Licensed taxis are painted white, have "taxi" lights on the roof, and have Comune di Roma decals (with the taxi's license number) on the doors. Some taxis are small, while others are midsized sedans, station wagons, or minivans. If you're traveling with bulky luggage and you phone for a taxi, be sure to explain that you need a cab with room for your bags. We never felt ripped off, and we took about 5 rides while in the city. Each and every driver was courteous and friendly. Some advice to follow would be: * Take only official Taxis with the number 3570 on them * If you call a cab, you pay from the time they get the call - so expect the meter to have several Euros on it when it arrives * Hailing a cab is not commonplace, go to taxi stands instead. (If you try to hail a cab and a taxi stand is within sight, the driver will not stop.) * Carry small change to pay for or charge your fare * DO NOT take a ride with a driver who approaches you * Make sure the meter is running, if he says it is broken, get out * Know your exact address in Italian - write it down and hand it to the driver - make sure you give specifics; don't just say "Vatican" if you want to go to the Vatican Museum * Have an idea about the fares, there are set prices from 7 am to 10 pm; but, on Sundays, nights and holidays, the fares go higher, there can be a luggage charge as well * If you are leaving from the Termini Train Station there is a surcharge plus a per bag charge * Sometimes, the route may not seem to be the most direct; but, there are a lot of one-way streets in Rome. The driver will try to take you the most direct route. * Italians do not tip taxi drivers, round up the fare if you like or give an extra 1 or 2 € if they have been especially helpful * Fares from the airports into Rome are set and clearly written on the side of the cab * Every taxi driver has a taxi license number on the back of the cab as well as inside the back door. The little plaque includes their name * Always get a receipt.

In Roma, as far as I know, Uber or shared rides no longer exist. However, the old reliable Taxi system can be found everywhere. I decided to write a review on my experience with the White Taxi Cab. When I'm overseas, I'm a very frugal person, so I usually ride trains, trolleys, or some sort of underground system to get me from point A to point B. However, on a recent trip to Roma, Italy I had no choice but to shell out my Euros because my time was so limited. My whirlwind trip to Roma and the Vatican was simply amazing, but much credit goes to the fantastic transportation in Rome. I did catch the Leonardo Express from Fiumicino Airport to the heart of Roma (which I highly recommend), but once in Roma it was either bus or if pressed for time the cab. I need to emphasize only the White Metered City Taxi Cab! My B&B concierge and friend, Paola, reminded me how important it is to catch the "white" taxis only! This has nothing to do with race mind you lol. Ok, bad jokes aside lol... the "white" colored cars with "taxi" sign are the official Taxi Cabs of the city of Rome. You can find Taxi stands all across Roma and it's the safest place to catch a Taxi too. Of course calling a Taxi from your hotel or B&B is just as safe. Just note flagging down Taxis are a rarity. For me, I caught a "white" Taxi Cab just outside a popular gelato shop, and later at a Taxi stand in Vatican City to the main airport. The nice thing about catching a Taxi from Roma to Fiumicino Airport is that it's a city flat rate of 48€ euros (about $53 USD). So you know exactly what you're paying. It also includes up to four passengers with luggage - as long as it fits! Tips are not required or expected. Yet, frugal Eric has a generous heart and always tips anyway. Again, it's not expected. I had a positive experience on my rides. The Italian male driver had little words but was polite and took me to my B&B quickly and efficiently. If I recall it was not much more than 10€ euros from the Pantheon area to Vatican City. I tipped him a couple of Euros. Again not expected. In general it's about 10€ euros more or less anywhere in Roma. Just make sure you're in the "white" Taxi Cab! In the end, I highly recommend the White Metered Taxi Cabs of Rome. The drivers I encountered spoke little English but knew just enough to understand where I needed to go. The Italian lady driver that drove me to Fiumicino Airport sure drove fast in her tiny Fiat. She clearly understood me when I said "whoa whoa whoa" lol. We both laughed as I clung on for my dear life... Da quando ti conosco la mia vita è un paradiso. Ti Amo...

I am writing this review to warn other parents traveling with a child who needs a carseat so you…read moredon't have to go through the same thing we did on our trip to Rome. My husband and I traveled to Rome for business and had our 15 month old son with us. I read a lot of reviews about car services because I wanted to make sure that we had a safe transport for our son. We decided to book Fattori after some positive reviews, but our experience was so scary and terrible, I just honestly want to make sure other parents don't book this company. We landed in Rome and were greeted by our driver, who escorted us to the vehicle. I do want to mention, all of our drivers were great. This review is about the owner and the carseats provided to us. After several back and forth emails, we were ensured that we would have a carseat in the van that was age and weight appropriate for our son and that was rear facing. When we got to the car, we were presented with two options. The first was a booster-seat looking seat that didn't have any strap for the baby (you were supposed to use the main seat strap as the baby strap??). Obviously not appropriate for our baby as it could choke him or he would just fall right out. The second was an infant seat and our child was over the height and weight limit for it. That wasn't even the worst part though. The seat was broken and had no way to attach to the vehicle. The driver's solution was to just wrap the seatbelt around the outside of the seat and buckle it in. It was not attached to the vehicle in any official way and was just basically like setting a carseat in the backseat. We were presented with no safe options for our child and I was obviously visibly upset. The driver promised he would drive "safe" which was appreciated but obviously would not help if someone hit us and my kid went flying out the windshield. Luckily, that didn't happen. We explained that we wanted the situation fixed for our pickup and that we needed a seat that would be safe for our son (attaches to the car, is appropriate for his height/weight, etc.). When we were picked up several days later, the car had the same carseat that was broken and wouldn't attach to the car. At this point, I was livid and asked to speak to the owner. The driver gave me his phone and I was greeted by a woman who was basically just screaming at me. Her only excuse for not fixing the issue was that "carseats are not legally required in Italy." Cool, we knew that but paid this company a PRIME rate to ensure that our child would be safe. She was extremely rude on the phone, I wont even get into what she said or how she treated us as customers. We told her we wouldn't be paying for the ride and she threatened to have the driver leave us in the middle of the city, stranded. After more arguing, the best she would do is give us 10 euro back. We ended up getting in the car because we had no other option. The whole experience was so stressful and just honestly unnecessary . We have driven in other countries and rented a car for the later part of this trip and have always been given safe carseats. Frankly, this company should be avoided if you're a parent so you don't have to go through what we did.
