I went here the night of one of the summer concerts in the park and it was really nice. My waitress was really on top of it with not only me but her other bigger tables as well. She was really sweet and helpful. She even offered up different breads. I can put my sandwich on since I'm not a big fan of Rye. My sandwich though was delicious. Bay city resident, this was third visit to 101. Wasn't happy with food first two times, this time was no exception. First of all, over priced. Hamburger, oh excuse me, smash burger and fries 17 dollars. Smash burger, just a rubbery hamburger, Luke warm, with basically cold fries. Won't be back, three strikes your out. I went out for dinner with my sister, who is a senior like me, and our mom, who is 86 years old, for Mother's Day, followed by a show afterward. We gave ourselves about an hour or more for dinner at Tavern 101 before the show. We sat down, ordered our drinks, and then our food afterward. I got a hot dog, and my mom and sister shared a hamburger. The place was not busy yet and still had a lot of open seats. After some time, we asked about our meals because it was taking a really long time. The waiter said he would check on it. After some more time, we still did not have our food. I asked the waiter to cancel my hot dog because I knew I would not be able to eat it there or take it with me. We went out for dinner to eat out, not to take it home if we could with us. I cannot eat that fast; it takes me some time to eat because of a medical condition. By this time, it had been about 45 minutes. After a short time, my hot dog came out in a to-go container and was plopped down in front of me, according to my mom. I refused it because I had canceled it. I would have to leave it there and not take it with me because of what was planned. Shortly after, my sister's and mom's hamburger also came out in a to-go box that they did not ask for in a box. We requested my hotdog be taken off the bill and for our bill and asked to see a manager. Brandon M. came out wearing an apron and gloves and seemed upset and stressed. He was not personable; he just talked about wait times and did not ask about our side of the story. He did not ask us any questions, we were just talked to, If anything, he escalated the situation. Afterward, he came back out with the hot dog, and I refused it again. He said to me, "You are refusing it again for a second time," and I replied, "Yes." He then said I was banned from all Downtown Restaurant Investments places (Tavern 101, Old City Hall, Drift, Molasses Smoke House & Bar and Lucky Bunny). I told him we would see, because I could not believe I would be banned from places for refusing a hot dog. I asked him why, and he said it was because I refused the hot dog. I tried to explain calmly what happened, but he did not want to hear anything. He said, "What do you expect? Your food to come out in one minute?" I said no, but 15 to 20 minutes, about industry standard, would be reasonable. I told him that other tables received their food before we did, even though they were seated after us. He didn't care about anything that was said; he was just being arrogant. We paid the bill, and I tipped the waiter in cash, saying he did a good job. I spoke to Brandon again for a quick second on the way out about what happened. All seemed fine to me then. A couple of days later, I reached out to Christy (Area Supervisor) and told her what happened. She was very professional, understood the situation and has a good heart and soul. She said not to worry about it and that she would check into it. She called me back, seeming very sad, to tell me that I was indeed banned from all Downtown Restaurant Investments because Brandon claimed I was rude to the staff, and he is the owner and Vice President of Downtown Restaurant Investments. I said, "Okay, thank you." And if you can have Brandon call me so we can talk about this more. He never called. We only talked to three staff members there. The waiter, Brandon and a girl waitress. The waiter and waitress was all nice. Since then, this incident has been causing me emotional stress and losing sleep over the fact that his accusations are not warranted. I do not know what happened behind the scenes in the kitchen or what was said. But if you talk to me, my sister, and definitely my 86-year-old mom, I was not rude. I believe this is something that Brandon came up with to put a bad stereotype, discredit me and diminish my character to help justify his poor management actions towards me. Me being rude never came up at dinner. I do not know why he is making up false stories of what happened. All we wanted was a nice Mother's Day dinner at/in the restaurant that day. I think when Brandon said I was banned from all Downtown Restaurant Investments, he expected a bigger reaction from me. But it did not bother me at all, and it still doesn't to this day. Bay City has so many great places to eat with better management and customer service that truly care for their customers, not just say it. read more

