis and was so good! We were lucky to be the only two on this tour. Touring Memphis with Harper was like walking around with an old friend. It felt like we were the three amigos instead of a tour group. Harper shared a lot of Memphis' history during the tour which was super interesting. He is definitely proud of Memphis and it shows. We are beyond happy with our experience and absolutely recommend Tastin' Round Town food tours. read more

My wife and I have done a lot of food tours across the south. This one was by far the best. Taylor was knowledgeable, entertaining, and (most importantly) treated us like humans, not just customers. The stories she told us about the locations we visited, along with things we passed by on the tour, were incredibly fun. They're also the kinds of things that you'd only hear from someone who was native to the area, which is a huge plus for this kind of thing. We love food and thought this would be a great way to taste a variety of what Memphis had to offer. We met Taylor, the owner and our guide, along with five other people and started walking to Beale St. We got a good mix of history along with the food, and some live music too! Five stops gave us a burger, gumbo, smoked wings, ribs, and fudge to round it out. The time flew by, and we were sorry to have it end! All the food was delicious, and Taylor was very personable and knowledgeable. We've never taken a food tour before, but it will be hard for anyone to beat this one. What an amazing experience. We had a blast. It was a great way to learn the rich history of Memphis while walking around town and enjoying amazing BBQ. Harper was part historian, part comedian, part pit master, part barbecue judge and full-time Memphis. This is a great activity to do in Memphis! It is a family business ran by Lance and his wife Carol. We did the bbq food tour and it was fantastic! Lance was our tour guide, he was very friendly and knowledgable about bbq and memphis history. Fun fact: Lance is a judge for bbq competitions so he really knows good bbq! Read on for spoilers: Blues Cafe: Here we enjoyed ribs. They were absolutely delicious. I would definitely come back to this restaurant for some ribs! Central BBQ: We had ribs and bbq nachos. The nachos are a must! The Bar-B-Q Shop: Known for thier bbq sphagetti. Definitely worth trying once in your life! Surprisingly really good! The Pig on Beale: here we tried a pulled pork sandwich, it was delicious. Cozy Corner BBQ: the ribs were tasty A&R: lance brought A&R to us to save time, we had a shredded roast beef sandwich. So I had a rare opportunity for no kids weekend, bought tickets on Friday evening then immediately realized I had selected the next weekend. I called when they opened explaining what happened. And they said they would refund and they understood. Week or more went by, texted, called and emailed. All communication was kind and assured me the return would happen. It didn't had to call my credit card company to reverse charges. I really wanted to try the experience but it's a lesson I've learned and now avoid businesses with polices like this unless I can order tickets the day of. My mistake on the date, I own that but as soon as I knew I communicated and was promised a refund that didn't take place without me having to call my credit card company. read more

Went on this tour with my adult kids and their partners last summer. It was fabulous! We met at a hotel, where the the tour guide/owner brought us a delicious sample from a local place. We then went on to go to several other places to try delicious Memphis foods! While we were walking to the different places, he pointed out sooo many buildings and the history in those buildings. We went by the hotel In Which MLK was shot and were given sooo much information and history! I would have never thought this would happen on a food tour. All of the food places were delicious and again, this tour was more than food. You can tell the owner/ tour guide LOVES his city and that made the tour even more enjoyable. read more

We did the BBQ tour today. It was amazing. Our tour guide, Harper, was fun and very knowledgeable. We saw key sites around downtown and learned a lot about the history of Memphis. Harper also provided recommendations for restaurants and attractions. Expect quite a bit of walking and be sure you are hungry. We have done food tours in numerous cities and countries. I previously did a food tour in Seattle and was not disappointed. Given that the girlfriend and I were only in town for 36 hours and love to eat, we thought this would be a great experience as most food tours tend to give you some great samples from several local restaurants. We did the Taste of Memphis tour and hit up 6 restaurants around Beale st. We had bbq nachos, burger, a flight of dessert shooters, mac and cheese and more. Everything was great and Lance our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a lot of nice background on the restaurants and the history of Memphis that lead up to how it was that day. Be warned though, there is a bit of walking to get to each restaurant, although the furthest distance between two restaurants is just a few blocks, but there are several restaurants. Lance also talked about how he's developing other tours and I would not hesitate to check them out in the future. read more

My husband and I took the barbecue tour during a recent trip to Memphis. It was a highlight of our trip! Perfect mix of food and local history. Our guide Harper was a Memphis native whose love for his city was infectious. We tried five or six different restaurants and a few other stops along the way. Our tour guide, Harper was amazing. We visited five restaurants. All the restaurants were good with Central Barbecue and Blue City cafe being my favorite. We also had an added stop... Beale Sweets-Sugar Snacks which was very tasty. Southern Hospitality at its finest... Honestly if you've never been to Memphis, have come to Memphis 1000 times, or grew up here, the BBQ Tour by Tasting around Town is phenomenal! Our host was Harper born and raised local who knew all the history on BBQ and the Blues! The tour was packed full of history and flavour, he knew just where to take us! I will be booking the half and half tour before we go! Truly if your visiting Memphis this is a MUST, if you're headed to Memphis on a first time trip I'd go on this tour before Graceland, and maybe even before the Museum of Civil Rights (both are MUST see's), Harper was so authentic about what it was like growing up here, it's so amazing to hear a locals journey! We met up with the amazing Taylor in the lobby and things could not have gone more awesome. She was so incredibly sweet, funny and knowledgeable about the city and the food. Memphis could not ask for a better ambassador. Then the food- the food people was yummy, it was just me and my hubby and Taylor and it felt like we went to a great lunch with a friend who knew the best spots. It's hours later and I'm still full!! Lance was a fantastic tour guide for our BBQ food tasting tour. We went to 6 different restaurants and he selected his favorites which we enjoyed!!! In addition to the standard fare of BBQ Memphis Pork sandwiches and ribs, we had BBQ spaghetti and BBQ egg rolls. The food was delicious and we would have never been able to get to the number or quality of restaurants especially with his VIP service at each restaurant which got us seated promptly and food served ahead of everyone else. We really came away with knowledge on the history of BBQ in Memphis and the different nuances of different BBQ techniques from a very educated individual who also serves as a judge for the official Memphis BBQ contest each year. The bonus of the tour was that Lance providing the history of the Memphis downtown area and pointed out many of the historical area's as well as the current redevelopment plans for the City. Extremely interesting and we all came away from the tour with an extremely rewarding and tasty tour!!! Highly recommend this tour. It is part walking and part by transportation. We took the Memphis BBQ tour with Lance. We visited 6 different places serving style of bbq. Two of the places had unique, to us, dishes: one was bbq nachos which consisted of tortilla chips layered with pulled pork, bbq sauce & cheese; the second was bbq spaghetti which consisted of smoked pasta, pulled pork & sauce. It was a truly wonderful experience. Lance educated us on cooking methods, sauces & rubs, along with history of Memphis & her neighborhoods. A tour like this is fantastic for anyone that loves food, but only has a short time in Memphis and wants to try a ton of restaurants! We were able to taste great menu items from six different restaurants (three BBQ places, three local joints) in the South Main district - all delicious! There wasn't one thing we didn't enjoy. The company was even better, as both Debbie and Carol were gracious tour guides that were friendly with the restaurant owners and staff, as well as provided historic back stories about each restaurant we visited. It's a great mix of local flavor - a true taste of Memphis! - and the history of the great little city on the Mississippi. This is the second tour I've done with Tastin' Round Town, and I look forward to bringing more of my visitors on future tours! read more
