As a former pageant competitor, I've had a lot of dresses altered! And Tatyana is by far the best seamstress and alterations specialist I have ever encountered! Once I put on the dress, Tatyana knew immediately what needed to be done and fixed. She asked me for my preference on fit, length, and adjustments (she recommended adding a bustle, which was a huge plus for the reception). She absolutely delivered! I was hopeful that Tatyana would do a spectacular job because of these amazing reviews, but I was sorely disappointed. After doing some measurements, she told me that she would call me back to try on the adjustments she made. After two weeks, I called to check in on my dress and she called me a few days later at 10PM leaving me a message stating that she cut into my dress and that I forgot to give her fabric to fix. I gave her everything I had so I was shocked. I called her back and tried to clarify that we had no agreed on cutting anything in the back. Turns out, it was another bride and that she had not touched my dress at all. I was livid because my dress was just hanging out at her home for no reason. My mother and I came the next day and noticed her rushed job that she got through over night and she kept complaining how she's so busy and gets everyone mixed up. If she was too busy, she shouldn't have taken on the job. The dress covered in fuzz from the dirty carpet she has and the cat that sits on her fabrics in her sewing room. I didn't want her to work on my dress any further and had to take it to someone else less than a week before my wedding. Maybe she will work out ok for you, but I wouldn't risk it again. read more

I knew before my dress arrived that it would need to be altered around my waist and chest. The bridal salon said that they had someone they recommended, but being the type of person who likes to weigh ALL of her options I started doing some research online. After reading all the fabulous reviews on citysearch I was pleasantly surprised that Tatyana was the seamstress recommended by my bridal salon! I had no problem understanding Tatyana on the phone or finding her house with the very detailed directions that she gave me. She got right to work as soon as I arrived pinning and measuring. By the end I was surprised how affordable it was and felt completely and totally comfortable leaving my dress in her hands. The alterations took only 2 weeks and look amazing. Tatyana was able to take my extremely delicate (or "tender" as she called it!) lace dress and take it in to make it look like it was cut to fit me. It looks better than I could have ever imagined! *using my fiances yelp account b/c too lazy to sign up myself* I moved to HI in Jan, and I don't know any alterations and I didn't feel like looking for one that I could take a chance on for my wedding dress. Since I just happened to visit Portland a few weeks ago, I decided to bring my dress here and try to have Tatyana alter it. She came highly recommended from my sister who got her wedding dress altered, said she was a great price with attention to detail, and even gives suggestions to helping you save $$ by buying your own buttons etc and she'll just sew them on for you. So I emailed her a few wks before my 1 wk trip, made an appointment, saw her the 2nd day I was there, and the dress was done the day after! It wasn't a big ordeal or time consuming! I was hoping to change my A-line to a mermaid, but she recommended against it saying that due to the material of my dress, I would end up having to take baby steps and would be very uncomfortable when I sit down. She also recommended to just shorten the front so I have a little train in the back. My dress turned out fabulous, fits great, and I love it even more than before. Granted I don't think my alteration was that hard, nor was my dress material hard to work with....but I'm not a seamstress, so who knows. Regardless, I plan on going back to Tatyana so I can alter my wedding dress to a cocktail dress after the wedding! She operates out of her home, so when you pull up, don't look confused like I did :] Also she only took cash, not sure if she take credit card b/c I didn't ask. I immediately scheduled a fitting with Tatyana after I decided I wanted to support small business and read the great reviews of her work for us brides who needed alterations 20 days before the wedding (whoops, haha). Tatyana quickly welcomed me in and the fitting didn't take long at all. I can see how she can come off as a little intimidating like some reviews said, but I knew it was because she knows what she needs to do and is determined to do it really, really well. She charged me $300 for a job that probably could have cost too much at an established bridal tailor, which is pretty amazing. AND the best part? She did it in 2 DAYS. Insane!! I came back to pick it up and I was/am so happy with how beautifully it fit me! After reading all the great reviews I made an appointment with Tatyana for a wedding dress alteration. I could not have been more disappointed. When I arrived and tried on the dress I explained what needed to happen. I am very tall(over 6 feet) and the straps on the dress needed to be lengthen to drop the neck and bust line to the correct level. It also needed to be taken in on the back zipper. I very specifically explained how I wanted this done, and even had the material with me for her to use. She assured me it could be accomplished and should be done in about 3-5 business days. 8 business days later I called back asking about my dress, she put me on hold for 5 minutes finally coming back and letting me know she found my dress but I still had 3 weeks and since she got some 'rush' orders she moved mine down the que. I let her know I brought my dress in early so I would not have to worry about it, but again I was just dismissed. Another 4 days went by and I called back, again put on hold and when she returned pretty much said the same thing, plenty of time. Finally 3 weeks after I dropped the dress off, I called AGAIN and this time she assured me it would be done in 2 days. I called back two days later and finally she said it was complete and I could come the next day to pick it up. When I arrived and she pulled out the dress