Late lunch sat at the bar. Bar tender was managing entire restaurant and was on point! Amazingly happy and friendly. Gave great honest food recs. Had the Nashville chicken sandwich w the green bean fries and an order of onion rings. Food was fresh and delicious. Great music playing to balance out the vibe! We stopped in bay city on our way back from up north. Ordered the Mediterranean Bowl and two cocktails. The bowl was very good and the Paloma drink was top notch. The atmosphere and the decor of this place is super. Service was spot on and the vibe was excellent. Highly recommended!!! read more

Food was good...most of it anyway. We ordered the garlic cheese curds to start and these were good. Then we ordered the 50/50 burger - delicious, spinach and mushroom flatbread - delicious, and the chicken nachos - not good (in my opinion). Mimosa flight was delicious. Sorry no pictures, we were at lunch with my sister and she took all the pictures Prices are average, parking is street and may get busy during the summer time. Atmosphere is comfortable. Decent salad but greens were a bit bitter for Romain Service was very slow even though it didn't seem terribly busy. I was by myself and sat at the bar. Some huge wins and some medium misses for us here. To start off with the good- beer list MASSIVE! I'm obsessed and want to come back every day just for the smoothie Seltzer (that I noticed everyone else had too!) I went on Tuesday and flights are HALF OFF with food purchase! Amazing! In a place like this, a flight is necessary so you can try them all. I'm also drooooling for their FRIES! ugh so crispy and flavorful. Will not be swapping my fries out for kale salad anymore. I need all the fries I can get! Also their starter popcorn is so addicting! Never been a big popcorn person but I could eat this by the handful. As for the less good: our medium rare burgers came out VERY well done and dry. We may be turned off from burgers here from now on if that's "medium rare"... But the other food looks pretty good. I was also unimpressed with timing of service. The server and bartender were both super nice! I was just a little surprised how long things took for how busy things looked- especially at the bar. Maybe it was a fluke though, or covid affecting the whole industry? Will definitely be making my way back here for the smoothie Seltzer beer and fries!!!! There isn't much positive to share about our dining experience at Tavern 101. The view from the large windows watching the sunset was great. Our server was very friendly. That is where the positivity ends. Atmosphere not so great. There was no one busing tables and there were napkins and other paper trash on the floor. We had trouble with the menu. Tried to order fettuccini, which on the menu there was a choice of steak or chicken. Ordered steak. Server came back and told us there was a $13.00 upcharge for steak on an entree that was already $18.50! Tried to order the Phillie steak...out of stock. We ordered burgers instead. Mine medium, my partner mid rare. They both came back nearly raw. Sent mine back for a recook. Tossed salad actually had warm lettuce. Can't even figure out how that happens. To be clear, if I were reviewing Tavern 101 strictly on their beer, they would get full marks. An excellent selection of draft brews, with many coming from Michigan. So, if you are looking to just grab a couple drinks, absolutely come here! However, in terms of food, I was unimpressed and am confused why they consider themselves Italian - maybe because the selection of flatbread pizzas? Anyway, some menu items seem unique and are possibly tasty, but I don't think the price and the quality match up. I paid $14 for a small piece of salmon that was overcooked (and had way too many bones!!) on top a bed of rice that also overcooked. The curry sauce was good, but not worth $14. My server also never brought or offered me popcorn, though I saw it on every other table. That all being said, this place was bumping on a Friday night with a wide array of customers, so it's clearly popular. I will give it another chance next time I'm at the planetarium - it is right next door with is great for this cold weather - and will report back. read more

Definitely would do 0 stars if I could. I am from around this area originally and have never actually eaten at the Tavern but got asked to on a visit home. Friends of mine ordered burgers. Both buns had huge sections of MOLD on them. One friend didn't notice until after she already ate some. One hopes she didn't consume any. It was painfully obvious and concerning why the kitchen staff didn't catch it. They didn't have to pay for their meals, but the rest of us who totally lost our appetites and didn't finish our meals did have to pay. I am surprised they didn't offer some sort of discount or something for all of us sitting there awe struck. My partner and I got pasta there (the rigatoni and alfredo). This restaurant is absolutely a hidden Michigan gem, located in downtown Bay City it is close to the river with beautiful outdoor seating. The cocktails and food are absolutely worth a five star rating while being extremely affordable. I will absolutely be coming back on my way through Bay City!! read more
