This classic American diner in the tiny town of Pima, Arizona, is absolutely priceless. It's a wonderful slice of Americana way west of the Mississippi River! Operating since 1959 but under the same family since 1968, the name Taylor Freeze might imply some fabulous sugary treats for dessert. And yes, their numerous ice cream options are amazing. But this little joint goes way beyond that with delicious foods served by courteous, hard-working young ladies. Coming into town on Highway 70 from the west, you'll see sign after sign along the roadside touting their best features. Could they live up to all this hype? That's an emphatic yes!! The french fries are among the best I've ever tasted, just the thinnest outer layer being impossibly crisp while soft and tender on the inside. How do they do it?! The burgers aren't bad. But the root beer is the creamiest I've ever tasted and the soft serve ice cream is certainly the best in the United States! This place is a throwback to the kind of quality you used to get with "fast food." The burgers are incredible and the enchilada fries are always a hit. Every time I come down from Phoenix, I will starve my way past every crappy modern day fast food joint till I get to this little gem. I love that it's not a chain. The prices are affordable and comparable to McDonald's, but the quality is by far a step above. It may take a few minutes longer to get your food than the slop assembly line at other fast food places that fart out 80 half-assed burgers per minute, but that's to be expected. They are always super busy but they take orders with a smile and a 20 minute wait isn't so bad for really fresh food ! What a cute place! Located just off a long stretch of road in Pima, AZ we stopped in for a quick ice cream fix. We stopped in at lunch so the place was hopping. Family owned since 1968 this oasis offers some good home cooked fast food and ice cream. The soft serve ice cream was excellent! Very good quality and you could tell that there wasn't air in the product which makes a few cents more worthwhile for the rich creaminess of the results! Our server was super sweet and brand new to her job, really trying her best to do a great job which she did. They were very efficient getting drive-through and walk in orders out in record time. The restaurant is exceptionally clean and has really cute decor. They've made an effort to honor local men and women who are currently serving in the military. This establishment is clearly involved in the community and restaurant is a salsa trail stop! Highly recommend that you stop at this great little gem in Pima for some great food and some Americana at its best. read more

After our drive from Superior, we stopped in Pima to check out the Taylor Freeze. We knew that they should be good since they have been a family business since 1959. We did not try any of their food items, but we did try two of their 24 flavor selections of soft freeze. My wife had a mint cone and I had a blackberry cone. Both cones were tasty. First time visit was very confusing. We drove around multiple empty parked cars & a dumpster before arriving at a wall with a menu . We pulled up to the service window & placed our order of 2 Big T burgers , 2 fries & a large lemonade . One burger without onions & 1 without mustard which seemed to have confused the girl at the window & left my daughter & myself feeling a little frazzled. The girl told us after we finished ordering to pull around & wait which we did . I parked right next to the building on the other side . We watched people coming out of the restaurant with bags while we waited. We watched & waited & waited for about 45 minutes & finally I called to check on our order as I am disabled . The girl delivering our cold food told us that next time I need to return to the drive through to pick up . I mentioned before that we were first timers . The food was cold but edible but dissapointed that it's taken for granted that all customers are regulars . I think we will avoid the drive all the way out to Pima from Safford the next time we get the urge for a burger. read more

The sign by the drive thru says "We are not fast food, we are as fast as we can food" When you wait 20 minutes in line to order your food to be asked to circle around while they make your food only to be out back in line for 15-20 minutes again to only get to the drive thru window and have your fries be cold then that's what gets upsetting. If the food is ready - take it out to the customer. Don't make them wait longer than necessary, especially when their food food will be cold. Or even better, don't have a drive thru if it's not a true drive thru. The food is alright, their burgers are good. Comparable to sonic burgers. read more

This is an old Tastee-Freez that was purchased by the Taylor family back in the 1960s. That's when they changed the name. It still looks like an old shop that you'd see on Route 66. There aren't many other options in the area. Their ice cream and shakes are good, along with their other desserts. Similar to what you'd get at a Dairy Queen. They have a relatively large menu selection for such a small place, but the food was mediocre. I've been here twice and tried both the Mexican and the burgers and wasn't impressed by either. I've also tried the pickle fries twice because they are rated so high. I thought they were unique and greasy. Not a fan. Maybe it's an acquired taste. Great service! Friendly staff. Fabulous flavored soft serve ice cream. They mix in the flavors. I had espresso and it was perfect. Good consistency and smooth taste. We were on a trip heading east towards Safford and the plan was to stop in Safford at a fast food place to get lunch before heading to our destination. Miles out of town we started seeing the signs for Taylor Freeze. Every so often there'd be another sign advertising burgers, tacos, shakes, soft serve ice cream, etc. By the time we actually got to Taylor Freeze we were starving so we stopped in. There was plenty of parking, it had a dirt lot around it so lots of room no matter what type of vehicle you have. I went in to order while my husband stayed in the car with the dogs and the place was packed. You order at the counter and then it has a small dining room if you want to eat in. There were a couple of us waiting at the counter to order and a gal helping in the kitchen kept assuring us she'd be right there. It took about 10 minutes before she was able to make it up front to take our order. I didn't mind the wait since they were obviously busy and it gave me time to read the sign about their history. They did start as a Tastee Freeze and have been family owned since the sixties and when the gal came up to take our order I recognized her as the daughter of the original owners and now the current owner. My husband got the traditional double cheese burger with fries and a vanilla shake. I had trouble deciding but ended up getting a corn dog, it had been forever since I had one and it sounded good to me. While waiting for my order I asked one of the locals if there was a park near by and he was happy to assist, there happened to be a park just around the block. Our meal was delicious but next time I'd definitely like to try the tacos. This place was like stepping back in time, very nostalgic for me. As we drove through Safford I was so happy we'd opted for Taylor Freeze since none of the fast food places looked good. read more

Taylor Freeze!! I do not live in this area but I have family that does, and this is THEIR PLACE! I have had a few drinks from here and some munchies but last week I ended up having their burger and it was so so good. I was not expecting such flavor and freshness from a small town drive through restaurant/ice cream shop. 5 stars for what it is for sure! Don't expect 5 start customer service or anything obviously. But for what this place is, it's great! They make your food fresh and fast! My grandma got their tacos, they looked great, I had their bacon burger and it was super tasty, my son got their dinosaur chicken nuggets and we all enjoyed our meals very much. I also got a side of their fried potatoes treats, I can not remember the name but they were so good, their onion rings that were perfect and their fries that were great. A few things to note: Everything is pretty much ala carte. Things do not just come with a side. Sides are separate. You usually get a sauce with some of their sides, but if it does not come with your meal or side then you have to pay for your sauce. I believe Monday's you get any drink for $1 and their large's are CRAZY big, so such a great deal! So if you happen to be passing by or in the area I say give it a try! read more

We stopped here on our way home from Mt. Graham. Good local burger spot. Only 3 stars because they put onions on my wife's burger after we asked for no onions. She's a super taster and it really messed with the flavor even after she had taken them off. Also none of the employees were wearing masks, it should be the standard right now, Especially since you order at the window instead of through the speaker like every other fast food spot. A little gem in Pima Az. I love this little place and have since a young girl. If you love ice cream, great food and ice cold drinks....this is a great stop :). Wasn't amazing. The burgers are frozen patties and you can taste it. We paid $19 something for 2 Swiss mushroom burgers, 2 "large" fries and a drink.
