Location: down a dark alley which opened to a mini courtyard area. Totally hidden gem. Service: Attentive. Food: simply delicious. Presentation was awesome . Each bite bursting with complimenting flavors. your taste buds will love you. We ordered the typical 3 course all dishes were unique. Added the 4th course Dolce eclair. Great way to please your sweet tooth. You need to dine here yourself to enjoy the experience. Don't let the location and exterior sway you. Have a seat and enjoy!

What a great place! A friend of ours had recommended them. And it is a bit difficult to find. You go down a small walkway which appears to dead-end. Don't give up! The path continues, and in a short way opens up near the Grand Canal. And there it is, Taverna al Remer, with a great set of tables overlooking the canal. Great venue! We ordered the pistachio-crusted lamb and a Ziti pasta dish. Both were good, but frankly, the lamb was exceptional (see photo). I've never had lamb taste that good: lamb dipped in a sauce made of honey and crumbled pistachios, cooked just the right amount. Great recommendation from our friend. And now I recommend it to you. Don't leave Venice without stopping by for a bite!

The service and ambiance is for lovers who want to enjoy a lovely dinner near the Rialto Bridge district. They had a pianist playing some beautiful music so if you plan on proposing to your love, I'd recommend this quaint restaurant off the very beaten path.

The appetizer course was amazing. Beautiful and delicious. Mains a little more usual. The waiter while friendly did show his disdain for some of my choices. However I would certainly recommend based on the food.

We read about this place in a travel blog and it was worth the effort to find it! You really need to use a map or gps to weave your way to this place, don't let the skinny dark alley ways that lead to it deter you, it will be worth it! The indoor decor is spectacular and the outdoor seating looks over the grand canal, we sat outside. Highly recommend reservations if you want outdoor seating, we lucked out and they were able to fit us in. The food selection is almost all authentic Venetian. We had a sliced beef on greens and a pasta with duck ragout. Both were excellent and highly recommend. The service was perfect, attentive enough and friendly, but allowed us to pace our evening. Highly recommend you find this place when in Venice!

Venice fresh fish platter, French fries (yes, that's not a typo) and curry prawns

The service was good and the location was great. But the food was below average. The fish looked like it was straight from a jar or frozen. The seafood was incredibly tiny. We ordered the fresh fish Venice style, the prawns, and roasted potatoes. The portion sizes were tiny and considerably overpriced (even if they had some taste to them, which they did not). We were told that they didn't have roasted potatoes and so they substituted fried potatoes. These were fast-food style French fries and didn't even belong in the restaurant in our opinion. There are hundreds of restaurants in Venice. I wouldn't waste money here again. Come and take a few sunset photos on their waterfront but skip the overpriced food.

A very nice, more upscale place. It may be a little difficult to find but continue on- the alley opens up to the Grand Canal and it is a gorgeous spot! We did not have reservations (which we now know are needed), but the host was very gracious and able to accommodate us. In fact, the entire staff was great and even let us look at the wine cellar after dinner. For an appetizer, we shared a grilled octopus dish. The octopus was tender and delicious. There were also the most amazing blistered cherry tomatoes on the plate. For entrees, my husband had the beef cheek and loved it! I had a salmon dish that was just good. I also had a side salad that was very visually appealing and full of vegetables. We opted out of dessert- deciding to find some gelato on the way home. I chose 4 stars instead of 5 for my review due to the price- we paid 134 Euros. I just think you can get a similar meal in Venice for half the that. However, the ambiance was nice, service very friendly and food good.

We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host and are SO grateful we were! It's a hidden gem - literally. Tucked in a nook, the outside is very unassuming, but inside is a beautiful, romantic, candlelit space that transforms you to the 1300s. Our one regret was not getting there later to enjoy live music! We got mixed seafood, which was definitely the way to go. It was SO good! Our server recommended delicious wine and we took it outside to the pier and enjoyed the sunset. All in all- a wonderful spot!!

This is where the restaurant is located. The pin on the Yelp map is incorrect. If searching in Google Maps, type in the restaurant name.

