I truly appreciate coming here, the service is really great, the food always delicious, [[HIGHLIGHT]]feels comfortable and homey, and as my wife and I said, without pretense[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Burgers, salads, appetizers, perfectly prepared and always fresh. And our server, Gabriel is always the best, warm and inviting, and so attentive, makes all the difference. Tavern on George has become one of our go to spots near home.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We stopped in during Rutgers Family weekend & sat outside because it was gorgeous out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sat at a picnic bench with umbrella but they had regular tables/chairs as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They were pretty busy but we were served fairly quickly - drinks, nachos, sliders, fries, and cheesesteak egg-rolls. All was good - no issues!

We were at Rutgers for my grandson's soccer game. We decided to head to Tavern on George for dinner. It was a Saturday night so New Brunswick was hopping. I don't remember if we made reservations or were just lucky in our timing but we were seated immediately. We were a party of six. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty crowded but service was friendly and excellent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu has a full offering of pub food. The food is excellent. Everything was prepared to order. Theres a full bar with a varied choice of brews. Do yourself a favor and visit Tavern on George. You won't regret it. Reservations are usually a good idea especially when the State Theatre is in season.

I stopped by for lunch before a show at the State Theater and it was great! We enjoyed the crab cake and burger with their variety of beers on tap. The fries were deliciously crispy and tender inside. The service was quick but the only thing I didn't like was that the place was quite dark inside. We had a reservation but it was pretty empty during lunch on a weekend. !

The food was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looks like an old tavern but is more like a sports bar with the half dozen tvs tuned to Rutgers football and basketball.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was a little slow but I think there only one server who was very personable. Good was good, Not amazing but over all I would go again if I wanted a drink and to watch a game.

The pictures might look good but that's where it ends. The place was completely dead but we had really slow and kinda rude service??? As a cilantro hater, they put cilantro instead of parsley on my garlic Parmesan fries and French onion soup. The waitress told the cook and they're like we don't even have cilantro. You absolutely do because it's listed in your menu and don't gaslight me into thinking I don't know the difference. The onion rings are also fried in the same oil as the donuts. So donut flavored onion rings is not what you expect. I can't imagine what the donuts must taste like. The burnt ends taco had chewy flavorless bits instead of burnt ends of pork. The Nashville hot chicken slider had no hot sauce on it. It was fried chicken with pickles but nothing hot.

Donuts flight looked pretty with yummy sauces but donut itself over fried and crunchy

Nice tavern to go when you are attending show at the State theater . Smaller menu with burgers salads and sandwiches friendly staff in a clean tavern bathrooms could use an update in the basement area food is tavern food with healthy salad option if you don't want fries u had a caprese sandwich which always a small baguette with roasted peppers ( a bit over cooked) cheese, pesto and chicken good flavor with a side salad we tried the donut flight for dessert they were over fried almost crispy and tasted slightly plain with sauces poured over we liked the sauce more than the so it itself food is a nice presentation yet average taste

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Really nice vibe inside with great service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was kind of just OK, but still good enough for me to want to come back. Their drink selection was more exciting to my boyfriend and I and we had a good time looking through their many options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seems better for drinks with friends than a sit down dinner, in my opinion![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We went on a cold Sunday afternoon. Parking a slight challenge but we found a meter around the corner. We entered through an old unique wooden door and walked up a slope to the bar area. The place has high wooden ceilings and an area downstairs with another bar that opens during events and busier days. We sat at the main bar upstairs and ordered drinks. They have a dozen and a half beers on tap. We ordered loaded waffle fries which were topped with chicken, bbq sauce and scallions. They were good! After my beer I ordered a "gold fashioned" but I substituted bourbon instead of scotch. Service was friendly and efficient at the bar!

Great local bar to get good food and drinks post watching the Rutgers game or to go there to watch any game . Local sports bar with plenty of seats, tv screens and good food and drinks. The ambiance 5/5, service 5/5 quick service despite the crowds on a Rutgers home game Saturday and food 5/5. Lots of great shareable apps and the menu is extensive they offer a lil of everything for everyone.

Even with a dozen people on Saturday night, we managed to get seated. With the wide variety of menu choices, everyone was able to get exactly what they wanted. One very interesting dish I hadn't thought of was the chicken pot pie, which sounds very pedestrian, but wait until you see it. Amazing. I ordered the Ahi Tuna salad and it tasted every bit as good as it's picture-perfect looks. Superb service, plus literally everything that came to the table looked like a magazine picture. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Over time, I've noticed a clear decline in quality at the New Brunswick location. In contrast, the Hillsborough location has remained relatively consistent, which makes the difference even more noticeable. To be fair, I'm willing to give a pass on the slower service during this visit since we were seated outside and it seemed like they may not have been fully staffed for that area. That said, the bigger issue was the food. We ordered ravioli and chicken parm with pasta. The ravioli sauce was extremely watery, to the point where it resembled soup rather than a proper sauce. The chicken parm was overcooked, as was the pasta. It's disappointing to say, but based on this experience and the overall downward trend, I don't see myself returning to this location anytime soon.

A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

Dinner was also very good. Just about everyone ordered something different, and we left pretty happy. The only issue was the music. I don't know if this is the case for the entire restaurant, but the downstairs had bouncy ukulele covers for the entirety of our time there. It was also a bit too loud. I felt like I had to get up to hear someone sitting a few people away from me, or speak too loud to for shared space because there's a bouncy ukulele covers of Without You by The Kid LAROI. (No, that's not an embellishment. That actually played.) All in all, we had a great time, great food, in a beautiful space. Natalie was a very attentive service. But please, maybe some different music?
