Over the years, Thu has helped me out on numerous occasions, many times under tight deadlines. Often I need to alter my clothes because my shirt is way smaller than my pant size. So when I buy dresses or jumpsuits, I need them taken in at the waist and sometimes the sides. That's when Thu comes to the rescue! She knows exactly where to nip and tuck to stay true to the structure of the outfit while tayloring it to my shape. She has done alterations for me on formal dresses, business clothes, casual tops, slacks and maxi dresses. Everything looks amazing because she is a perfectionist. Look at how she dresses everyday to come to her shop and sew, and you will see that Thu knows how clothes should fit and be presented. Thu has a vibrant personality so if no one else is in the shop while you are there, be prepared for lots of conversation and laughs! I would stop by in off-hours during the week to avoid waiting as others tried on clothes and got fitted. So if you don't want to wait, avoid lunch hours, after work and Saturday's. Could not recommend Thu enough. I had a couple shirts i needed the sleeves shortened and some pants I needed to hem. They came out beautifully and in the time she estimated. The biggest challenge was the vinyl pants I wanted tapered, they were slippery and I was unsure if they would work out. They came out perfect! She knows what she is doing and as a very short person, it's exciting to realize I have someone I like, know and trust who can make stuff fit. One mild observation is that because she is so awesome, she is busy. I've been in twice so far and both times have experienced a wait, from 10-35 minutes, as she is helping other customers. So my personal note to self is to build in time to stop by (and to avoid her afternoon lunch hour, during which time the shop is closed). I was disappointed when one yelper was upset that her dog wasn't allowed in the store. What's the big deal? Sure, bring your dog into a small room full of other people's clothes- 'Merica! I'm sure you were also upset when your fur-shedding, mouth-breathing, non-diapered-hineyed pet was turned away from E.T.'s covered house, a stranger's open-heart surgery, and the children's hospital ward for the dog-allergic. (And to address the obvious, I am in the dash-using mood). I learned, on my first visit, that my jacket hems were off, as one arm is longer than the other. I have been using tailors ever since my first pair of Huggies was not fully complimentary of my then-small and hairless body. No amount of medical training, combined with binge-watching of "Quincy" (all years but 1980--what a stinker!) could have shown me my deformity. Plus, when friends ask me to help them move, I pat my right arm, bow and shake my head, and say "sorry, arm's too short." What a gift! read more