Like others have said, the happy hour apertivo buffet is not gourmet but the food is pretty good. It's even better since €5 is unlimited food, a drink, and a great view. When we got there, it was a bit chilly so we stayed inside and ate. Everyone got up for at least two rounds, and the carbs were definitely filling. The music is suppose to be jazz/blues, but perhaps a Thursday night is an off night cause we were listening to some country music the entire time. It was mild and pleasant, and it was interesting to hear everyone around us talking in their own languages. The website said happy hour is 5pm-8pm, but the paper sign outside said 5:30pm to 8:30pm. We arrived at 5:30pm so we didn't question it, but FYI in case people arrive earlier. It wasn't too crowded on a Thursday night, and we left around 7pm without it being packed. I wish I understood the bathroom situation. It looked like they had a regular Western toilet, but there wasn't a seat. This was for both bathroom stalls, so it wasn't like I accidentally went into the mens room. Is that what squat toilets look like in Italy?

    Aperitivo buffet with a spritz!
    Darian Y.

Surprised more Yelpers haven't found their way here! I found Taverna while looking for "aperitivos" in Venice, and discovered their happy hour deal! (Note: this review is solely based upon my aperitivo experience here) So 5 euros gets you a happy hour drink and their aperitivo buffet (don't eat too much - it's technically a "pre-meal meal"?). What a great offer! There's a cocktail menu as well if the happy hour drinks aren't for you. We ordered spritzes and dined on the buffet offerings - food was pretty good despite the limited selection set aside for aperitivo and was refilled regularly. Would definitely recommend this place to travelers! Also, toilets are kind of unisexual with 2 private stalls? So expect a line during crowded hours. The place is also a tad hidden, so look it up online before making your way there if possible. I believe they also have live music during dinner time as well.

Finding a cheap in dinner in Venice isn't easy. So finding a cool old rustic tavern that gives you dinner for 2 for €10 including a spritz is a true bargain. But firstly it is nearly impossible to find it especially when Google maps does not do a good job at locating it. This picturesque vaulted cavern bistro had one of the most homely atmosphere we experienced in Venice with it's low lighting, fireplace, grand piano next to it and rustic solid wood tables. So their dinner prices aren't always but comes in a form of a buffet, usually in the form cicheti (small Italian dishes). It's part of their happy hour that starts everyday at 17:30 - 19:30 and cost €5 per person including a drink. Come here any other time and food is quite pricey. Food is laid out at the front, opposite a bar on a small table. Disposable plates and cutlery are available too. And this our dinner from the buffet section. Pasta, with chopped olives and peas in a simple tomato sauce. This was probably the most comforting and filling dish of the night. Don't expect gourmet here as it was just a simple dish that was assembled quickly. But the light zesty tomato flavour, salted by the olives and the al dente pasta made the dish quite refreshing and light. I had two bowls of this. White wine risotto This dish really wasn't for me as the essence of alcohol was too strong. Of course I did not know it was a white wine risotto as there was no label. The consistency was very thick and dense although the rice was cooked to al dente. It was quite creamy but the taste of the wine overpowered my tastebuds to know what it was that made it creamy. Bruschettas These were light yet crispy topped with various of lovely toppings ranging from tuna fish, creamed sweetcorn to chopped tomatoes and cream cheese. My favourite had to be the chopped tomatoes finished off with a drizzle of olive oil. Among all the creamy ones this one became refreshing and a nice zesty contrast in flavour. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy and had good umami too. So Taverna Al Remer was definitely more a cheap and quick filling option than for something really tasty. Then again you are experiencing a very authentic style of Venetian eating, in the form of cichetti (small snacks or dishes served in an informal bar) which is usually eaten with a drink or two to socialise. And this I achieved with the rustic calming atmosphere, talking with other tourists opposite us and just winding down over our spritz. Not bad for €5 per person.

This place is amazing! A must eat for your trip to Venice. Our tour leader recommended it. It's off the beaten path from the touristy restaurants with pictures on the menu. The ambiance is great, service excellent, food yummy. Go!

