I love Tasty Jerk, really my go to. food is fresh and can see everything what's going on as they're preparing your food. Well mannered staff. HOWEVER There's a young girl working there and she wears a bonet with her edges out?! i really suggest they sort this matter out as her hair could still end up in the food. I love my spicy food but I know a lot of people just can't take it so!. Beware!! their sauce is extremely hot, when their ask you If would like sauce with your food then ask them to put it on the side!! You won't be able to handle it all over your food trust me!! leave it to the pros! They use a drum grills to get that smokey authentic taste. Tasty Jerk is a small "take out" (or "take away") only place that specializes in jerk chicken, fish, and pork. The restaurant is super tiny and basically consists of a counter and a 4-5 jerk smokers/grills. They are known for their pepper sauce, which is tasty and will satisfy your craving no matter what your desired level of spiciness may be. The sauce is extremely hot so they will only give you a little but don't be scared to ask for more if you are daring. I like to mix the BBQ and pepper sauce together. I tried the jerk tilapia and an order of rice & peas with extra gravy. The tilapia was a very good size and cooked just right. The entire meal was wonderful! I wish we had smell-o-vision for this place. The smoke stack above this tiny shack of a place omits an aroma of jerked meats on your approach. The chicken I had tonight smelled so good I actually enjoyed it being around before I ate it... Smoked on site and chopped up in front of you to fit into a food container, be wary of pieces of bone with their jerked meats. The service was sweet. read more

Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork, Jerk Goat, Jerk Tilapia, Jerk Lobster. You name it, they Jerk it and they jerk it fine inside smoking barrel BBQs that fill this takeaway with pungent Caribbean smoke. From the road from Thornton Heath it can often look like the BP is on fire as the black smoke rises up in front of Selhurst Park Stadium, but it's not another oil rig disaster, just lovely fatty meat cooking in spices. We went for the £9 mix portion of chicken, pork and goat with a small rice and beans and a plantain side. Everything was cooked soft and succulent and the pork was especially bad in a good way, with melt-in-the mouth fat. It was definitely a meal not to have every day. Looking forward to my next visit, and hoping that next time I can get more hot sauce. The one criticism from my first try was that it was all a little bare without sauce and the delicious fiery sweet hot (but bareable) sauce was provided as a pretty minimal portion. This Carribean take away rocks!! If you enjoy some hot and tasty jerk meat right off the oil drum grill then this is the place to be. We ordered the jerk pork and the mix meat (pork, chicken and goat) jerk and we were not disappointed. The meats were cooked adequately but not dry and chewy. The taste of the marinate soaked the meat leaving it to taste finger licking good and spicy. My only gripe about this place aside from its location being remote are the people working here. We did not find them as friendly or welcoming to the customers. Overall, I recommend them if you want a good jerk meat. read more

Having moved to San Diego Califonia there are very few things I miss about London. Don't get me wrong I am South London and proud but when I really think about it "food" is the biggest thing i miss. Number 1 on the list is our weekly stop at Tasty Jerk either before but usually after a Palace home game. I have eaten jerk chicken and pork all over London and this is by far my favourite. Cooked in oil drum barbeques and hacked to bits by a massive cleaver before being covered in barbeque sauce and eaten on the wall out front. Not a huge fan or their rice and peas so I usually get a festival or two for my carbs and to mop up juice and sauce with. Tast Jerk Centre will be my first stop when I visit London. read more

Unfortunately, my chicken was smashed to pieces so every mouth fully was accompanied with a sharp broken chicken bone so I did not find the end result very enjoyable. Was so excited to buy Jerk from that place since Friday. Arranged with my son that we will make it this Sunday .So excited we went.. the smell from outside was nice but the place yukkk looks dirty.. but still I insisted and went.. not advisable for those who do not eat beef or pork. I don't but the fact that everyone said its nice.. I still bought it.. they don't have a dedicated drum bbq equipment for chicken only..all seemed to be mixed up purchased the jerk and went home I placed them on plates.. was not impressed about the rice. its fat rice.. and the chicken was less butchered into pieces.. after eaten I went straight to toilet.. my son had to leave his food and went to toilet in the middle of eating it has been 3 hours since I eaten..already went to toilet 3 times.. the food is not worthy for £7.50 we spent £15.00.. what a waste.. this is the first and last I work in southwark and bought Jerk chicken and rice.. in the park near waterlook station its far nicer and more chicken..and that also include salad. for less money I wouldn't go to this place Tasty Jerk again.. read more

Whenever i am in SE London, Its almost a ritual to stop by Tasty Jerk. Its the best Jerk Chicken i can get my hands on in this part of the globe. This place is always packed and there is always some jerk chicken on the grill being sprayed with liquids and flipped at the same time. On this occasion my brother and i decided to just go for the Chicken, Rice and Peas and ordered some planain on the side and dont forget to get the spicy sauce on top of your chicken. Now this place is a take out restaurant so no need to look for a place to sit so just hurry up and get your food and hit the car. Try to avoid this place when a premiership game is going on in the vicinity. I have also tried the Oxtail and the Curry goat and i can vouch for it too . read more

I take my kids up to my ex-wife's most weekends, and from where we live in Sussex to her place in Herne Hill, this is on the way. A stone's throw from Crystal Palace's ground it sits there spewing smoke like a coal fired power station from the huge vent fan in the roof. I just had to check it out. Inside is like the boiler room of a ship with three huge oil drum barbecues on the go with the smoke being drawn away by the fan. It's dark smoky and primeval, and always packed. You just have to try it. Small jerk chicken - about as much as you'd get in a standard Indian/Chinese take-away container is £4.50 at the time of writing (October 2010) and is seriously good. I'll try some rice next time, and maybe some pork. There's more to jerk than Levi Root's sauce, and this is the place to find it. read more
