The team, owned by Australian, Daryl 'Spinner' Howland has worked really hard marketing this rough and tumble sport here in Jacksonville. The crowds are getting larger over the years since the teams inception only a couple of years ago, and now the Axemen have quite a following. Myself included! I love this sport! The matches are truly exciting and if you have never watched this kind of sport, the PA announcer usually does a quick synopsis for the crowd on plays and scoring. Daryl, a marketing genius in my opinion, has enlisted 13 gorgeous cheerleaders that have been touted the Jacksonville AxeMaidens. The Maidens make various social appearances similarly to the Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleading team, 'The Roar'. Very creative indeed! The website has a lot of information on the sport along with player bios and online ticket ordering. If you have never watched a League Rugby match, this could be an extremely fun, new experience on a Saturday afternoon. With $1.00 beers and a $10.00 ticket price you certainly can't go wrong!

The Baseball Grounds was not a perfect location for soccer, but the seating was comfortable, it was in the Stadium District, and with Intuition Aleworks & Manifest Distilling all within a block - going to a game was looking to be a great night out! Their new location is Hodges Stadium at UNF. An ok place to watch collegiate soccer - very nice even pitch. But being a little on the older side, I need a seatback if I'm going to be sitting in the stands for a couple hours! The seats are also not numbered. So even though I bought tickets with seat numbers, the seats were no where to be found and many in the crowd just sat where they wanted to. The dining options at the Town Center did lessen the pain somewhat. For some reason, whoever is running the team at this point, decided that the game needed cheerleaders (trust me - it may need something, but not cheerleaders). I'm not sure how much time was spent selecting the group, but they probably spent about the same time training them - quality was less than desirable. The team - I only recognized 2 names from the previous season. The team performed modestly at best. I'm sure the location will work out well for the many soccer families that live in proximity to UNF

My doubts of using a baseball field for a soccer pitch were addressed by a pretty nice set up, and after a full season I figured out the optimal seats. The nautical theme was executed well. Not too cheesy. I really want to play in the half-time battles. The affordability of this team and it's games is a real bonus and I am proud to support them as a season ticket member. Go Armada!

Cruise through neighborhoods where residents lobby to have you run down their street, and little kids love to hi-five or hand you a Dixie cup of water. Pass the natural snack station which is an orange tree dropping its fruit along the path. Enjoy the occasional "redneck hot tub" pickup bed w/ water-filled tarp. Hear your name yelled since first names are prominently on your bib. Smile at numerous bosom-themed signs to support the cause "I stare because I care", "You're the breast around". Plenty of first-timer options to tackle a race, relay, or the big one (Marathon). Celebrate the survivors finishing cancer and the course. Hear the stories of hope and determination. New course moves to Neptune and Atlantic Beach, with Ponte Vedra for the marathoners, is a festive feel. You'll come back again to Finish Cancer.

26.2 with Donna is an amazing course that emotions just "run" high...and for a great reason!…read moreThis race first started back in February of 2008 in support of raising funds to find a cure for Breast Cancer. It has grown to become one of the top races in NEFL and have expanded to add many more activities for the desired person. From 5k, 10k, relay, 1/2 marathon, to a full....and you can even run a series called the "Booby Trap". This run USED to start and finish at the Mayo, but now it starts at the TPC and ends at Mayo...either way...you have a bridge at the end. The whole weekend is exciting, from the moment you pick up your race packet until you cross that finish line. There are more than enough volunteers that are friendly, always willing to help. If you are new to this expo thing...ask anyone! They will help guide you in the right direction. There are normally plenty of stands/kiosks to buy everything under the sun related to running or walking. This year is seemed a little scaled back...and more focused on Mayo things. One of my favorite things about this race is the spectators. Jacksonville has the best support out and along the route....they keep you pepped up and ready to finish. They have a perfect amount of support along the road so if you find yourself in a bind...see someone on the side. There are tables of water, Gatorade, gu's, cold sponges, fruit, candy, First Aid tents all along the course. Not to mention all the houses that have; beer, donuts, oranges, popsicles, bacon, bananas, and shots....yes...this really happens! I am considered a "streaker"; which means I have run the Donna every year since it started, and this race grows and grows each year. I love what this race means, but I love seeing the faces of the cheering people as we run right by them ready to find a cure.....