So, what happened here you might ask? We walked by this restaurant a day before our experience. A lively place selling tasty-looking seafood. Checked the ratings, looked all fine. So we decided to come back the next day to get some nice early dinner. We wanted to sit inside actually, but were told to get a table outside. Looked like rain soon - which luckily didn't arrive. Our waiter seemed rushed and not really in a good mood from the start. Got handed the menu. But there's a nice counter inside with all kinds of nice fish and seafood. That's actually what we came for. We asked the waiter on how to order that, but were told "no need to rush" without further explanation and left. So my wife went inside to have a look, since we didn't find that on the menu card we've got. She ordered a nice plate of mixed seafood inside. Which somewhat angered our waiter. I was still reading the menu for some more dishes to order. Waiter took it out of my hand, telling me "you don't need that anymore, you already ordered". Yeah, some. But we wanted more. But we made a decision that moment to leave it and to stop ordering more. Really weren't in the mood for food anymore. Shortly after he arrived with the mixed seafood. And that was actually very tasty. Fantastic even. Had two glasses of white wine with if, tasty as well, but not cheap. After less than half an hour we decided to pay and leave. Even great, we didn't enjoy it much anymore. Asked for the bill, our waiter arrived with it shortly after. Then the reason for the one-star review came (actually reason enough at that point already). My wife merely asked if she could pay with a credit card. "Be quiet!" was the answer. Yes! Be Quiet...to my wife! These exact words. Not because of a language barrier (his english was more than fine), not because of a misunderstanding. Plain and simple rudeness. I hope his mother is proud of him. How dare you talk to a woman, to a paying guest like that. If my wife wouldn't have signaled me to stay calm, I would have caused a very big scene at that moment. But we were on vacation. We won't a moment like this kill our mood for the rest of the trip. But at that moment I was cooking inside. A verbal attack like this I've never encountered. I've read some more reviews later. It seems not the first time that service here is out of line. It's a shame. The food is wonderful. Not cheap though, paid almost 50 Euros! Coperta is a normal thing, but here a bit higher than elsewhere. And this is the first time I've thought that the coperta was not deserved. Almost took it off the bill, but we didn't want to cause a bigger fight. Not sure what was/is wrong with this certain waiter. A dislike to tourists? A bad day? But: there's no reason to treat us like this. THE worst service experience we've ever had. And that means something. If you read up on my reviews here on Yelp and other platforms you'll see that bad reviews like this rarely happen. Nothing's gonna happen to Mr. Friendly anyway job-wise. But I wish at least he would be told by his boss. Then again, one day he'll meet guests that won't hold back if he acts like this again. And I find comfort in that.

Best cicchetti hands down. Each one is enough for two people. Delicious. The seafood sampler is…read moreamazing.

I started heading back to my Airbnb when I noticed this warm-looking bar where an employee was smoking near the door. I read the words "jazz club." I heard music and went inside, where I spent an hour listening to Billie Holiday and no one else sing the blues and then some. Novecento has at least 3 rooms; I only saw the first. It's a nice old-seeming bar. The employees speak some but not much English. The bar's booze selection is somewhat limited; I recommend going with wine if you aren't a whiskey person. I ordered a margherita pizza. It was fine, but too overcooked to be of my liking. The sauce was yummy, the cheese was good, but the crust only so-so from what I could tell. Prices weren't bad. This big band soul would certainly return to Novecento. An American bar was perhaps the perfect last stop on my trip to Italy.

However, the room was hot and humid overnight, and the air conditioning would not turn on. We had to open a window to cool down, which resulted in an influx of mosquitos biting us, because there was no mosquito screen on the windows. In addition, the bed was advertised as a "superior double" but was actually two single beds that had been pushed together. The two beds were not attached to each other in any way, so kept slipping apart. After an uncomfortable and mostly sleepless night, we decided to move to a different hotel. We wrote to the hotel to advise of the problems and request a refund, given the room was not as advertised. The hotel's response was dismissive from the outset. They first claimed that air conditioning is "seasonal" and they are not allowed to turn it on until June 1. When we advised that we could not find any evidence of a law restricting air conditioning, and that the hotel we moved to provided it, they admitted they choose not to use it. The hotel staff said "we have to coexist with" the mosquitoes, and claimed to have mosquito repellent machines in the rooms. The dozens of bites we received show that the machines were either not operating or ineffective. Regarding the bed, the staff claimed that it is "normal" to push two beds together to create a double bed. The above information is not on the hotel's website and was not provided when we booked. Had we known that air conditioning would not be available, and the only option would be to open the window and get bitten by mosquitos, we would not have booked this hotel.
