This is my second time at this gaming store and noticed some new item implemented into their arsenal of games and figures. Last time I was here the game room to the right was filled with kids playing board and card games. Today it was empty but school is still in session. Tate's Comics was having a huge outside tent comics and action figure event and saw the Tate's Gaming Satellite store in the plaza and wanted to take a peek...I walked into the store and to the right was a massive open room with tables and chairs with people playing Dungeons & Dragons type games with cards and dice. They looked like they were having a blast. The left side of the store had a long check out counter with friendly staff. Then I see tall racks of games and smaller tables of every type of dice imaginable. Many cool large and small action figures and shirts too. This is a must see location if youre traveling through University Drive. read more

I called the store regarding the modern Magic the Gathering store championship and asked what time it started. I was told it had already started and was in the 2nd round. After I had gotten home, I checked their Facebook page and called the shop again stating their page says 6:30, to which the employee responded, "Oh, the magic event! That starts at 6:30." I asked the employee if it'd be fine if I showed up a little late since I had just turned around to go home when I was told the event started, noting my GPS says 6:36 arrival time. The employee said that was fine and I gave him my name. After arriving at the store and paying for entree, my companion app told me I had a match loss. I talked with the employees which they said that since I had arrived at 6:39, I was issued a match loss. Normally I'd be fine with receiving a loss due to arriving late, however after being told it would be fine, as well not not being told by anyone that I would receive a match loss at any point while signing up, I probably won't play at this store again. I did receive a refund, so it's not a total loss, but as my first impression of this game store, I'd say that I'm not a fan. TLDR: Store told me it'd be fine to arrive late, proceeded to issue me a loss anyway, and never told me that I received a loss. read more

Mom...Can you take me to Tate's so I can battle my Pokemon cards with my friends? Ummmmmm-- I don't think that's what Tate's is little dude. Mimmmmmmmmmm, plllleeeeeeeasse, all my friends are going. Ok-I didn't know I kids made plans like this so young! Off to Tate's we went. Wow, it's a huge room with a bunch of tables, and a bunch of kids- young and old- that are into these card games. Pokemon, Magic, Dungeons and Dragons, and all the rest. My son was able to spend about $100 bucks of my hard earned money on some highly coveted EX Pokemon cards, and the guy working was so friendly and nice. Well, the playing area was roomy, and there were a few snacks at very reasonable prices. There was no pressure to buy anything, you could totally just meet there and play cards. I actually enjoyed sitting there and watching him play with people he knew and new friends. No weird creepers were around, and a comfortable vibe. This place is awesome. I came here once with some friends, spent about four hours, and had a wonderful experience. This is how it went down: - entered and walked past several long tables at which people were engaging in various forms of analog and video gaming - went straight back to the shelf of board games, all of which are free to play - picked a game (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37111/battlestar-galactica - it was pretty fun!) - sat at an open table - occasionally went up to the counter for snacks and drinks (total spent: $1.50) - had hours of Good Clean Fun (GCF) in a comfortable, consensual environment Whatever your brand of gaming -- board games, card games, fighting games, D&D, MTG, Warhammer, surely many others -- they probably have it covered, along with a really chill atmosphere to enjoy your games. I imagine during tournaments (http://www.tatesgaming.com/) it gets more lively. I guess you may be disappointed if you're looking for a high-touch customer service-based shopping experience. The main store is like a mini convention everyday...this shop is decent enough for items but I've never had good service. They tend to ignore you until you have a purchase ready, and their prices are nothing to write to anyone about... ( except I suppose me writing to you ;D) When the newest in a long string of managers has come through they promised some tournaments... Then sent me to talk to new people in charge... Who knew nothing of the hobby and could give me no information. They do nothing for you that coolstuff doesn't do for Internet pricing. (They do have terrain tbh.) read more

It may be a fun place for some, but the service and upper management are terrible. Every time I've visited, the staff generally ignore my existence even when I try to purchase something at the register. I spoke to Tate himself about this, and he immediately insulted me directly as well as my father instead of calmly and rationally addressing the issue. He was completely immature in how he handled my polite, constructive feedback, and he's repeatedly and unjustly removed my review from this page. Go have fun at your tournaments. Just know that you're supporting a man with no integrity and the emotional maturity of a 12 year old every time you buy something from his establishment. read more

This place is medium size. A lot of people playing or trading cards over we here. They are actually open up to people ordering food and delivering over here. They actually have a book of restaurants to order up. Just warning ya, this place smells like sausage man feat and no great smell to ya. Update- the smell is getting way better now! read more

My girlfriend and I have only been here a few times (we live in West Palm), but we enjoy browsing through the enormous selection of board games here. We also appreciate that they have some free-to-play board games available in their gaming area (I've always wanted to try Fury of Dracula!). The gaming satellite may not leave you in awe like the comic book store next door, but it's definitely a quality board game store, and in my experience, it's only rivaled by Past Present Future in WPB regarding South Florida gaming stores with quality selections. read more

Just stopped by on my way back to fort myers (which lacks anything close to as cool as this little place) I have to say that I was there for little less than an hour and enjoyed myself the whole time. They have a section of the store parted off for gaming tables and such which, if I didn't live 3 hours away, would be my weekend home. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff and asked if I needed help, I browsed for a bit picking up some great custom sleeves for my cards. Went over to the counter and asked if they had a certain card I was looking for. He was able to look the card up and see where it could be - in a price marked box, which was unorganized making it hard to find a specific card but after a while I was having a pretty good time looking through the cards and talking with the guy. Even though I didn't find the card I was looking for I got a couple other awesome cards at a great price. Plainly put I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area, and even I now count this place as a sole reason to make the trip to lauderhill. My only true regret is that I hadn't waited another day to go so that I could have had more money from my paycheck! Check this place out and you won't regret it! read more