she had not done anything I had asked!! She totally altered the design without so much as asking me or discussing with me. Instead of lengthening the straps at the front as discussed, she CUT the back(they crossed) and added material to the middle of the back strap. And the material she added didn't even match!! The seam where she took in the back at the zipper buckled and wouldn't lay flat. After discussing I did try the dress on, and where she made the cut and added material was totally visible and looked ridicules. When I told her as much, her answer was "Well your hair is long and will cover the straps anyway!!" By this point I was crying and just wanted to get out of there. Since she had taken so long to do my dress, I was now only one week away from my wedding day. I had to scramble to find someone who could take a rush job, and ended up paying double to get it all fixed. According to the seamstress that fixed my dress, she was sure Tatyana just didn't want to deal with reattaching the strap at the front. She may do fine with simple fixes, but as a bride I would not wish this stress on anyone. Go elsewhere!! read more

Ok, so first of all let me say that Tatyana basically saved me from having a nervous breakdown. I came to her a week before we were to leave for another country for our wedding. I came to her with a common issue: I needed a last minute alteration. The dress I had was beautiful and fit....mostly everywhere. I thought I simply needed the bust taken out a bit. When I got to Tatyana, she told me she could take it out and it would take a day or two. But, after further inspection she realized that the person I had bought the dress from had perilously had the bust taken IN! What this meant was that there was no additional fabric to expand the bust, it had all been CUT OFF!!! I began to panic. She explained to me she could not do the simple alteration I had expected. She suggested putting a corset in. Although I LOVE corset dresses I was absolutely freaking at the thought of doing such a major alteration at the very last minute. She would have to remove the entire zipper and put the corset it. Finally, I agreed having no other option. She ushered me out of her home and down to the fabric store to buy the material. The fabric store didn't have the color in the correct fabric. I ended up buying the type of fabric she instructed me to buy as well as a yard of silk for her to sew on top of that to match my dress. I hesitantly left my dress in her hands until she called me two days later (I had given her 4 days to complete the project). I never dreamed that I would have my very own fairy godmother! I highly recommend Tatyana's Wedding Alterations to anyone with a dress in need of help. Most of all: If you appreciate a personal, special experience, you will be delighted! The cost is competitive and the results are AMAZING!!! Even if you think that all hope is lost for your dress, don't be afraid! She will be able to tell you what is possible and what will require extra work! She can help you!!! I found a dress that I fell in love with, or to be more exact: I found two of them in a small boutique in the mountains. They were identical, except that both were torn on opposite sides. The dress was also too small in the bust for me, and since it didn't have a zipper, I could barely get it on. I figured that it could be fixed with the help of a good seamstress, but the longer I waited to get it altered, the more concerned I got. The dress is a very light and delicate fabric with an even more delicate tooled overlay. I found Tatyana on the internet through her reviews. I took a deep breath and called her. She was happy to see me and my dresses that very week! Her house was down a short unmarked drive off of 135th, but the entrance to the shared drive is right across the street from a little park. Check out the approximate address on Google's street view and look for the park across the street from the turn in. She gave great directions, but if you have trouble understanding her through her accent over the phone, her husband is also very helpful and will be glad to give you directions. She welcomed me into her home and measured every bit of me and the dress. She looked up at me from the hemline with a smile and said, "I can make it for you." From that moment, I knew it was all going to be alright. She shared stories with me of many dresses past and told me how she was going to make my two torn dresses into my wedding gown. In three fittings, she shaped the two dresses into what I can only describe as my perfect dress! She added a zipper, replaced the torn panels and fixed the wacky hemline. She even remade the whole top so that it would fit me like a comfortable glove. I'm almost sad that it's my wedding dress because it is the most comfortable and perfectly lovely dress I have ever worn! Tatyana did amazing work at a great price and in a short time frame. I needed a corset back sewn into my wedding dress and some bra cups put in. During our first meeting we talked about what I wanted it to look like and what her thoughts were, then I went to get the necessary fabric and bring it back. Just a couple of weeks later, Tatyana called to let me know the dress was ready, so I came in for a fitting. We decided on a few small adjustments and then it was ready the next day. Tatyana was easy to get ahold of, did fantastic work, was clear with what time frame things would be done in and what the cost would be, and was accommodating to my schedule. Some reviewers have commented that it is difficult to find her location. I used Apple maps and was led easily to the correct place, but take the directions from Tatyana if you want to be sure! She encouraged me take photos for evidence to follow up with after the wedding and showed me exactly what she planned to do. She ended up taking an inch off of either side of the zipper of my dress and adding straps for comfort while dancing. She also fixed my hem as the previous seamstress had cut it unevenly. She not only fit me in, but completed my dress in no time. I was extremely anxious as I picked up my dress only 5 days before my wedding. The store I got the dress from recommended a seamstress so I figured she'd be