We were at Rutgers for my grandson's soccer game. We decided to head to Tavern on George for dinner. It was a Saturday night so New Brunswick was hopping. I don't remember if we made reservations or were just lucky in our timing but we were seated immediately. We were a party of six. It was pretty crowded but service was friendly and excellent. The menu has a full offering of pub food. The food is excellent. Everything was prepared to order. Theres a full bar with a varied choice of brews. Do yourself a favor and visit Tavern on George. You won't regret it. Reservations are usually a good idea especially when the State Theatre is in season.

We stopped in during Rutgers Family weekend & sat outside because it was gorgeous out. Sat at a picnic bench with umbrella but they had regular tables/chairs as well. They were pretty busy but we were served fairly quickly - drinks, nachos, sliders, fries, and cheesesteak egg-rolls. All was good - no issues!

I stopped by for lunch before a show at the State Theater and it was great! We enjoyed the crab cake and burger with their variety of beers on tap. The fries were deliciously crispy and tender inside. The service was quick but the only thing I didn't like was that the place was quite dark inside. We had a reservation but it was pretty empty during lunch on a weekend. !

The food was good. Looks like an old tavern but is more like a sports bar with the half dozen tvs tuned to Rutgers football and basketball. Service was a little slow but I think there only one server who was very personable. Good was good, Not amazing but over all I would go again if I wanted a drink and to watch a game.

The pictures might look good but that's where it ends. The place was completely dead but we had really slow and kinda rude service??? As a cilantro hater, they put cilantro instead of parsley on my garlic Parmesan fries and French onion soup. The waitress told the cook and they're like we don't even have cilantro. You absolutely do because it's listed in your menu and don't gaslight me into thinking I don't know the difference. The onion rings are also fried in the same oil as the donuts. So donut flavored onion rings is not what you expect. I can't imagine what the donuts must taste like. The burnt ends taco had chewy flavorless bits instead of burnt ends of pork. The Nashville hot chicken slider had no hot sauce on it. It was fried chicken with pickles but nothing hot.

Really nice vibe inside with great service. The food was kind of just OK, but still good enough for me to want to come back. Their drink selection was more exciting to my boyfriend and I and we had a good time looking through their many options. Seems better for drinks with friends than a sit down dinner, in my opinion!

Donuts flight looked pretty with yummy sauces but donut itself over fried and crunchy

Nice tavern to go when you are attending show at the State theater . Smaller menu with burgers salads and sandwiches friendly staff in a clean tavern bathrooms could use an update in the basement area food is tavern food with healthy salad option if you don't want fries u had a caprese sandwich which always a small baguette with roasted peppers ( a bit over cooked) cheese, pesto and chicken good flavor with a side salad we tried the donut flight for dessert they were over fried almost crispy and tasted slightly plain with sauces poured over we liked the sauce more than the so it itself food is a nice presentation yet average taste

We went on a cold Sunday afternoon. Parking a slight challenge but we found a meter around the corner. We entered through an old unique wooden door and walked up a slope to the bar area. The place has high wooden ceilings and an area downstairs with another bar that opens during events and busier days. We sat at the main bar upstairs and ordered drinks. They have a dozen and a half beers on tap. We ordered loaded waffle fries which were topped with chicken, bbq sauce and scallions. They were good! After my beer I ordered a "gold fashioned" but I substituted bourbon instead of scotch. Service was friendly and efficient at the bar!

Great local bar to get good food and drinks post watching the Rutgers game or to go there to watch any game . Local sports bar with plenty of seats, tv screens and good food and drinks. The ambiance 5/5, service 5/5 quick service despite the crowds on a Rutgers home game Saturday and food 5/5. Lots of great shareable apps and the menu is extensive they offer a lil of everything for everyone.