I have had the pleasure of going to Tru on multi occasions over the last few years. Put very simply, SHE IS THE BEST I am not a small person, nor am I a large person. I like clothes that has a loose fit and feel. Tru is extremely helpful in sizing clothes just to my frame and then I feel and look fantastic. Her knowledge of fashion is very apparent and her love of fashion shows clearly. I have been her shop as she has helped bridesmaids are getting fittings and she is working with beautiful fabrics. Then is very happy to help me with sweatshirt fabrics. I completely trust her suggestions on how something should be modified. When I come back to retrieve my items the changes she had made always look professional and if I did not know that I had requested changes I would think that was the way I had purchased the item originally. But in truth I know she had changed it to my request. If you have any tailoring, mending, or changes you need made to any clothes you own. THU PROVIDED THE WORST AND MOST INSULTING CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!! I was looking for a local tailor shop to resew my buttons on a jacket. Thu Fashion came highly recommended on Yelp and stated very reasonable priced. Wow, it was the total opposite! I tried on the jacket that was a little snug. Thu replied, "You need to lose weight and start walking." Last time I checked Thu is not my doctor, she is a tailor. She proceeded to go on about how she doesn't make money at her shop and she needed to shorten her hours in order to keep up with the demands of the work. She also looked in the mirror and stated how good she looked from all her walking early in the morning. I should have walked out at that point but I was too shocked and dumfounded at what I was hearing. I called Thu went I got home and told her my feelings were hurt and what she said was mean. Her reply was, "I didn't realize you were so sensitive and I am a very honest person". I appreciate honesty but what she said was an insult coming from a person I just met and asking services from. She kept going on about how honest she was to her customers and how long she has been in business. Her apology in the end came down to my personality not that she insulted me. I did go back after the phone call to pick up my jacket and receive my refund. By the way, Thu charged me $10 per button to resew on my jacket. I went down the street to another tailor who did not insult me and charged only $3 per button. SO, IF YOU NEED TO BE INSULTED AND CHARGED EXORBITANT PRICES PLEASE GO TO THU FASHION. Portland is very fortunate to have Thu. Every time I talk to her, fear stikes that she might one day leave us to be a fabulous fashion designer in Italy - because she is so much more than a talented tailor. She has amazing style and a creative mind that doesn't stop flowing. My story about her services starts in Eugene, goes to Philly and then ends happily in Portland (like most stories, am I right?). I bought an amazing navy blue and gold blazer at an Estate sale in Eugene. I hold on to it for a few months as I move to Philly. I find a (Greek!) tailor. Alas, he is my father's age and gets too conservative about actually tailoring something to be flattering on a woman's body. My side comment here is that I was made with monkey sperm: I am 6 feet tall with very broad shoulders and long arms. So I constantly struggle finding jackets to be form fitting as they usually just become a boxy mess on me. I take my jacket my from this Greek man and have held off, until Thu. I found her amazing reviews on yelp and her sweet location in the Hollywood near my workplace. It was easy to schedule an appointment with her - I popped in after work and she spent a lot of time to make sure the jacket was pinned up just so, providing her stylish wisdom about how it would best look on my frame. I also brought in a $4 vintage dress found in a Philly Goodwill just for fun. I trusted her tailoring advice and when I came back to pick them up - trying them on for her, to make sure everything was perfect, I seriously couldn't stop my vanity. Thu just killed it with the tailoring, making these shapeless clothes look amazing on six feet of space. Not only is Thu talented, but she is such a profoundly interesting person. She was formally trained in Italy, from Vietnam but also very Portland. She's quirky, classy, honest, hard working, and extremely posh. This is my wife's go-to tailor to get things altered. The owner does an amazing job. Her prices are commensurate with the quality of the work she does. You may find a place a few bucks cheaper, but I doubt they will have done as good of a job. She also will be honest with you and tell you if she thinks the item is worth altering, if its not a special piece. Its always nice to have a person who's trying to make money tell you its not worth giving them money. Immediately shows they are an honest businesswoman. read more

Thu was very confident in her work, and brushed off our request to try on the jeans before leaving her shop. When she hemmed the pants, she asked my guy to take off his shoes while hemming his jeans, which from all the forums I've been reading is bad practice. Thu is an AMAZING tailor. She has altered about 75% of my wardrobe and has done a stellar job on every piece including some very complicated projects. I would trust no one else with my clothes. Her style is so professional that you would never know that an item had been altered. She is also very good at making alteration suggestions that you have not considered, but in the end make your clothes look so much better than you ever imagined. The only reason that she does not get five stars is because due to her talent she is so busy that oftentimes things are not ready on time, but the end result is always worth the wait. read more

She was really great and put me and my partner at ease. She did a great job with our clothes and was absolutely hilarious. I found this place on a citysearch review and was trying to see if I could get someone to alter my clothes after dropping some serious LBs. A great lady that is really funny works and owns the place. She can pretty much do anything you want from redesigning your clothes to just altering everything from tapering, hems, shoulders, etc. She pretty much took all of my favorite clothes apart and put them back together. Highly recommended for some serious tailoring. Not my first choice for just any easy hem and a little more spendy than other places but if you need some quality work done and it might not be simple, this is the place. I went with the recommendations I found here on Yelp, and went to Thu with a challenging project. A friend had given me a priceless antique black silk velvet evening coat. The lining was litterally in tatters. It was unwearable. Thu painstakingly took out the old lining and put in a new one. It's like a new coat. Stunningly beautiful with its new dark red satin lining, which Thu did a superb job with. A very professional piece of work. I can wear the coat now! It wasn't an inexpensive endeavor, but it was worth it. I now have a one-of-a-kind drop-dead-gorgeous coat that I am very proud to wear. I will definitely bring any other tailoring or alteration projects to Thu. read more

I'm only giving Thu three stars because while she IS a very talented seamstress and designer, she's lousy at getting things turned around in a timely manner. I brought trousers in for alterations on 23 of August. I was given a pickup date of September 9. I didn't go back in until 9/19 and was told that the clothes still weren't ready! That she had been so busy! I'm glad that a business woman is so successful but perhaps when you're that busy, you need to hire some help, don't promise pick up dates 2 weeks out, or just call your clients when the product is ready. Solid workmanship for sure, just don't be in any kind of hurry to get your things back. Allow at least a month. read more