good. Unfortunately, it was not so. Since I don't know anything about sewing, I didn't think very much when she only pinned one side of my dress instead of pinning both sides to take in the bust, waist and hips. I just thought that because the dress was asymmetrical, that's the way you had to fix it. I also followed her advice regarding the bustle. When I picked up the dress from the seamstress, I noticed that it was pretty tight around my chest, but I thought it was due to my excitement and that I was simply breathing too hard. I didn't bring anyone to help me (which was a huge mistake, I get that now) so I put it on, saw it, didn't notice anything weird in the 5 minutes I had it on so I left. I took the dress home and a couple of days later decided to put it on again just to see how it looked - I couldn't pull the zipper all the way up and I noticed some weird lumps around my waist (on the sides) and a pouch on the front of the dress (it is draped) that made me look like a mama kangaroo! Since I am very scared of turning into the stereotypical bridezilla, I thought I was just being crazy. I put it back in the closet and tried it on two days later... same weird feeling. Finally, almost in tears I called one of my bridesmaids to see if she wouldn't mind helping me put on the dress and giving me her opinion. Of course, she said "Come over!" and helped me put it on. The minute I took a breath with the dress zipped all the way up, the top-most button went flying into the air like a bullet! Before you think that I bought a dress 2 sizes too small and then starved myself to try and get in, let me clarify a couple of things: 1. I am pretty thin. I eat extremely healthy and exercise 5-6 times per week. 2. I am Latin, so even if I gain weight, it goes to my thighs, not my chest. Actually, my waist and thighs had to be taken in and I still have room in there. 3. I have a very small chest. I cannot tell you the panic that sunk in when it is two weeks before I leave the country and the most important dress I will wear my entire life doesn't fit properly! I got an instant headache from my shoulders to the top of my head. I asked everyone at work if they could give me any recommendations on seamstresses that specialized on wedding dresses and when someone emailed me a link to someone else (with bad ratings) on Citysearch, I found Tatyana, with 100% 5 STAR ratings. I looked at other websites to see if her ratings were as good (Yelp, Google, Yahoo) and they ALL agree that she's the Goddess of Sewing. I called her on a Wednesday or Thursday and she was ready to see me on Friday. When I arrived she asked me to put on the dress and immediately after she saw me wearing it she pointed out at my waist and saw the lumps. She started looking at every part of me and the dress, she measured me and showed me that the bust had to be taken out by 4cm so I could breathe and 2 more cm in the waist (after fixing the ridiculous lumps). She told me that the length I had was still too long, even though I'm wearing flat ballet shoes. She showed me how she'd take the bustle (because even with the bustle, my train still dragged about 3 feet behind me) so that the entire skirt would come out and I would be able to dance. She told me she'd consider my dress high priority since she knew I'd be traveling very shortly and I left feeling a bit reassured. I went home and Sunday night, I get a voice mail from Tatyana telling me that the dress is ready! Can you believe that? TWO DAYS!! She fixed hem, bust, waist, crazy kangaroo pouch and the train/bustle in TWO DAYS! I went there today and picked it up. I couldn't believe it when I was able to zip it all the way up without any help - and I didn't have to stop breathing either! I have no idea how she did it but she took out 4cms in the top and took the waist in. There are no crazy lumps around my waist and hips and the length is absolutely perfect. The bustle is great too! I will be able to dance the night away after we pick up that train. OH! And I am no longer a mama kangaroo! Tatyana told me how (negatively) surprised she'd been when she started working on my dress. She couldn't believe what the other seamstress had done - it was as if she'd sewn the dress drunk! I am so grateful to have found someone that knows her skill so well and is willing to help out someone in need. She was very understanding and pleasant to work with. I agree with all the other reviewers, that when you want something done right, you should definitely come to Tatyana. If you live in the west side (I live in Beaverton) it can be a drive, but it is 100% worth it. I am just very sorry that I found her in the end, after I'd already paid almost $300 in alterations to someone who doesn't know how to sew properly. Tatyana is the Goddess of Sewing. Wow! Tatyana is a miracle worker! The first time I went to Tatyana's was for my wedding dress alterations. I was short on time and needed a quick turn around. She bustled my dress and did an amazing job. She was fair priced and super high quality. A few years later I went back there for her to alter a bridesmaid dress for me. The dress wouldn't zip in the bust, not even close. Somehow she performed a miracle and got that dress to fit me. I am still unsure how she did that, but again, she was a miracle worker. A few days ago (2 years later), I went back for a simple dress alteration and another miracle request. She had me try on my dress and right then and there, let the bust out and it didn't require further altering. I was simply amazed! Not only that, she did it for free. She said that she didn't do anything....Well, she did and my dress will fit for my upcoming vacation. Tatyana is cheaper than most alteration places, not dirt cheap, but definitely fair. The turn around is amazingly fast. When you pull up, it's find of strange. She does these alterations out of her house, and her house is on a flag lot. Her English is a little broken, yet she always seems to get it right. I know that she does a lot of contract work for Nordstroms as well. It will definitely seem odd upon your arrival, but when you pick up your clothing, you will be pleased. It's a cash only deal.....but she will tell you how much to bring back with you.