Yelp…read moreelite provided tickets to the seltzer fest which was BOMB!! 904 happy hour gave me tickets for the keg hunt, which was pretty cool, but a total cluster. This "park" is more like an empty plot of land between all these other businesses. The festival had some tents and chairs set up but I don't think those actually stay. There is no real seating or playground or anything really lol. Not sure why they call it a park. To be fair- I've only been twice. The events were very fun! There are also some really cool spots close by that we had never even heard of. Main and six was pretty legit. Crispy's is cute. Really wishing we would have planned accordingly to spend a little more time checking Out the local establishments. Definitely an area I will visit again in the future! This "park" is cool for like a small event but don't go here thinking it's a real park.

Practically speaking, the Korn Ferry Tour and lesser tours are great ways for still really, really good golfers to earn a living playing a sport they're good at. It also allows more golf courses around the country, plus the Bahamas and Central and South America, to host "PGA Tour" events (the Korn Ferry Tour is the top developmental tour for the PGA Tour). While hardly any of golf's superstars have played on the Korn Ferry Tour, there are still several players who've grinded their way through and ended up making a name/career for themselves on the PGA Tour. They include 1996 British Open champion and 2006 Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman, 2009 British Open champion Stewart Cink, Chad Campbell (who has finished in the top 5 in three different majors), 2007 Masters and 2015 British Open champion Zach Johnson, and 2016 PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker. There are also a bunch of relatively lesser-known players who've had success on the Korn Ferry Tour and have won tournaments on the PGA Tour. Recent examples include Sungjae Im (2020 Honda Classic champion), Wesley Bryan (2017 RBC Heritage champion), and Chez Reavie (winner of the 2008 RBC Canadian Open and 2019 Travelers Championship). In 2017 and 2018, the Korn Ferry Tour, then known as the Web.com Tour, made sports headlines when Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors played in the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae in the Bay Area (Hayward, California). Both years, he got in on sponsor exemptions, causing a little controversy, and both years, he missed the cut. Each registered participant received an official race shirt, one drink ticket (can be redeemed for beer, soda or water after the race), a custom finisher medal and the opportunity to cross a finish line on TIAA Bank Field! For non-season ticket holders, registration also includes a ticket to a Jaguars home game of your choice, but in the nose bleed sections. Yup! You will be right there with the birds! Ha! We selected the Thursday night game against the Titans in which the Jags won 20-7. Home game choices for 2019: 09/19 - Titans (Thursday night) at 8:20pm 10/27 - Jets at 1pm 12/01 - Bucs at 1pm 12/08 - Chargers at 4:05pm 12/29 - Colts at 1pm Getting the tickets was a hassle. Tickets were loaded in my Jags app two days before the game and they weren't loaded correctly (no barcodes). It took several phone calls and emails before the issue was corrected.

I hadn't been in there yet & it was great because the surface was cushiony and it was 100 yards in an air conditioned space. Downside - there was still about a mile to go in the heat & the course layout was rather confusing (and seemed to never end). We also got to run across the TIAA Bank Field sidelines. It's a great surface and is in game-ready condition. Downside - I thought we'd already crossed the 5k mark as we entered the stadium (we'd gone the distance according to GPS), so I stopped running about a hundred yards too soon. The stadium has the worlds largest Jumbotron that displayed the name of the race. Downside - the runners were supposed to be shown on the Jumbotron as we entered the stadium - didn't happen. The race ended and we were allowed to go to the Bud Light Party Zone for after-race refreshments. Downside - if you didn't have an ID on you, you could only enjoy family-friendly beverages. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to doing it again in the future - but I'll bring my ID next time!

This is a great addition to the beaches and one I happened on quite by accident. I had just moved back to the beach and was going to take an old shortcut that only us natives braved when low and behold I was in a round about looking at baseball fields and stretches of green! How cool, and how aggravating now I had to turn around and go the long way, but not before I checked it out. Wingate is sixteen acres of open land that includes two adult softball fields, two football fields, two T-Ball fields, two little major league fields, and one girls' softball field. That's a lot of fields and they all get used. Chances are if you are on a team, you have played here or at least sat in the bleachers and watched. There is also Paws Park which is a place where dogs roam free. Well inside the fence that is! There are separate areas for large and small dogs that have city provided shade and water. I am glad we have something of this size at the beach. We needed it for a long time.