I had some suits tailor made in Hong Kong for a slightly smaller version of myself. (That's being honest) I also had a suit that was tailor made in the 1950s for a much larger family member. The Hong Kong suits had to be let out slightly. It feels like Thu had it measured down to the millimeter, as they fit like the proverbial glove. The large suit jacket needed to be completely overhauled. (The pants couldn't be done and Thu explained clearly why. -- There's a Curb Your Enthusiasm scene about that if you're wondering.) Thu is amazing, especially on the 1950s jacket. The only way you would know the jacket wasn't tailor made for me, is the location of the pockets is a bit lower on me. And the only way you would know that is if you really were looking for that kind of detail which Thu also clearly explained to me. I've taken other things to her as well, both small and large jobs. She is also very friendly, and loves to talk about fashion, and she's even open on Saturday. Five star all around. read more

I needed some jackets tailored and tried Thu based upon the other reviews I saw here. She does quality work, I am so happy with what she did for me that I am already checking my closet for more clothes that she can work on for me! If you need a pair of pants hemmed, she is probably not the one for you because 1) she charges more than you are probably wanting to pay, and 2) anyone can hem a pair of pants, but few can take in a jacket so that it looks like it was sewn just for you. Save her time for the real projects. On the down side (which isn't much of one!) Thu is so fabulous that she is always working. That means that you should either plan for the work to take longer than she thought, or let her know that you have a firm deadline by which you need the work before you drop it off. Also call her before picking it up, and if she tells you that she needs more time and you really need it by a date, tell her! She will get the work done quickly if she knows you need it. She was well worth the wait and I am very glad that I found the only tailor I will ever need. read more

When I'm in town from NY I bring everything that needs altered to Thu and pick them up then next time I'm here (often dropping off more) even if it means a month or more later. (She's worth the wait) I started coming here years ago when my (very picky) ex boyfriend wanted a VERY specific look. He couldn't find the right coat for the right price anywhere. So I found one that was close and a really good price, told him to spend the money he was saving on getting it altered. He was hesitant at first but after picking it up from Thu, he felt like the entire thing had been custom made just for him. I believe he brought her three more pieces that week. Living in NY I have, unfortunately, been to other tailors since Thu, and I regret it every time. I'm not saying you cant find a good alterations specialist in NY, just not in my budget. So that's how I judge Thu's prices... She's exactly on point with an average NYC tailor, with the quality of the best. The last thing I brought in was my (wretched) work uniform. If anyone could make this thing look good, it was Thu. So she pinned and pinned and adjusted and pinned.... Then she stood back with a look on her face I've never seen before, I asked "what?" She mentioned its just too bad the neckline isn't a little bit lower..... "Go ahead" I said. She dropped the neckline less than an inch (my company would FREAK if they found out) and you can't really tell. But people tell me all he time how lucky I am to have that dress actually look good on me, it always looks so matronly on people. I just thank them and keep Thu as my little secret. I went to Thu after reading the other positive reviews for her business on Yelp. I recently lost a bit of weight - a great thing for me, not so great for the dresses in my closet that didn't shrink along with me! Some of them I was ready to part with, the others I couldn't bear the idea of no longer being able to wear! Thus I found myself at Thu's... I brought in two dresses to be taken in. She told me to call in two weeks to check on them. I admit I accidentally waited three weeks to call, but no matter - she said they were ready and I could come get them the next day. When I went in and tried on the finished products, I couldn't have been happier! By "a bit of weight," what I really meant was more like "kind of a lot of weight," and my newly tailored dresses fit like a glove. I mean they were PERFECTLY tailored. Thu is truly gifted in her craft! I can't say much when it comes to pricing, as I haven't altered any other clothes before (other than the occasional hem job), but I was happy to pay what I ended up paying for the quality of service I received, especially since it cost less than replenishing my wardrobe. I also feel the need to add that it's almost impossible not to like Thu instantly! She has a warm and magnetic personality and seems to really love what she does.