I came here on a lark looking for a display case for a trading card I was giving as a gift. I'd heard rave reviews, so I thought I'd check it out! It seems I arrived in the middle of a tournament or a game night. Understandable, given the business. I wandered around, checked out the wares, and went up to the counter to inquire about the display case. The two attendants never acknowledged me in the several minutes I stood there. Both were eating pizza and talking with their mouths full. One gentleman was discussing rules with a gaggle of people, and the lady seemed to be doing nothing in particular. Not very classy. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this and I'll visit again sometime. But my most recent experience was a big turn-off. Granted, it's not Saks 5th Ave, but a "Welcome to Tates!" or a just a "How ya doin?" isn't much to ask for. ------- I originally posted the above review to the Tate's Comics listing, not realizing that there was another for the Tate's Gaming Satellite; my apologies to the staff at the comics store. The manager, or some such person, emailed me back expressing his condolences, so kudos for that. I HAVE been back a couple times but have had only marginally better service, ie I haven't been completely ignored at the counter and was actually able to purchase something. The good thing about this store is the fact that it's physically THERE, and you don't have to wait for something in the mail. They have a good selection and all kinds of accessories, sometimes more than online vendors! Also, if I were a tournament player I would love this place much more, as it store clearly has something going on all the time. But, I still do think the staff could get some pointers in customer service. Again a "Hey there!" or a "Can I get anything else for you?" would go a long way. Disgusted. The only term that comes to mind when I think about my experience at Tates. The supervisor/owner is incredibly rude to his staff. When I visited the store, he was throwing a tantrum yelling and cursing at his staff (the majority were young high-school kids!) I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. I was disgusted by his bullying, name-calling behavior. I will never shop there again. Behavior like this cannot be tolerated. read more

The place seems small but it's very roomy and really cool to hang out. Plenty of room to game - their inventory is pretty stocked too! One of the top places to hang out in South Florida. If you're a real regular, you're probably known by name. Place is constantly playing movies and games in the background to keep a friendly atmosphere. I asked about a discontinued card game called "Versus" and they gave me plenty of information and resources on where I can find a couple of copies. This is one of the best places you can spend your time at if you like playing card games. Me and my friends have a blast coming here all the time and hanging out, eating some snacks and making friends with the rest of the customers there. It's a great, friendly environment. They also have a lot of Weiss Schwarz, which is a game I am obsessed with and no one else in South Florida seems to have a good selection of. The only negatives are that some of the cards can be a bit pricey and it does get very crowded sometimes but besides that it's great. read more

Let me just say, I am not a gamer. I know the words RPGs and mini figs and heroclix and dungeons and dragon, and I know these are games people play that involve a lot of imagination and rolling dice and writing things down. That being said, my brother is into gaming and I stopped by the store to get him a birthday gift. I am a regular shopper at Tate's comics and always have a nice experience there. I walked in the store and was immediately welcomed by a warm hello from the man behind the counter. He asked if I need help, and I said I was just looking (since I wanted to look around before asking anything). He said just holler if I needed anything. The store setup is very nice, half of it is product and half is just an area for people to play the games. I thought that was very cool to dedicate half the space to that! I looked around and saw that everything was neatly organized (even though I'm not sure what half the stuff was). I was surprised to find a section dedicated to regular board games. Games I do understand. I'll have to remember that come Christmas time. After walking around for a few minutes, I went up to the counter and asked the man for help. His name was Sal, and his name tag was clearly visible. I like when I can easily tell who works in a shop. I told him what my brother requested, I now can't remember what it was, but Sal knew right away what it was and got it for me, he even suggested an extra item, that I went along with and was a hit with my brother. Check out was easy and I was able to also buy a bottle of water. Before I left though, I needed to use the restroom. I' m 22 weeks pregnant and I have to use the restroom all the time, I wouldn't usually in a place like this. Sal showed me where it was and held my items at the counter for me. I was surprised at the cleanliness of the bathroom. I was even surprised that they had hot water. Afterwards, I grabbed my purchases and Sal thanked me for coming in. What a nice store! read more

I needed a gift for my nephew who is heavy into gaming and comics. I am not a gamer, but know a little about comics and was excited to learn that Tate's had a gaming satellite. Last Saturday, I took a ride down there with my nephew to buy him a birthday present. I was immediately impressed by several factors. Firstly, I was greeted by an employee as soon as we walked in. Next, I was able to see that the layout of the store was super user friendly. Of course my nephew ran straight toward the section where he could play games! I chatted with Katelyn (her name tag was visible) as to the reason we were there and if there was anything she could help with. She knew exactly where everything was and offered to show me around (which was one of the other factors I was impressed with about Tate's.) I explained that I would like to wait for my nephew to play a little and then he can decide what he would like for his birthday. To my surprise and relief this was not a problem. Katelyn's excellent customer service encouraged me to buy at Tate's. I ended up with two games for my nephew and with the holiday season coming up, that can only mean that I will be back at Tate's very soon to buy more read more
