We had our dogs with us, so we needed a restaurant that had outdoor seating. The outside tables had umbrellas and seating was comfortable. The menu is extensive. I noticed AFTER we ordered that there was a cocktail special that night. Our waitress never mentioned any specials, so I tried to flag her down after I had already ordered a different one not on the list. I mentioned to the hostess what I needed, and I hung out waiting for our waitress at the front. After waiting at least 15 min for her to show up from the back, I was able to ask her to change my drink order. The food here is FABULOUS. We got the housemade Irish soda bread and it was amazing. Hubby got the shepherd's pie and it was delicious. I got the lamb chops over asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was FANTASTIC ! I don't know if our waitress was new or what, but our meals were delivered without silverware. We waited several minutes, then finally flagged down another waitress so that we could eat ! If it wasn't for the poor service, this place could easily be 5 stars due to the fabulous food. Thankfully we got out of there before the live music started, loud music is not our vibe. At the very end of the meal, somehow my original drink order made an appearance (that's what I was afraid of, that she didn't cancel the order). The folks at the table next to us ordered the exact same cocktail, so when the bar tried to give it to us, the waitress told them to give it to the table next to us instead. Geez, we were already paying for our meal at the time. Lol The manager did come out and the end of the meal to ask how things were. I did mention I thought our waitress might be new. Stopped by for a drink and overall it was just okay. Nothing really stood out and they didn't even have music playing, so it was pretty quiet. The bar itself had people but further inside was empty. The bar is fully stocked and has a variety of liquor, so you won't have trouble finding something you like. However, my margarita was blah. One side (tucked away from the main street) had a chill, cozy vibe with a fantastic acoustic guitarist playing everything from the Rolling Stones and David Bowie to Radiohead. L The other side, with the main entrance, was much livelier - louder, and definitely attracting a rowdier (and drunker) crowd. It was fun to have the option between mellow and high-energy depending on your mood. I tried a Bees Knees, which was crazy strong and felt unbalanced. My espresso martini was the opposite - weak and a letdown. My friend's chili mule was also on the weaker side, and the black currant ginger ale cocktail tasted more like juice than a cocktail. Drinks were not the highlight. That said, I ordered the Irish spring rolls and they were awesome - crispy, flavorful and came with a spicy dipping sauce. Perfect vibe and a perfect pour! It doesn't get much better than this- great, lively energy (they had live music when I went on a Saturday) and the food is delicious. Our waiter was incredible and so accommodating to any dietary restrictions. Prices were reasonable, specifically the deal to get a $2 side salad or soup to any main. I was able to get a bowl of potato leek soup and a side salad, making my food total under $12! We also split the "bubbles and squeak" appetizer, just with bacon on the side. Would highly recommend! But we didn't find anything else that met our fancy, so we decided to give Hailey's a shot. So glad we didn't find anything!!! I've been here a few times and really enjoy the live music! It can be a little loud sometimes, but it's ok! I chose the corned beef and cabbage- the portion is generous. I ate half of it for dinner and took the other half to go. I don't know much about corned beef and cabbage, but from what I'm told, having it sliced in this way is not a typical preparation. I've been to Hailey's a few times with my family and it did not disappoint. I went on a Friday so they had a live band playing. The band was really good. At first, we were sitting in the back area but asked to move to the main area. The waiters were very accommodating and found another table for us to sit at. Our waiter for the night, was very attentive and checked on us multiple times. It's definitely a great place to meet up with friends, grab a bite to eat and some drinks. Got here around 9:30pm on a Wednesday night, loud live Irish music playing. The hostess immediately sat us. We figured the kitchen was still open bc she didn't say anything. Our waiter asked for our drinks which took a long time to come out. I had to remind him about my wine. We ordered calamari and it came out fairly quickly. Was decent. He then took our full dinner order casually. He came back to tell us the kitchen is closed which came to us as shock and was super disappointing as we were very hungry. They never mentioned to us when the kitchen closes. He offered half off the calamari but then came back and said the manager said the calamari and wine are free. I went to the bathroom and they cleaned the table before I got back and took the food & wine anyway. *sigh* We just got a weird vibe and were concerned why no one gave the heads up the kitchen was closing. Had no idea that the burg of Metuchen even existed, but WOW am I glad I went exploring! A *real* Irish pub with the fare to boot! A place where the Guinness pours are allowed the time to get it JUST right... Snugly wedged into old storefronts along Metuchen's main thoroughfare and just steps from the NJ transit station serving the town, Hailey's has been serving up pub goodness since 2009. I figured a local craft beer must be the order of the day, so a solid Cape May Brewing wheat ale satisfied my malt/hop palate. The menu is strong with the Irish force, with cabbage dishes, Irish stew, and fish & chips building out a star-studded lineup. But this kid saw the shepherd's pie on the menu and I just had to have that. A baked dish of lamb and vegetables under a thick layer of mashed taters, shepherd's pie is one of my childhood faves. Seriously, I dug into this delight and was instantly transported back to my 8-year-old self, dreaming of a cold fall day and my mother creating the most comforting of dinners (she even brushed the taters with a layer of egg wash for that special crunch). It was simply PHENOMENAL and just what I needed. (OK, so it is served at about 300°, but be patient, it's worth it) Hailey's boasts Irish fare and they absolutely deliver! I love this bar. It is smoke-free and family-friendly, and it's only a short walk away from the Metuchen train station. They have a very good corned beef sandwich and a wonderful staff lineup. Just a few drawbacks, though. The restrooms are very run down. They should be using automatic toilets and hand dryers, and there's no TouchTunes jukebox either. Real bummer. read more

A bit loud so my guests and I had to talk very loud to hear each other but nonetheless it add to the overall ambiance. Customer service is excellent. Our server was awesome. I made a visit here sometime in mid-2021 so the pandemic was in it's early stages in feeling comfortable and opening up. So not sure if much has changed since then. I went on a weekday evening and during this time, they only offering they had were indoor seating which was very much preferred for me so it worked out great. The ambiance is very relaxed and friendly with live music which I very much enjoyed. I will point out though that the music was a little too loud so made it a little challenging to carry out my conversations. But again, live music performance was great. The food is as expected, nothing super spectacular and meets within expectations. Wings didn't have a lot of meat, not very juicy but very crunchy. But the mozzarella had a solid instagram worthy cheese pull! read more

Great food, I've heard the beer is good too, and conveniently located right next to the Metuchen Train station. I met a few friends at Hailey's last Friday night and we had a good time. It got a little crowded by the bar but in our booth we were not bothered by other patrons. The service was friendly and quick, despite it being busy. The food was great. I opted for Buffalo Chicken Pasta because it's one of the flavors most people in my family don't like but I love, so I don't have anything "buffalo" very often. It was really good, but I will say you have to be committed to buffalo wing sauce flavor to enjoy it. As a teen i used to make "hot sauce butter noodles" so it was right up my alley! They made the dish more "adult" and sophisticated by adding in Gouda cheese, which gave it a great Smokey flavor that I really enjoyed. My other friends ordered Fish and Chips and loved their meals. They said the coating on the fish was perfect and texture perfectly flakey. The portion was huge. Everyone really enjoyed their meal and despite it being a busy night near the bar, we were comfortable and able to carry on conversation at a normal level. 5/5 read more

The last time I went to this place with my husband (BC, "before COVID"), I sat at the bay for at least 15 minutes before leaving because no one acknowledged me.
