Loved this place so much! the manager, sylvia was one of the kindest me and my boyfriend met this entire trip. She offered us even the place to stay and hang out while we wait for our taxi after our meal. Prices are very reasonable and the food was amazing. Only miss for me would just be how the pasta we got was a little too creamy and heavy for our liking but it was still exceptionally delicious. Vibes here can be for a dinner date, casual hangout with the family, or a place to be catching up with a friend. Will defintely be back this place is so cute. read more

In Playa Del Carmen you'll find Coco's Cabanas, a mini resort of sorts that also offers diners to come in without staying there overnight. Chas found this spot while vacationing here and loved the area so much that he rented an apartment nearby and flys down often from New Orleans to stay there. We started with some Mezcalina's and fresh house fried tortillas with salsa's. The chipotle salsa and the avocado with cilantro were a nice change of pace from your normal salsa verde y rojo. The chips were clearly freshly fried and tasted great even without the salsa's. Our appetizers were a baked Camembert with fruit and tortillas, a sopa azteca, and fresh tuna tostadas. The Camembert was quite good as was the soup, but these tuna tostadas were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. Everything on them worked so well together and you could add a splash of soy sauce and it was even better! I'd order these as my meal at 90% of the spots in the world and leave happy! Our entrees were a grilled pichana as well as a lobster pizza from the wood fired oven. I love cooking pichana and don't see it often on menus when I go out so that was a nice treat. The temp was perfect for what we asked for and it was seasoned well. The potatoes that came with it had excellent flavor as well. I could take or leave the corn haha When Chas told me he was eating pizza in Mexico with lobster on it I said "dude, what are you doing with your life?" He said just wait til you try it. He ... was right. The lobster was delicious and buttery, the sauce had great flavor, and the cheese (which was not mozzarella) worked surprisingly well. I will say that I normally like my pizza crispy and this was missing that element...but the flavor more than made up for it. Add on to all of this the fact that you're surrounded by a beautiful pool, swings over the sand, a nice bar, and the owners dog is always nearby to say hi to haha. One of the easiest ones yet. This space is so incredible and just what we needed after coming from a resort. Very quiet with comfortable bungalows and the food and drinks are off the hook! Great place to eat! Especially if you're looking for bigger and tastier options than what you might find at a resort. Came in with my partner and we ordered a few items on the menu (chicken fajitas, all-meat pizza, margherita pizza, a mango & rum drink specialty with some liquid tangy spices). We definitely could not finish it, but we had leftovers for the night and the next day! The pizzas were pretty big, had fluffy bread and a good amount of marinara sauce; the chicken in the fajita plate was seasoned pretty well as well as the the rice so I would go ahead and bet that their other pizzas are probably as good. FYI - It was hard to find/get to. Since we were staying at the Fives, we had to walk through the beach and pass a couple of other resorts, then make a left on this empty path, and since we did not see a clear way to get to the restaurant (we were on the other side of the fence), we had to climb a broken fence a la parkour parkour. Imagine carrying back boxes of leftover pizza on a hot day, climbing over a broken fence that was not steady in place, and then walking through the sandy beach to get back to the resort. Just, be ready to get sandy and tired on the way there. Definitely worth it though since it was the best meal we had while on vacation. On a random note, the decoration is a little weird and featured in the middle of the restaurant is a tiny pool...so yeah....Also, be aware that you might get bitten by mosquitos a few times so if you have your bug spray make sure to apply it everywhere, but you will be in the shade so at least you won't have to worry about roasting while you eat. read more

Standouts are: the Aztec soup, ahi tuna, tostadas, shrimp in chipotle sauce, baked camembert, chile poblano, and the Braised Beef Roulade. Drinks are also good. I stayed in Playa del Carmen at a different hotel down the beach for a week and had dinner at Coco's a few times. If you're coming from the beach you will need to walk past rundown building with dogs in the area, but it is worth the adventure! The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is amazing. In the two weeks my partner and I have been in Playa we have eaten here 8 times, yes it's that good.
