For the actual meal we started with a beautiful crudite plate with an assortment of dips, the best caviar I've ever tasted, our various entrees (I ordered the kale salad) and then some housemade madeline's with a duo of not-too-sweet dipping sauces. I thought everything tasted very good, but both of my sisters were absolutely RAVING and using phrases like "flavor bomb" throughout all courses. If I could give half stars, I'd land at a 4.5 because I wasn't completely satisfied at the end of my meal, but I'll put some of that down to my ordering. I probably should have selected the butter-poached salmon one of my sister's ordered for her main, as it was FANTASTIC. Overall, I have to round up to five stars as four doesn't seem appropriate for Grange Hall given the care you can tell is taken by staff, particularly the chef. One member of our party ordered the tarte, and he requested she make another selection because he did not like how it turned out. I can appreciate any place maintaining such a standard! We went out there to look at veils and found that the bridesmaid dresses we wanted were about $30 cheaper than we found in Addison so we decided to go with Emma's. WORST MISTAKE EVER!!! Of 5 of the dresses ordered all except for 1 were anywhere from 4-8 dress sizes larger than what they should have been AND they came in in the wrong color. After bringing it to the shop owner's attention we were told that they had to be ordered that large because "the lining is much tighter throughout" and "there was no way we ordered a different color". We took our dresses because they were in and we had all either paid in full at the time it was ordered or paid half. After everything our alterations ended up costing more than what we paid for the dresses. You would think that was bad enough, but no. Once we were told that the veil was ready I authorized payment (including extra for shipping) and gave them a shipping address. A week later I called to check status of my shipment as I was concerned that I had yet to receive it and I came to find out that "the owner thought one of the assistants shipped it and vise versa". The only thing they did to correct it was to overnight it to me "at no extra charge". Save yourself the hassle and pay the few extra bucks and go where you've had or know someone who's had a great experience!!!

They were honestly the only store that put me at ease in ordering a dress that I could not physically try on. I mainly worked with Melissa, but the owner is also really sweet and they did everything they could to help me out! Mary is the alteration's lady they used and she did a great job on my gown. She is really sweet and listened to what I wanted, my dress came out perfect thanks to her! They're atmosphere is pretty laid back. They don't require appointments and they even made accommodations for me to come in when the store was technically closed. I really enjoyed my experience with them and if they had the color for the bridesmaids dresses I was looking for I definitely would have ordered through them!

In what I consider a very interesting addition, Paper Leaves also carries a variety of plants. Waxahachie is already well known for its over 200 historic structures in five historic districts. Paper Leaves lies on Water Street to the north of West End Historic District, the largest district with homes built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I love that Paper Leaves is SO Waxahachie in that respect! You step back in time here in high ceilinged book filled rooms with comfy, vintage and antique furniture, and just make yourself at home in such a special place. We entered from the back. The driveway and backyard look newly renovated and there are several parking spaces. The handicapped access to the business is in the rear and is smooth with a concrete ramp. The recent rain and wind has buffeted their lovely backyard, but there are two big areas for outdoor reading. They are shady with lots of chairs and look big enough for book clubs to meet. At the back, there is a small sunroom with lovely stained glass and three high tables and chairs set up for conversation or reading. The windows are enormous in this home with sun streaming in on velvet and brocade and velveteen sofas and chairs. Every room is a treat. A short stack of $1 Books and a (previous) dining room of used books were followed by what had been a parlor with a lovely fireplace and even more books. The foyer has the register and a very vertical staircase. The remaining downstairs room is an inspired Kids Books section with mysterious footprints on the floor and a bathroom! Paper Leaves has been altered to accommodate at least two (that I saw) spacious modern bathrooms with baby changing areas. The terrific front porch, the kind you always wanted, has a big ole swing and seating. There's used books and small exotic plants for sale out front. I saw a used copy of The Goldfinch for $7. The stairs are not steep. I mean, I'm 71 and had a hip replacement not all that long ago and I could make it up and down. Upstairs there's a very sunny reading room and all kinds of interesting paraphernalia on the floor and the walls of the landing. Then there's this astonishing windowed in sunroom. It's a lovely room with plants that have prices but no names. Just "Foliage." Yes, they can look them up. But, I knew a number of them anyway. Bonsai, many cacti and succulents, philodendron. Just gorgeous. All sizes. Hanging Baskets. Climbers. Teeny tiny little bitty plants in pots. Wonderful. I loved Paper Leaves. A very soothing, calming, good vibes place. But books and plants are my jam, so ... I can hardly wait to come back.
