We had a wonderful meal here with great service. The restaurant has a wonderful open air location. We started our meal with the avocado fries. They were creamy and perfectly battered with a garlic sauce to dip. I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi and my wife the seafood risotto. My fish was delicious along with puréed cauliflower. My wife loved her risotto with shrimp, calamari, and clams. Our waiter Pablo was friendly and provided great service. A great dining experience.

Excellent food, ambiance and service. Entire seating and bar area on raised covered patio/deck. Had a wonderful mojito from the bar and delicious pasta and seafood risotto.

Would like to write my best review for this place. Had two meals here while staying near Akumal - both were simply fabulous. Everything on the menu could be served in a good Italian restaurant the world over; with a slightly 'Spanish' touch - (although admittedly that might just be the atmosphere...). Focaccia is unique, hope you like it, I did. Bruschetta was great (do get the fresh park on top), and the avocado fries are really interesting. (If you are a avocado fan they are a must try .). After appy's - try the ravioli, chicken parm, lasagna or gnocchi. All amazing. They also have some very great signature cocktails, quite unique a few of them. Spicy mezcal? A truly interesting mix. Restaurant itself is 'upscale casual', meaning most folks have just come off the beach after a hot day, quick change into something comfortable and take the short walk over from their condos. Staff is casual as well, but everyone was great at their jobs, particularly the chefs, to say the least. Best part - the vibes. A great Spotify playlist provided the perfect atmosphere for a really great way to end a relaxing day. Super Chill.

5 stars all the way for this place!!! The minute we walked in we knew we had made a great choice. The wood fire grill just smells amazing and you know your food is going to have good flavor. We ordered the focaccia bread which was more like a cheese pizza - we were picturing square thick style but it was still really tasty with rosemary and garlic. We also ordered the fried avocado as a starter which is good but nothing to go out of your way for. Two of us split the seafood platter - if you enjoy fish, this is the way to go. Everything was made in the wood fire and had great flavor. Lobster, calamari, grilled whole fish (snapper). We got the lobster ravioli which was stuffed full of meat and worth it for that alone. We were expecting a creamy sauce but it was more of a vegetable sauce which was just as flavorful. We also got the pizza with prosciutto, arugula, and cheese on it. I've been to Italy multiple times and his pizza brought me right back. YUM! They also had balsamic and a sweeter chili olive oil for me to drizzle on. Everything about this wood fire pizza was delicious. Back to the drinks - some of the best margaritas we have had on our visit to akumal. The hibiscus mezcal margarita is one I recommend. The service is second to none, they are all happy and will take you to see their proud grill they use. We were served complimentary limoncello after our meal which is so Italian it made us love it even more. Don't pass this place up when in akumal!

My family went to Akumal for a one week vacation along with our friends. There were 9 of us total and we ate at Taverna twice for dinner in that one week period because our experience and our food was outstanding. We had fried avocados, truffle fries and bruschetta for appetizers. We ordered the daily specials, lobster tails, pizzas, pastas, chicken Parmesan, delicious cocktails as well as crème brûlée and chocolate lava cake. Everything was delicious and for both our visits our server was outstanding. This restaurant is not only tasty but the atmosphere is a lot of fun as well. I highly recommend trying Taverna at least once during your visit to Akumal.

We had the most wonderful and fantastic dinner last night at Traverna. We sat at the bar and Pauline took excellent care of us! We will for sure be back!

Good and sufficient. Nothing special beyond and above, but, if you're missing Italian food this place will give you your fix. Pizza, pasta, all the stuff from the states you want, if you want. Probably a great place to take picky eaters and toddlers. You'll pay to park, that was interesting....and you'll be surrounded by stuff to buy on your way in and out, as this is located in a little tourist mall. This place is a chain, other locations are in Texas. If you're craving Italian food, and tired of Mexican, go check it out. I had a delicious whole grilled fish and a very good margarita. The wood fired pizza breads were super yummy...service was good and very attentive, despite being crowded and busy. Prices were reasonable and atmosphere upstairs was kinda fun and nice to be seated in a loft.

My Spanish is conversational don't smile, just agree. Now for the rest of the review, Massimo's has an eclectic menu, and an exciting specials menu. The bread sticks they give you, well there adequate. But, this area is a humid as a witches broom. Soooooooo........... I ordered from the special of grilled Pulpo or filled octopus. It was outstanding, if Massimo's didn't give me a vodka and WATER, when I ordered just vodka chilled, I'd be raving about this place. Alas, I'm angry at getting ripped of. The food is outstanding, the service is good, the bartender should be lynched.

Now more "dressed up", the service attentive and let's just say a big improvement in atmosphere and otherwise. A substantial menu with homemade pasta the focal point. We opted to start with bruschetta which was among the best we have had. The crostini were just right, not burnt to crispy hardness. Sandra had a filet which was tender--in itself a major accomplishment in these parts. She liked the funghi (mushroom) sauce. I can't comment because sauce on steak just isn't my favorite anywhere. I had the octopus which was chargrilled, which I enjoyed. The surprise was the wine list: few options basically one of each type. That said, the Italian Chianti was outstanding and that made all the difference when the selection is limited. We could not have eaten dessert however they provided us a tiramisu for home which when we had it was amazing. Service was excellent and once again a dinner that exceeded our expectations. Never did try the homemade pastas which looked delightful so that is our excuse to go back once again. But the wine choice is already done.

A laid back wood fired pizza spot with a super cool, relaxed ambience and the friendliest energy. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and honestly I've never had anything like it. It's insanely good. Pair it with their habanero sauce and jalapeños and it is literally fire. Perfectly cooked, bold flavor, unforgettable. We also ordered the Caprese with apples, almonds, and beets and wow. Such a fresh and different take on a salad. Every ingredient tasted so clean and vibrant. My tummy was genuinely happy after this meal, which says a lot. It's not far from where we're staying near Azulik, which made it even better. The vibe is effortless, chill, and welcoming. Bonus points for the two local cats, who are absolutely adorable and add so much charm to the place. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and the menu has so many choices that there is truly something for everyone. If pizza is your love language and you're anywhere near Tulum, Boccanera is a must visit.

We put our name on a list, but no phone number was given so really it's a wait for a table or come back type of situation. We ended up leaving and coming back 40 mins later and were sat quickly outside. The pizzas are OUTSTANDING! I think the reviews all say that and it's the truth. The crust is Neapolitan style thinner crust but the flavor is just spot on! The toppings and sauce are well balanced. The roasted chicken was a great addition to the vegetarian. If they made cheese sticks with a marinara sauce with that crust it would be a HUGE seller! The green salad was pretty standard and not much that was memorable or forgettable, just good and as expected. Unfortunately, the bruschetta was a huge let down -- we literally received halved cherry tomatoes on a piece of bread. They served it with olive oil to drizzle, but that did not even come close to what we expected. There are a few cats that roam the outside patio, but they don't bother you much. The staff was welcoming and we had good conversation with the server even for it being 20 mins before they closed.