Since I read such reviews about the place being in need of a good cleaning and other not so good things, I was actually pleasantly surprised when I found it not to be as skeevy as I'd expected. The bartender was nice looking, friendly, and made a great drink. Wonderful cosmo! The DJ was playing great music.. great old New Brunswick college town vibes with the pool table and Rutgers paraphernalia around. I wasn't too happy about the downstairs area where they put on the shows.. it seemed like an old church basement, just sorta bootleg. They said that they remodeled, so not certain how it was before. Staff were organized and friendly. I had my purse searched upon entry; all bags were looked at. My ticket was purchased through Vivid Seats, and apparently they didn't provide me a legit theater-issued QR so I had to visit the box office. They were friendly and promptly issued me printed tickets. Lobby was a con because it's just small and cramped. This old building probably didn't have to house as much food and merch purchasing back in its day but the multiple concession lines were blocking people from just getting to the theater and accessing their seats. They have tons of low quality junk food for sale. The huge group sitting next to us had chicken fingers, fries, a ketchup smell that wouldn't go away... it was honestly ridiculous the food they allow in people's laps just to turn profits. I was surprised these people were buying full huge meals (that had to cost $40+ each for junk) at 3:30pm to hold it in their laps for a 1.75h kids' show. Whatever. Point is, if you haven't eaten and want to pay $40 for crap that will linger in your body, you will not go hungry here. Clean bathrooms were the right size to allow a packed house to process themselves in the 20min intermission timeframe. This includes the ladies room, which always takes longer, and it was for a kids' show, which adds even more time. I recommend pairing your visit with the Rutgers Zimmerli Art Museum if you have time. They are open until 6pm most nights.

Perfect view of the stage, but I don't think it really matters much where you are seated due to the design of the auditorium. The opener was a rising singer/songwriter named Aniyyah, born and raised in New Jersey. Aniyyah's DJ had some technical issues loading her music at the start of her set, but wow, she has a voice on her. She, along with Raheem DeVaughn and Eric made for a fantastic show. They are all extremely talented vocalists, but Raheem DeVaughn without a doubt stole the show with his stage presence. Eric Benét however truly surprised me. His voice is absolutely incredible live. The State Theatre did a major renovation back in 2020 and the interior was previously renovated in 2004. It's as if we have a piece of Broadway right in the middle of New Brunswick, New Jersey. I felt like I stepped right into the 1920s with their vintage design and architecture. The acoustics inside the theatre are phenomenal. I'm not sure if it was my seating, but the sound was so crisp and well balanced. I can understand why any artist would choose this theatre as their preferred venue to perform in. One important note is their designated passageway to the closest parking deck which would otherwise be a long walk in the freezing cold. We were able to use the enclosed heated hallway as a shortcut which leads directly from the garage to the State Theatre located on Livingston Ave. We almost walked right past the entrance to the passageway, so I wanted to make sure I shared it with anyone who has read this far into my review : ) It's been many years since I've come to see a show here, and I had an enjoyable experience. I look forward to checking out any of their other events in the near future.

There were a lot of first timers that really had the crowd on their feet by the end of their set. I know the Stress Factory is known for their big names, but the New Talent Showcase is something special. It felt like a poetry slam night but for comedians. There was a sense of community, no heckling, all love. The service was great. We moved from one table to another on the opposite side of the stage, yet there was no hiccup in our service. Our server was super nice, and our appetizers hit the table pretty quickly. I ordered chicken quesadillas and a sampler that included mozzarella cheese, chicken fingers, and curly fries. Everything was good thankfully since I came straight from work and was starving. Lastly, I had a German draft beer to wash it all down. It was a good night!

A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

The staff is super friendly and know their way around the (very large) menu. Honestly, they have a hot dog or sausage combo for just about everyone. I let the bartender pick for me, and she nailed it. She chose an all-beef dog that was basically a Big Mac in hot dog form. I was skeptical at first, but wow this hit in all the right ways. Awesome presentation, even better flavor. I could've easily eaten three of these. I also tried the onion rings, the bartender warned me they were just "meh," and she wasn't wrong, lol. For round two, I went with an all-beef dog topped with pastrami this is basically a Reuben-style dog. Another win! Great flavor, great presentation. Overall, I'd totally recommend Destination Dogs if you're in the area. Just a heads up, if there's a game on, it gets loud. Like "can't-hear-your-friend-next-to-you" loud. But if that's your vibe, you'll love it.
